Izumo Lucua Osaka Umeda: Unagi Donburi at Lucua Mall 2026

Look no further than Izumo Lucua, a highly-rated unagi (eel) specialty restaurant nestled in the basement of the Lucua shopping mall. It's incredibly convenient, located just a 5-minute walk from the Hotel Vischio Osaka by Granvia, making it a perfect stop after checking in or before heading out for the day. With a stellar 4.7-star rating on Google, you know you're in for a treat!

The Lucua shopping complex itself is a destination, boasting two main buildings. Its basement levels are a treasure trove, featuring a supermarket, a Starbucks for your coffee fix, a LUSH store for bath and body treats, and even the trendy Shiro brand, which always seems to have a bustling crowd!

They're open from 11 AM to 10 PM daily, so you have plenty of time to fit a visit into your schedule.

Be prepared for a wait, as the line here can get quite long! We arrived around 12 PM earlier this year (2026) and still waited about 40 minutes. It's worth noting that after 3 PM, they charge a small seating fee and require a minimum of one drink order per person.

One of their enticing options, priced at ~$21, includes unagi, a fluffy egg roll, and gyudon (beef bowl).

Upon seating, the staff kindly recommended some of their more premium dishes. For me, the star attraction was definitely the egg roll! They're known for generous rice portions here, but don't worry if you can't finish it all – they'll even pack the leftovers into onigiri (rice balls) for you. My husband and I opted for half portions of rice, and I chose the 100g beef option for my dish. Good to know: reducing the rice portion doesn't change the price.

The presentation was beautiful, served in a lovely bowl.

I ordered the Unagi & Egg Roll Donburi, which was ~$16. The egg roll was absolutely incredible – so rich and flavorful! The rice was perfectly seasoned, not too salty, and had a wonderful balance. I've tried unagi donburi in Nagoya before, but I honestly think this one was the best I've ever had.

To balance the richness of the unagi, we also ordered some side dishes: a spicy pickled cucumber with mustard and a clear eel liver soup.

The spicy pickled cucumber was quite salty but had a fantastic kick, which I really enjoyed. However, for a side dish, it was a bit pricey at around ~$3. The eel liver soup was wonderfully refreshing, with a clear broth and flavorful eel liver pieces, costing about ~$2.

My husband went for the Unagi & Beef Donburi, which was about ~$13.

While I'm not usually a huge fan of unagi, I found it to be fresh, plump, and free of any fishiness. The rice was well-seasoned, and the sauce was excellent. It was definitely a good meal, and my husband absolutely loved it! There's also extra sauce on the table if you want to add more to your liking.

When paying, I used my Travel Log card and had no issues selecting between JPY or USD for the transaction. A smooth experience all around!
