I've always been curious about Ekiben,

so I decided to eat a bento box on the Shinkansen.

I used my Travel Log Card here too,

and the variety is truly amazing.

They offer chicken, beef, pork, and fish options, among others.

The variety is truly incredible!

We ordered a bento box for ¥1380

and a fried chicken bento box for ¥1000.

Ekiben is served cold.

They are sold chilled. 

Even though the rice was cold and a bit firm,

the bento box was surprisingly delicious! 

The destination is displayed on the electronic board,

and there are announcements as well.

From Okayama Station - Take the subway to Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter

Get off at Okayama Station

and transfer to the train for Kurashiki.

Wait at Platform 2 for the Kurashiki-bound train.

The yellow train goes to Kurashiki.

It took about 15 minutes,

and since we used the Wide Pass, there was no extra charge.

From Kurashiki Station

to the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter,

it's about a 10-minute walk.

A taxi takes about 5 minutes,

and we just paid the base fare.

Kurashiki is known for its 'river boats' (kawabune), which were often used to transport goods on small boats.

It's also home to the Ohara Museum of Art, Japan's first private museum of Western art, established in 1930. 

The white building you see above is called Kurashikikan, which serves as a tourist information center.

They also sell tickets for the charming small boat rides.

It's a quiet place, yet there's so much to see and so many delicious things to eat around every corner!

Usually, cherry blossoms or trees droop beautifully here, but it's still too cold and bare. 

Every path you take is just so beautiful. 

Kurashiki was so quiet and incredibly beautiful.

I really felt a sense of peace and relaxation, and I'm so glad I came all this way.

Wandering through the streets,

I initially aimed for the famous

Kappa Donkatsu,

but the wait was just too epic.

So, a new plan formed: ramen it is! 

Shodoshima Ramen Hishio

Then I spotted a ramen that looked tantalizingly spicy, and I simply had to try it!

What a great decision to come here. 

We're here for ramen!

Option number two was Spanish mackerel ramen... and well, that's a pass for me! ~~

Time to order and pay at the vending machine! 

Heads up for fellow explorers: it's cash payment here!

Water glasses and a delightful array of sauces are all neatly lined up, ready to enhance your meal. 

The interior has a cozy, long counter-style seating arrangement, perfect for a solo meal or a chat with fellow diners. 

I bravely went for number 1, the Shoyu Soba Ramen,

and number 4, the Red Hishio Ramen.

Truth be told, I don't usually dive into ramen too often because I sometimes find it a bit heavy,

but this one's spicy promise lured me in!

And get this – it even says they use Korean chili powder, adding an exciting twist! 

Of course, I couldn't resist adding gyoza and chashu rice to our feast!

And let me tell you, those gyoza were absolutely divine. 

It wasn't a scorching, 'level 5 fire alarm' kind of spicy, but it had just the perfect, satisfying kick that made every bite utterly delicious and enjoyable!

Kurashiki is famous for its denim.

It's the birthplace of Japanese denim, and you'll find lots of blue denim clothes,

as well as blue food products and other items.

There are so many people here, too!

They sell blue ice cream, dumplings, burgers, soda, and more here!

The color might not look appetizing, but I was curious...

It tastes like a regular meat dumpling.

It costs ~$2.

Okayama's specialty is "Momo," which means peach.

Peach parfaits are also famous here!!

At the airport, they sell 4 for ~$6.

While they're not as chewy as typical jelly,

they're packed with so much fruit juice and absolutely delicious!

And this one is famous in Hokkaido:

Yubari Melon Jelly! This is delicious too.

I took a taxi in Shin-Osaka, and the taxi driver asked me where I was going for fun.

When I told him I was going to Okayama,

the taxi driver said Okayama...

I heard Kibi Dango was famous, so I gave it a try!

It's about ~$1,

and it has bits of lemon or peach in the custard.

It's so refreshing and delicious!

If you're ever there, make sure to give it a try!

Okayama is renowned for its peaches,

and that's why I found myself at Kurashiki Momoko – famous for its parfaits!

Here, you grab a waiting ticket and wait,

and they'll call your number when it's your turn.

A strawberry parfait, a white strawberry parfait!

A Shine Muscat grape parfait, a tangerine parfait!

There's also an assorted parfait

and fruit cakes.

I couldn't spot any peach parfaits, perhaps they're seasonal,

so I decided to order the mixed fruit parfait instead.

I ended up trying the mixed fruit parfait.

The portion was incredibly generous,

and I paired it with a refreshing black tea.

Two teas and one parfait cost a total of ~$22,

and they only accept cash.

Kurashiki Momoko mostly accepts cash over cards.

This is hands down the best coffee shop in Japan!!

I've visited Japan about 10 times, and

among all the coffees I've had,

this is the absolute best. It's incredibly delicious!!
