On my trip to Osaka,

one dish I absolutely had to try

was Japanese Gyukatsu!

Namba is brimming with amazing restaurants, so choosing was tough,

but this time, I headed to Gyukatsu Motomura's

Namba branch.

As expected for such a popular spot, there was a wait,

but after eating, I definitely felt it was worth every minute.

My child, in particular, had a blast grilling the meat themselves.

It's within walking distance of Namba Station,

making it perfect for a meal while shopping or sightseeing.

However, did you know there are several Gyukatsu Motomura branches

in Namba?

With names like Namba, Namba Annex, and Namba Midosuji, it can get a bit confusing!

The Namba branch we visited

is located on B1F of the Sugata Building.

A Popular Namba Gyukatsu Spot –

Prepare for a Wait!

I'd heard so much about this place being a must-try,

and indeed, there was a wait when we got there.

When you're traveling, there's nothing more precious

than your time, right?!

Especially with kids, I briefly considered going elsewhere

But since we had come all the way to Osaka,

I really wanted to try Japanese Gyukatsu, so we waited.

As we entered the restaurant, I noticed each table

had a small grilling stone ready.

It was a different vibe than typical tonkatsu restaurants,

and even my child was curious before the food arrived.

Gyukatsu Motomura Menu Prices:

Choose Your Meat Portion

Gyukatsu Motomura's menu is refreshingly simple.

You simply choose your desired meat portion for the set meal,

and the prices based on the online reservation menu are as follows:

These prices are for the set meal including three small side dishes,

and in-store menu and prices may vary.

When the food arrived, through the crispy fried coating,

I could see the reddish beef.

You might initially think it's undercooked,

but Motomura's Gyukatsu is typically fried

to a medium-rare doneness – that's its signature!

The idea is to grill it on the hot stone plate at your table,

cooking it just how you like it.

Grilling Gyukatsu Piece by Piece –

Now I Understand the Hype!

Placing a piece of Gyukatsu on the grilling stone,

the sizzling sound alone was delightful.

I grilled it on both sides and took a bite. The thin fried coating was crispy,

and the beef inside was incredibly tender.

It was definitely different from the tonkatsu I usually eat.

The meat wasn't tough at all;

the more I chewed, the more savory flavor I tasted.

It was the kind of deliciousness that made me want to grill another piece right after finishing one!

You can enjoy it with the accompanying sauces,

or add a pinch of salt and wasabi

to experience a whole new flavor.

It was especially delicious paired with warm, fluffy rice.

All the fatigue from waiting in line

completely vanished with every single bite of gyukatsu!

Why the Kids Were Even More Excited:

This is actually the biggest reason

I wanted to recommend Gyukatsu Motomura

as a fantastic kid-friendly spot in Namba!

The absolute fun of grilling the meat yourself!

Usually, kids just eat whatever mom and dad cook for them,

but here, they were thrilled

to place the beef on the hot stone grill themselves

and flip it around like a little chef!

Placing a piece of meat down, watching it sizzle,

and tasting the slice they cooked themselves—

it felt less like just having dinner

and more like a fun mini cooking workshop!

Sometimes kids get restless at restaurants while traveling,

but here, they were completely captivated

by the grilling process!

Of course, since the stone grill gets quite hot,

an adult must always stay close and help out.

For younger children, it’s best to make sure

the beef is cooked all the way through.

Not only did we enjoy a delicious meal,

but it also created a wonderful, interactive memory

for our trip to Osaka!

How to reserve Gyukatsu Motomura Namba Branch

Although card details are required to hold the slot,

you actually pay for your meal

at the restaurant on the day of your visit.

However, the Namba Main Branch has specific conditions!

For parties of 3 or more, they recommend

booking at a nearby sister branch instead.

Children aged 6 and older must order 1 set meal each,

while kids aged 5 and under must be entered separately in the guest count.

So if you have a group like ours—3 adults and 2 kids—

it's much better to look into reserving at another location,

such as the Midosuji branch rather than the Namba main branch.

Also, if you're more than 15 minutes late, your booking will be canceled,

and the table time limit is capped at 60 minutes.

There's a 50% fee for canceling the day before,

and 100% for same-day cancellations,

so double-check your schedule before confirming!

Keep in mind that reservation availability varies by date,

and having a booking doesn't completely eliminate

a short wait time upon arrival,

so keep these tips in mind!

One more thing if you're bringing children along!

The Namba branch is located on the B1 basement floor,

so if you're bringing a stroller, it's a good idea to check

the entry route and stroller storage options beforehand.

And with little ones, taking potential wait times

into account is super important, too.

As long as you stay mindful of the hot stone grill,

it's a spot where kids can enjoy the excitement of cooking,

and adults can savor a genuinely delicious meal!

So Worth the Wait!

A Must-Visit Osaka Namba Eatery with Kids!

Honestly, when a restaurant is famous,

high expectations can sometimes lead to disappointment.

However, Gyukatsu Motomura...

Even after waiting, it was absolutely delicious!

Imagine Gyukatsu that's crispy on the outside and wonderfully tender on the inside,

and the joy of grilling each perfect piece on a hot stone plate yourself!

What really stood out was seeing my child excitedly grill their own gyukatsu,

and the pure delight on their face is a memory I'll always cherish.

When you're searching for incredible food on your Osaka adventure,

it's not just about finding a place where the kids will eat well,

it's even better when the mealtime itself is a joyful experience, right?
