Miyazaki Jidori Kuruma Shinsaibashi Review 2026: Osaka's Hidden Yakitori Gem
Craving authentic yakitori in Osaka? Discover Miyazaki Jidori Sumibiyaki Kuruma in Shinsaibashi, a local favorite for exquisite charcoal-grilled chicken and a cozy, upscale atmosphere.
Hello everyone!
Osaka is finally starting to feel a bit like autumn, isn't it? The days are getting a little shorter, and that crisp air always makes me crave one thing: yakitori! Of course, yakitori is delicious any time of year, but there's something extra special about enjoying those grilled skewers with a cold drink after work when the weather cools down.
There are plenty of great yakitori spots out there, but today I want to introduce you to a place I visited recently that really impressed me with its clean, refined atmosphere.

Atmosphere
Unlike your typical bustling yakitori joint, Kuruma offers a more refined, slightly upscale dining experience. The ambiance is generally calm and inviting, with private rooms, table seating, and counter seats available. Private rooms require advance reservations, and honestly, it's a good idea to reserve for tables or counter seats too, as it's quite popular. I opted for the counter seat, and even though there were two of us, I loved being able to watch the chefs grill the skewers over charcoal right in front of me. It's a fantastic culinary performance!
What's surprising is that even though it's a chain, it doesn't feel like one at all. I actually didn't realize it was a chain until much later!
And here's the kicker: this place is in a super touristy area of Shinsaibashi, but when I went, there wasn't a single tourist in sight! It truly felt like a hidden gem, known only to locals.

Menu and Prices
Like many places in Japan these days, ordering is mostly done via QR code. You'll find a QR code at your table to browse the full menu on your phone. The physical menu only lists drinks and daily specials; the rest is online. You can also find their full menu on their website.

As for prices, they're a bit higher than your average izakaya, but comparable to other quality yakitori spots, so I'd say they're mid-range. It's certainly different from places like Torikizoku, but then again, the menu and quality are on another level.
Taste
Just like the atmosphere, the flavors here are incredibly clean and refined.
While they offer many common yakitori items, their signature dish is the Kaguradori Sumibiyaki (charcoal-grilled Kaguradori chicken).
This is charcoal-grilled chicken sourced from their own dedicated poultry farm, where they raise a special breed called 'Kaguradori.' The smoky aroma from the charcoal combined with the succulent, chewy texture of the chicken is absolutely perfect, especially if you enjoy it with a cold drink!
But my absolute top recommendation is the Tsukimi Tsukune (chicken meatballs with an egg yolk dip). Normally, I'm not a huge fan of tsukune, but I *always* order it here! One isn't enough; you'll want two or three per person! The texture is incredible – a delightful mix of chewy and a satisfying crunch from what feels like finely minced cartilage. And when you dip it into that rich, creamy egg yolk? It creates the most savory, umami-packed flavor. You absolutely *must* try this!

Overall Impression
If you're in Shinsaibashi and craving authentic, high-quality charcoal-grilled chicken skewers, I highly recommend a visit to Kuruma!
The clean and calm atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for enjoying a meal and conversation, a nice change from the usual bustling izakayas.
Its proximity to Shinsaibashi Station makes it super accessible, an easy choice for dinner during your trip. While the prices are a bit higher, the superb taste of the chicken, the lovely ambiance, and the convenient location make it well worth it. If you're looking for a more refined Japanese dining experience beyond the typical yakitori joints, this is the place!
This is definitely a spot frequented more by locals than tourists. And guess what? I know another fantastic local yakitori spot that's also a local favorite, so stay tuned for that review soon!
