I highly recommend
Unagi no Nakasho Shinsaibashi Branch, a local favorite for over 90 years!
The eel is carefully deboned for a super comfortable eating experience,
and the thick, succulent eel combined with the sweet sauce creates a perfect harmony,
even appealing to Korean palates!
It's a wonderful dish for anyone, even first-time eel eaters, to enjoy delicious unagi.

Japan 〒542-0083 Osaka, Chuo Ward, Higashishinsaibashi, 1-chōme−17−15 丸清ビル ホーム 1

I arrived right at 11 AM when they opened, so I got in without any waiting.
Unagi no Nakasho has become quite famous among Korean visitors,
so there might be a wait during peak hours –
I highly recommend arriving right at opening, just like I did!

One side of the kitchen is a glass window, so while waiting for my order,
I got to watch the eel cooking –
the sight of it perfectly grilling was absolutely mouth-watering...
2. Menu

The menu is available in English and Japanese,
and you can view the Korean menu by scanning a QR code.
The main dish, of course, is unadon, offered in various portions and sets.
They also had delicious side dishes like fried eel bones and tamagoyaki (rolled omelet).
3. The Taste of Unadon?

When eating eel, I simply can't pass up a refreshing, creamy
draft beer!

Umakimaki 1,300 yen
This fluffy rolled omelet with eel tucked inside
was perfect as a light appetizer, and I could tell kids would absolutely love it too.

Hitsumabushi 4,500 yen
The Hitsumabushi arrived with perfectly portioned eel
neatly arranged over a bed of rice.
There are three delightful ways to enjoy it:
First, savor the original taste by eating the eel on its own (without sauce);
Next, try it differently by adding toppings like green onions, wasabi, and seaweed;
Finally, pour dashi broth over it to finish as ochazuke – a truly satisfying end!

The thick eel meat was beautifully infused with the sauce,
making it incredibly moist and tender, just melting in my mouth.
Its savory-sweet flavor was the perfect companion to the rice.
Adding a touch of wasabi beautifully cut through any richness,
allowing me to savor every bite even more 🥹✨.

To finish, I enjoyed a warm Ochazuke,
which offered a clean and distinct flavor experience.
It was amazing to discover so many different charms in just one bowl,
and I truly had fun exploring the diverse ways to enjoy it.

Ichino Unadon 5,600 yen
The Ichino Unadon comes with a whole eel, which means it's
a bit pricier, but the generous portion size makes it absolutely worth it.
I didn't feel like it was a splurge at all.
You get three wonderfully large pieces of eel,
so you'll feel completely satisfied even just with the unadon, no sides needed.
And of course, the flavor was superb; my travel companions enjoyed it just as much.

Just a quick note: this particular dish doesn't come with toppings like wasabi or green onions,
but it's served with pickled side dishes and a comforting warm soup.
If you need wasabi, simply ask a staff member!

Unaju 4,300 yen
Another member of our party chose the Unaju, which features half an eel.
Since the eel pieces are so thick and substantial,
even half an eel was enough to feel perfectly full and satisfied.
However, for those with a heartier appetite, especially men,
I'd recommend opting for a full eel or the Hitsumabushi for a truly fulfilling meal.

Unadon 3,400 yen
The Unadon, an unagi dish at a more approachable price point,
comes with three pieces of eel. It's not a huge portion,
making it perfect for children or anyone who prefers a lighter meal.

From a whole eel to half a serving,
with various portions and arrangements,
Unagi no Nakasho offers options to suit every preference!
The eel is served perfectly deboned, making it incredibly easy to enjoy,
and its thick, tender texture made for an absolutely delicious meal.
If you're on the hunt for a fantastic Unadon spot in Osaka,
I wholeheartedly recommend Unagi no Nakasho, Shinsaibashi branch!
