My Honest Review
If you're planning a trip to Osaka, you've likely heard of one of Japan's most iconic yakitori chains: Torikizoku (鳥貴族). I recently visited their Honmachi branch and I'm excited to share my experience!
When you're traveling in Japan and find yourself wondering, "What should I have for dinner?" or "Where can I grab a casual drink?" Torikizoku is always a reliable and fantastic choice. It's a spot I often think of when I'm in Osaka, so this time, I made my way to the Torikizoku Honmachi branch.

It’s incredibly close to Honmachi Station, so it wasn't difficult to find at all! However, since the restaurant is located in the basement of a building, I recommend keeping an eye out for the sign as you descend if it's your first time visiting.
Torikizoku is a famous yakitori chain with branches all over Japan, making it an excellent choice for first-time visitors to the country who want to try yakitori without feeling overwhelmed. It's especially perfect for a casual drink before heading back to your hotel during your Osaka trip, or if you want to enjoy yakitori as part of your dinner.

Atmosphere
Torikizoku doesn't aim for the vibe of a luxurious yakitori specialty restaurant; instead, it offers the comfortable, relaxed atmosphere of a typical Japanese izakaya.
The Honmachi branch, located in the basement, opens up into a surprisingly spacious area. According to official figures, it boasts 7 counter seats and 81 table seats, totaling 88 seats.
It’s a great spot whether you're dining solo and want a quick bite, or if you're with friends looking to enjoy some drinks and conversation.
Honmachi is a prominent business district in Osaka, so on weekday evenings, you'll often find many Japanese office workers unwinding here after work.
This gives it a slightly different feel from izakayas in more tourist-heavy areas. If you're looking to experience a genuine local Japanese izakaya atmosphere rather than a place packed solely with tourists, this spot is definitely worth checking out!
Menu and Prices
One of Torikizoku's biggest appeals is its consistent pricing: almost everything on the menu is **390 JPY**.
From yakitori skewers to side dishes, meal options, and drinks, you can enjoy a wide variety of items at an incredibly affordable price.
If it's your first time visiting, I absolutely recommend the
Momo Kizoku-yaki (もも貴族焼)!

This is arguably Torikizoku's signature dish, featuring large pieces of chicken thigh and scallions grilled on a skewer. One bite and you'll understand why it's so famous! You can choose your seasoning: salt, tare (a sweet savory sauce), or spice, so you can pick what suits your taste best.
Personally, I also highly recommend the Chicken Nanban! The freshly fried chicken topped with that delicious sauce is simply irresistible. Thanks to my recommendation, it has become a must-order for my friend whenever they visit Torikizoku!

Beyond these, you can also have fun ordering some less familiar cuts like Tsukune (chicken meatballs), Seseri (chicken neck), Hatsu (chicken heart), and Nankotsu (chicken cartilage). Since each item is so affordable, it’s a great idea to order a few different types and share them among your group.

Composition and Flavor
When the yakitori arrives, the presentation itself just screams Japan, doesn't it? While similar to the chicken skewers you might find elsewhere, these are larger, and the different cuts offer distinct flavors and textures. I started with the **Momo Kizoku-yaki (Spice flavor)**, and it truly lived up to its reputation as a classic! The generous chicken thigh pieces are wonderfully juicy, and the grilled scallions add a subtle sweetness. With the salt seasoning, you can really appreciate the natural flavor of the chicken. The tare option brings a delightful sweet and savory umami, while the spice seasoning adds a pleasant kick. I highly recommend trying all three flavors!
And of course, yakitori wouldn't be complete without a refreshing beer! Even though I don't drink alcohol, for those who love beer, taking a bite of a skewer and then a sip of cold beer truly captures that perfect vacation feeling 🍺.
Personally, I think Torikizoku isn't about being an ultra-gourmet spot, but rather its biggest strength lies in the fact that you can **enjoy a variety of yakitori and Japanese izakaya dishes without breaking the bank.**
Surprisingly, it's not just the yakitori that's delicious; they also offer a variety of satisfying meal options. Famous dishes at Torikizoku include *Tori Kamameshi (とり釜飯 - chicken pot rice)*, Tori Paitan-men (とり白湯めん - chicken white soup noodles), and Tori Zosui (とり雑炊 - chicken porridge). These are perfect for finishing your meal after enjoying the yakitori. *Keep in mind that Tori Kamameshi requires cooking time after ordering, so it's a good idea to place your order in advance if you plan to try it.*

Recommended For
✔️ Travelers who want to try authentic yakitori in Japan
✔️ Those looking for a casual spot to grab a drink in Osaka
✔️ Anyone eager to experience a local Japanese izakaya atmosphere
✔️ Foodies who want to sample various chicken cuts
✔️ Visitors preferring budget-friendly dining over expensive restaurants
✔️ People seeking dinner options near Honmachi Station
I particularly recommend visiting with **a group**! The menu is so diverse that if 2-4 people visit, you can each order several different dishes you want to try and share them. Even if you're traveling solo, there are counter seats available, making it perfect for a meal or a drink alone.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, Torikizoku Honmachi was an excellent choice for enjoying Japanese-style yakitori and izakaya dishes without feeling a pinch in your wallet. It's not the kind of place where you'd expect an incredibly luxurious or unique gourmet experience. Instead, it’s best thought of as a spot to *savor a relaxed atmosphere, much like a local enjoying a drink after work in Japan*.
The sheer variety of yakitori, combined with its affordable pricing, makes it fun to order many different kinds and taste them all. If you're exploring Osaka and find Dotonbori or Namba a bit too chaotic, and you're looking for an izakaya with a different vibe, I suggest venturing a little further to Honmachi and checking out Torikizoku.
Personally, I highly recommend the combination of **Momo Kizoku-yaki + Chicken Nanban + Tsukune + Beer** 🍺.
If you're in Osaka wondering, "What should I eat for dinner tonight?" give Torikizoku a try!
