If you're ever in Osaka, you absolutely HAVE to try takoyaki!
Unlike the crispy takoyaki you might find back home in Korea,
in Osaka, the batter inside is made wonderfully soft and gooey,
so you'll discover a completely new flavor sensation!
But with hundreds of takoyaki restaurants
just in downtown Osaka,
it can be tough to decide where to go, right?
I'll give you my honest review of 9 takoyaki restaurants I personally visited and paid for!

📍 My top pick for takoyaki is
Takoyaki Doraku Wanaka.
It has several branches near Osaka's Namba and Dotonbori areas,
and every single one is incredibly popular.

It was the first takoyaki I had in Osaka after the pandemic ended, and it was so delicious that I can still remember the taste.
The moist batter had a delightful cheesy aroma,
and it was so good I'd definitely want to visit again.
If I could only eat takoyaki from one place,
I'd choose this one!

Weekday Hours: 10:30 AM ~ 9:00 PM Weekend Hours: 9:30 AM ~ 9:00 PM Closed: Open Daily Location: East of Nankai Namba Station |

📍 My second pick for a must-try takoyaki spot is Acchichi Honpo.
It was already famous, but after being featured on Gangnami YouTube and other media,
it's gained even more fame, especially among international visitors.
In fact, you'll always see a long queue there.
Personally, because it was so famous,
I actually wondered, 'Is it really that good?'

But one early morning, I found no queue and decided to give it a try.
It was much tastier than I expected,
and incredibly soft!
What's more, it came with ginger, which perfectly cut through any potential richness,
making it dangerously easy to just keep eating!
If you're craving takoyaki late at night near Dotonbori,
▶️ you won't regret visiting Acchichi Honpo!

Hours: 9:00 AM ~ 12:00 AM (Midnight) Closed: Open Daily Location: Dotonbori Riverside |

📍 My third pick is Tako Shogun.
This takoyaki spot is run by a dedicated middle-aged takoyaki artisan,
who operates it all by himself.
It's only open during evening hours.

Here, I accidentally chose soy sauce as the topping,
which allowed me to taste the pure essence of takoyaki.
It was slightly savory and soft,
and despite that, the inside was generously filled.
If I had chosen a sweet takoyaki sauce with it,
it probably would have been even more delicious.
However, the soy sauce flavor was a bit subtle,
which is why I personally ranked it third.
Tako Shogun |
Hours: 7:30 PM ~ 12:00 AM (Midnight) Closed: Sundays, Mondays Location: East of Dotonbori |

📍 My Best 4 is Kokoka, a Takoyaki Izakaya.
This is an izakaya I stumbled upon by chance,
and since they offered takeout, I decided to give it a try.
While this was three years ago, truthfully, the staff working here
didn't leave me with a very friendly impression.
In fact, I'd say I even felt a bit of unfriendliness.

Despite that, I took the takoyaki back to my accommodation to eat it.
Even though it had cooled down, it was still packed with flavor and absolutely delicious!
It was so good, it almost made me forget about the unfriendly service.
However, the taste of food is often influenced by the service,
so I personally ranked it around 4th place.

Hours: 4:00 PM ~ 11:00 PM Closed: None Location: West of Nankai Namba Station |

📍 My Best 5 is Takoyaki Kuu, which offers both takeout
and operates as an izakaya.
We visited this restaurant for an evening meal.

The takoyaki balls are a bit on the smaller side,
but the taste was genuinely good and enjoyable.

The big advantage here is that they offer unique dishes using takoyaki, like Takoyaki Senbei.
It has a different charm compared to regular takoyaki,
and pairs wonderfully with beer, offering a fresh experience!
If you're craving takoyaki late at night or in the early hours,
this izakaya is definitely worth a visit!
Takoyaki Kuu |
Hours: 7:30 PM ~ 4:30 AM (next day) Closed: Thursdays Location: East of Shinsaibashi |

📍 My Best 6 is Takoyakiza.
While its exterior has a very local, artisan feel,
it's actually a place where part-time staff of Southeast Asian descent
cook the takoyaki.

