When planning my Osaka adventure, a top-tier sushi experience was non-negotiable.
It wasn't easy finding a genuine recommendation amidst countless sponsored posts. After poring over Google Maps reviews and comparing options, I finally landed on 'Sushi Hiro'.
It was my very first meal in Osaka, and thanks to Sushi Hiro, my trip started on an absolutely perfect note! ><
2. Affordable Omakase at Sushi Hiro Main Branch: The Menu

The menu is conveniently accessed by scanning a QR code at your table. A huge plus: they kindly stored my luggage, which was a relief as I'd been worried about my carry-on.
Inside the tanks, you'll spot impressively large shrimp and abalone, seemingly "swimming" around!

Just looking at the pictures makes you want a beer, doesn't it? I immediately ordered a super refreshing draft beer and gulped it down.
At Sushi Hiro, you can order individual sushi pieces or opt for an omakase course.
You choose between 5, 10, or 15-piece sets, priced at ~$11, ~$23, and ~$34 respectively.
My husband and I each ordered the 10-piece set.

Honestly, every single piece was fantastic, but the first squid sushi was unbelievably delicious – truly out of this world! And the spotted horse mackerel (kuroaji) on the bottom right? Absolutely phenomenal.

Midway through, a warming bowl of miso soup arrived.
I also separately ordered the raw shrimp sushi, which they seamlessly incorporated into my omakase flow. No words are needed for fresh shrimp – it was one of those very shrimp swimming in the tank earlier! The conger eel (anago) sushi was also incredibly delicious.

My husband ordered Yamazaki whiskey, and we also added a tuna roll separately from the omakase.
The tuna roll was good, but it didn't stand out as much as the other sushi pieces, so you might not need to add it specifically.
The heads from the raw shrimp I ordered earlier were lightly grilled and served separately. You know how amazing perfectly grilled shrimp heads are when you dig into the rich flavor inside, right?
3. Value and Flavor: A Truly Satisfying Experience

I'll admit, with so many fantastic sushi restaurants available globally these days, I briefly wondered if traveling all the way to Japan just for sushi was truly necessary.
But I was determined to find a spot that offered both exceptional taste and great value, surpassing what I could find back home. Sushi Hiro absolutely delivered on that front – I couldn't have picked a better place! You seriously need to add this to your Osaka itinerary.
Sushi Hiro's main branch is located near Tsutenkaku, but there's also another branch closer to Dotonbori, so you can choose the one that's most convenient for your plans.
Oh, and everyone there was incredibly friendly! That's a huge bonus. The owner (or manager) even spoke a little English, explaining each piece of sushi – what fish it was, and whether it was best with salt or soy sauce. This personal touch really elevated the experience.
I'd revisit Sushi Hiro 10,000% – it's that good. If you're not looking for an overly fancy omakase experience but rather an authentic, high-quality, and affordable one, I wholeheartedly recommend giving Sushi Hiro a try!
