Namba Station to Universal Studios Japan: Your 2026 Train Guide
Traveling from Namba Station to Universal Studios Japan with kids and a stroller? We break down the train route, costs (around 400 yen one-way), transfers at Nishikujo, and essential elevator tips for a stress-free journey.
A must-visit for any family trip to Osaka:
Universal Studios Japan!
We stayed in Namba, so we headed out bright and early to catch the train to Universal Studios. With three adults, two children, and a stroller in tow, we made sure to research the transfers and travel time beforehand to ensure a smooth journey.
Getting from Namba Station to Universal Studios takes approximately 30 minutes by train!
However, it’s important to note that you’ll need to transfer at Nishikujo Station and purchase a new ticket there. I’ll share detailed information from our trip, including fares, transfer methods, and stroller-friendly routes for families.

Namba Station to Universal: Which Train to Take?
First, it's worth knowing that there are several stations in Namba with similar names:
Nankai Namba Station, JR Namba Station, and Osaka-Namba Station. We used Osaka-Namba Station (大阪難波駅), which is served by the Hanshin Namba Line.
Inside the station, look for the orange sign that says '阪神線きっぷうりば' (Hanshin Line Ticket Counter).

We bought our tickets at the vending machine shown in the photo, but remember: your destination is Nishikujo Station, NOT Universal City!
📍 Namba
Namba, Chuo Ward, Osaka, 542-0076 Japan
You can't buy a direct ticket to Universal Studios Japan; you'll first need a ticket to Nishikujo Station.
Hanshin Line Ticket Price: 220 yen
The fare from Osaka-Namba Station to Nishikujo Station is 220 yen for adults and 110 yen for elementary school children.

You can purchase tickets from the vending machine by selecting the number of passengers and the fare. We used paper tickets, as shown in the picture.
Take the train bound for Amagasaki. The route is Osaka-Namba → Sakuragawa → Dome-mae → Kujo → Nishikujo. This is a total of 4 stops and takes approximately 8-10 minutes.
You can stay on the train until Nishikujo Station, making this leg of the journey quite straightforward.
Transferring at Nishikujo Station: You'll Need a New Ticket!
Here's where it can get a bit confusing!
At Nishikujo Station, you need to transfer to the JR Yumesaki Line. The Hanshin Line and the JR Line are operated by different railway companies.
📍 Nishikujo Station
1-chōme-32-18 Nishikujō, Konohana Ward, Osaka, 554-0012 Japan
So, if you're using paper tickets like we did, you'll need to exit the Hanshin Line ticket gate and then purchase a new JR ticket.
We initially thought we'd just switch platforms within the same station, but you actually have to exit one ticket gate and enter another. After exiting the Hanshin Line, follow the 'JR線のりば' (JR Line Platforms) sign, and you'll see the JR ticket gates, as pictured.

While you're not moving to a distant station, allow a little extra time for purchasing a new ticket, so don't plan your schedule too tightly.
If You Have a Stroller, Remember the West Ticket Gate!
When traveling with children, our main concern was navigating the stations with a stroller.
Nishikujo Station has stairs and escalators, but if you have a stroller, using the elevators is much more convenient.

Specifically, remember the West Ticket Gate (西改札口) at Hanshin Line Nishikujo Station.
From the Hanshin Line platform, take the elevator to the West Ticket Gate, then use the JR connecting elevator. This allows you to easily reach the JR ticket gates without having to fold up your stroller and carry it up and down stairs.
It's also a good idea to check the location of elevator-connected ticket gates and platforms at Osaka-Namba Station beforehand.
When traveling with children, avoiding stairs is often much more important than saving a few minutes.
JR Ticket: 180 yen, Two Stops to Universal Studios Japan
From JR Nishikujo Station to Universal City Station, the fare is 180 yen for adults and 90 yen for children. The orange ticket I photographed is the JR ticket.

Take the JR Yumesaki Line bound for Sakurajima: Nishikujo → Ajikawaguchi → Universal City. It's just two stops, taking approximately 5 minutes to arrive.
Platform numbers may vary depending on the train, so always check the electronic display boards for the Sakurajima-bound train.
As a tip, if you have an ICOCA transportation card, you won't need to purchase two separate paper tickets. You can simply tap your card at the ticket gates for each railway company, which can save valuable time when traveling with kids.
Total Fare from Namba Station to Universal Studios Japan?

With the Hanshin Line at 220 yen and the JR Line at 180 yen, the total one-way fare for an adult is 400 yen. Our family traveled with three adults, one elementary school child, and one 3-year-old.
Three adults: 1,200 yen
One elementary school child: 200 yen
One 3-year-old (with guardian): Free
Our total one-way fare for five people was 1,400 yen, making the round-trip transportation cost 2,800 yen.
We were also able to bring our stroller on the train without any additional charge.
📍 Universal City

From Universal City Station to the Park Entrance?
Once you arrive at Universal City Station, exit the ticket gate and head left.
Walk along Universal Citywalk, which is lined with shops and restaurants, and you'll soon reach the park entrance.
The walk from the station to the entrance is about 5 minutes! If you're walking slowly with children, plan for 5-10 minutes.

While the actual train ride is about 15 minutes, factoring in transfer waits and ticket purchases, the total journey from Namba Station to Universal City Station can take approximately 25-35 minutes. If you're with a stroller and children, it's best to allow 40-50 minutes to reach the park entrance comfortably.

Especially if you're planning an 'open-run' (arriving before opening), consider potential elevator wait times when planning your departure.
Getting to Universal Studios Japan from Namba Station wasn't as complicated as we initially thought.
Just remember that you need to exit the ticket gate and buy a new ticket at Nishikujo Station, and if you have a stroller, use the elevators connected to the West Ticket Gate for a much easier transfer.

Since you'll be on the go with kids early in the morning, choose the most convenient route to save your energy for enjoying the park!
