After a thrilling ride on the Hep Five Ferris Wheel, we were looking for some authentic Osaka dinner we could easily take back to our accommodation for a relaxed evening.
First on our culinary quest was Yoshinozushi in Umeda, a sushi spot we'd thoroughly enjoyed on a previous visit!

This gem is tucked away in the Umeda Station shopping arcade, so it requires a bit of exploring to find.
Interestingly, Yoshinozushi offers different menus for takeout and dine-in. The takeout options were noticeably more affordable than eating inside.
I remember ordering the Omakase Nigiri set for 1,350 JPY.
Like many traditional Japanese establishments, Yoshinozushi is cash-only, so make sure you have some yen on hand!
For takeout, the various sushi sets were beautifully displayed upfront, giving us a clear idea of what to expect. Since they prepare orders fresh, it takes a little time, so we took a brief stroll around the area while we waited.
We discovered this venerable establishment has been a local favorite for nearly six decades! I knew it was an old spot, but I didn't realize it boasted such a rich history.
There were also charming signs around the shop's exterior, which I completely missed on my previous visit as I headed straight inside.
With our sushi carefully packed, we set off to find our next delicious treat: takoyaki! Takoyaki stalls often close relatively early, so we focused on finding the closest open spot.

This spot was located a short distance south of Namba Station.
While 8 pieces for 600 JPY isn't the absolute cheapest, the most important factor for us was finding a place open for takeout late in the evening.
The menu was conveniently displayed outside, so if you're planning to dine in, you can browse your options before heading inside.
A quick heads-up: takeout orders are placed outside. We initially went in, and they somewhat brusquely directed us back outside to order. It wasn't the warmest welcome, but given its proximity and high ratings, we decided to go ahead with our purchase.
Back at our accommodation, we unboxed the sushi first. It had gotten a bit jumbled on the journey from Umeda. While it was certainly tasty, it didn't quite capture the magic of dining in at the restaurant. Still, it was a far cry from grocery store sushi!
And then came the moment of truth: the takoyaki! Despite the initial unpleasantness at the shop, the flavor was so good it almost made us forget about it. It was classic, deliciously authentic Osaka-style takoyaki – so good you could easily rationalize their busy demeanor. If you're craving takoyaki late at night in Osaka, this spot is definitely worth a visit.
Overall Verdict
For Yoshinozushi, we highly recommend dining in to fully soak in the atmosphere of this venerable establishment and truly savor the flavors. If you appreciate traditional, old-school eateries, you'll love it. Otherwise, a conveyor belt sushi spot might offer better value for money.
