Rikuro Ojisan's Cheesecake shops are conveniently located in all major tourist areas across Osaka. You'll find them in the basement food halls of department stores in Namba and Umeda, at Shinkansen stations, and the Namba main store is right near Dotonbori. Getting there is easy, but prepare for a wait – the queues can be long at any branch! 💦 However, if you aim for the morning, you might catch a shorter line, and since most people grab their cakes to-go, the queue moves fairly quickly.

I visited around 1:00 PM on a Sunday, and the line was actually shorter than usual.
How to Navigate the Lines
The Rikuro Ojisan Cheesecake Namba store also has a cafe if you want to dine in. While I didn't use the cafe, as a local, I'd honestly say it's not a 'must-do' experience. You'll likely find other, more charming cafes in Osaka to enjoy.
At the Namba main store, there are three distinct ways to purchase:
The first is for cafe seating.
The second is for freshly baked cheesecake, straight from the oven.
The third is for pre-made cheesecake.
The queues are divided into these three sections. If you're not planning to use the cafe, you'll need to choose between the freshly baked or pre-made cheesecake lines. I opted for the freshly baked line since I was heading straight home to enjoy it. However, if you're not planning to eat it immediately while it's still warm, the pre-made option is perfectly fine. Naturally, the freshly baked cheesecake line is usually the longest! 😉 But you do get to see the fun branding performance where they stamp the cheesecake, which is part of the experience. The choice is yours!
Menu

While it's a cheesecake shop, Rikuro Ojisan also offers a variety of other delicious baked goods like pies, puddings, roll cakes, sandwiches, and even specialty bread.
Personally, my top recommendation is the pie displayed at the bottom of the photo above – the Saku Pie! It's absolutely best enjoyed the day you buy it. The flavor diminishes quite a bit by the next day, so make sure to savor it as soon as possible after purchase.

The Taste Experience

Who doesn't love cheesecake, right? However, most Western palates are likely accustomed to rich, dense cheesecakes. Rikuro Ojisan's cheesecake is quite different from that. Its texture is much closer to a cheese soufflé – incredibly light, fluffy, and soft. The cheese flavor itself is surprisingly subtle. So, if you adore light, airy textures, you'll likely fall in love. But if you're expecting a thick, intensely cheesy New York-style cheesecake, you might be a little disappointed.
That's why I often recommend the pie instead! 😉 Its crispy exterior and moist interior, coupled with a delicate sweetness, make it absolutely delicious.
Bringing it Home?

Yes, you can absolutely bring it home and still enjoy that freshly baked taste! The shelf life is about 3 days, so if your accommodation is in Namba and you're heading to the airport via Nankai, it's perfectly fine to pick one up just before you leave. If you won't be eating it right after arriving home, you can store it in the freezer and then thaw it later. A quick 20-30 seconds in the microwave will bring back that fluffy, warm, just-baked goodness!
Overall Verdict
Rikuro Ojisan became an Osaka icon not just because it's been around for ages, but because it offers a uniquely fluffy cheesecake at an incredibly affordable price, always served fresh from the oven.
That's why people visiting Osaka for tourism or business from other regions often grab Rikuro Ojisan's cakes as souvenirs. When I was there, the person behind me in line bought five whole cakes! Talk about dedication!
A whole cake costs around ~$7, making it a budget-friendly gift. As a representative Osaka specialty, it's a delightful treat for both the giver and the receiver. If you're looking for a special souvenir from Osaka, I highly recommend Rikuro Ojisan's Cheesecake!

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the operating hours for Rikuro Ojisan's Cheesecake Namba Main Store's 1st-floor shop and 2nd-3rd-floor cafe, and are there any tips to reduce waiting time?
The 1st-floor main shop operates from 09:00 to 20:00, and the 2nd-3rd-floor cafe operates from 11:00 to 17:30 (last order at 16:30). Visiting in the morning might reduce waiting time, and the takeout line tends to move relatively quickly.
How can I purchase Rikuro Ojisan's Cheesecake at the Namba Main Store, and are there any recommended items other than the cheesecake?
At the Namba Main Store, you can purchase in three ways: dining in the cafe, buying a freshly baked cheesecake, or buying a pre-made cheesecake. Besides the cheesecake, we highly recommend 'Sakupai,' which is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It tastes best when eaten on the same day.
What is the texture of Rikuro Ojisan's Cheesecake? Also, if I take it to Korea, I'm curious about its shelf life, storage, and reheating methods.
Rikuro Ojisan's Cheesecake has a fluffy and soft, cheese soufflé-like texture rather than a dense one. Its shelf life is approximately 3 days. If you take it to Korea, you can freeze it and then microwave it for 20-30 seconds to enjoy a freshly baked taste.
