Today, I want to introduce Tennoji Zoo, a fantastic place

I highly recommend for families with children in Osaka.

Plus, I'll share some tips below on how to visit Tennoji Zoo

without breaking the bank!

Recommended Spots for Kids in Osaka

Tennoji Zoo is nestled right in the heart of Osaka,

a pretty substantial zoo where you can meet around 170 species of animals.

It's super accessible, located right next to a subway station,

and it's perfectly situated to combine with a visit to nearby Shinsekai and Tsutenkaku Tower!

Unfortunately, Tennoji Zoo isn't a free admission facility.

Also, as of July 1, 2026, the adult admission fee increased from 500 yen to 800 yen.

(Students are 200 yen, and preschoolers enter for free).

While you can purchase tickets on-site,

the queues can get quite long.

So, it's much more convenient to book your tickets in advance using the link below,

Before you visit Tennoji Zoo,

My Tennoji Zoo Visit Review

Next up, I'll share my review of Tennoji Zoo!

For a zoo in the middle of a city, Tennoji Zoo is quite sprawling,

covering an impressive area of about 11 hectares.

If you want to explore it leisurely with your kids,

you'll probably want to set aside 2 to 3 hours.

Since Tennoji Zoo is quite large,

instead of trying to see every single section,

I recommend focusing on the most popular animals.

For your first stop, I suggest the Ocean Zone.

In the Ocean Zone, you can get a fantastic look at animals like polar bears, penguins,

and sea lions swimming gracefully underwater, which are usually quite hard to spot!

What's even more amazing is that the polar bears often come right up to the window,

allowing for incredibly close views that absolutely mesmerized the kids!

Next, we left the Ocean Zone and headed to the African Savanna Zone,

stopping to admire the elephants located right in the center of the zoo.

Rhinos, zebras, giraffes, lions, and more were all there,

greeting visitors in their outdoor enclosures.

Since we visited during the hot summer, most of our animal friends

were taking a well-deserved rest in the shade.

We also got to see leopards and tigers.

It was a bit heartbreaking to see them lying down,

exhausted by the heat.

The tiger, in particular, looked so thin, which made me feel even more empathetic.

We also encountered wolves and red pandas.

The red pandas were just unbelievably cute!

Planning a Family Trip to Osaka with the Kids?

If you're planning an Osaka trip with your children,

Tennoji Zoo is definitely worth a visit!

It's a city zoo, so access is excellent, and you can also enjoy

Shinsekai and Tsutenkaku Tower nearby, making it a triple treat!