The takoyaki balls are on the smaller side, and if you leave them,
their insides are so soft they might even collapse.
Despite the soft interior, the taste was quite good,
and they generously apply a lot of sauce,
making for a delightfully sweet takoyaki.
However, since Takoyaki Doraku is right across the street,
unless you're in the area very late at night,
it's not necessarily a must-visit spot.

Weekday Hours: 10:00 AM ~ 12:00 AM Weekend Hours: 9:00 AM ~ 12:00 AM Closed: None Location: East of Nankai Namba Station |

📍 My Best 7 is Konamon Tengoku.
This spot operates with tables set up on the street,
allowing you to enjoy takoyaki and draft beer even in the middle of the day.
Here too, the takoyaki had that soft and fluffy interior,
typical of Osaka-style takoyaki,
and the taste was generally quite decent.

Sitting at an outdoor table in the middle of the day,
enjoying takoyaki with a beer,
this restaurant is perfect for soaking in the Osaka vibe.
However, since it's an outdoor setting, there were
quite a few people smoking nearby, which could be a bit uncomfortable.
This is why I ranked it 7th.
Konamon Tengoku |
Hours: 12:00 PM ~ 11:00 PM Closed: Mondays Location: East of Dotonbori |

📍 Coming in at Best 8 is Takoyaki Ebisu.
This is another izakaya that stays open until early morning.
Unlike the places I've introduced so far,
it's located in front of Nippombashi Station, where there aren't many tourists,
so you can really soak in that local vibe here.

Most of their takoyaki is made in advance,
and served when you order.
It wasn't bad, but it was just average.
However, since it's an izakaya, you can enjoy it with drinks,
and if you think of it as a beer snack, it wasn't bad.
If you're looking to enjoy takoyaki late at night at a local izakaya with an authentic feel,
I'd recommend this spot!

Opening Hours: 11:00 AM ~ 5:00 AM (next day) Closed: None Location: In front of Kintetsu Nippombashi Station |

📍 And finally, at Best 9, we have Jumbo Sakaba.
This is a budget-friendly izakaya focusing on Osaka's local dishes
like takoyaki and okonomiyaki.

While the prices are incredibly affordable,
the quality of the food wasn't particularly high.
It's fine if you're looking for cheap snacks to go with your drinks,
but it falls short if you're expecting delicious takoyaki.
So, this is another spot I'd recommend for those looking to grab one last drink
late at night.

Today, I've shared my list of 9 takoyaki spots in Osaka that I personally visited and paid for.
I've ranked them from 1st to 9th based on my personal preference, and I highly recommend checking out numbers 1 through 3.
Numbers 4 and 5 are worth a visit if you're in the area,
while the rest are just average,
so I'd only suggest them late at night when other options are limited.
When you go to Osaka, eating takoyaki is an absolute must!
So, refer to today's review and list,
and savor some delicious Osaka-style takoyaki!
Takoyaki Doraku Wanaka Sennichimae branch is located on the east side of Nankai Namba Station. It operates from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM on weekdays and from 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM on weekends, with no days off.
Acchichi Honpo gained immense popularity among Koreans after being featured on various media, including Kangnami's YouTube channel. Its charm lies in its soft takoyaki, served with ginger, allowing you to enjoy it continuously without feeling greasy.
Tako Shogun is closed on Sundays and Mondays, operating during the evening from 7:30 PM to 12:00 AM. Their takoyaki offers a savory, soft, and substantial taste, especially if you accidentally choose the soy sauce.
At Takoyaki Kuu, in addition to regular takoyaki, you can enjoy unique dishes that utilize takoyaki, such as Tako Senbei. These items pair well with beer, offering a new kind of enjoyment.
Konamon Tengoku is a great place to experience the Osaka vibe, as you can enjoy takoyaki and draft beer at outdoor tables from midday. However, since it's an outdoor space, there might be many people smoking nearby, which could cause discomfort.
