During my Osaka trip, after exploring Tsutenkaku and wandering the streets, I started to feel hungry. So, I found myself heading to the Kura Sushi Shinsekai Tsutenkaku branch, renowned for its incredible value. It turns out to be a really famous, large chain! Now, let me share my honest take on the food.

You'll find it easily, right in the heart of the Shinsekai Shopping Street.

The storefront itself looks incredibly vibrant and eye-catching!!

I actually wondered what this building was at first, but with its vibrant exterior and Kura Sushi's fame,

it looked like a great affordable option, so I decided to head inside.

I'd planned to ride the Tsutenkaku Observatory slide, but after getting my waiting number,

I was told to come back in 30-40 minutes, so I popped in to have a quick dinner at this sushi buffet.

I was guided to a seat without any waiting.

The streets were bustling with people, yet... no waiting at Kura Sushi..?

Well, I decided to head inside!

The conveyor belt was swishing along, but surprisingly, there weren't as many people as I expected.

I was guided to a table at the very end and ordered my sushi using a tablet.

Initially, I was a bit flustered, not knowing how to use the tablet to order. But it seemed straightforward enough,

so I quickly figured it out and placed my order.

The condiment containers on the table, including the soy sauce, didn't feel particularly clean, and the overall management didn't seem top-notch. I also didn't feel like I could easily ask questions or communicate with the staff; they seemed inexplicably busy, to be honest, haha.

It turns out there was a separate booklet detailing the overall instructions for use.

It's also available in Korean, so be sure to check it out when you visit~!

You can select languages like Korean, English, and Chinese, so you won't have any trouble ordering.

Here's what we ordered:

You can enjoy each plate for around ~$1 to ~$1.

We ordered: 2 Aged Sea Bream (Ikkan), Salmon, Salt-Aged Tuna (no rice), Engawa, Minced Tuna Rib Gunkan, Yukhoe Gunkan, Yuzu Salt Bonito, Fresh Fish, Yuzu Fresh Winter Amberjack, Maru-F (draft), Super Dry (draft), and Chocolate Ice Cream!

= Total 3,530 JPY (for two people, approximately ~$24)

(We only ate enough not to get too full, as we had to ride the Tsutenkaku slide!)

On the right, it shows the number of plates you've had, and if you meet the plate count requirement, you can get a gacha prize!

We got one on the first try, isn't it super cute >.<

My friend told me to keep it, so I did, but then I tried again on the next round and got nothing... total fail. ㅜㅜ

Let's dive into the taste review as we admire the sushi we ordered!

The sushi we ordered came out on the conveyor belt, but the fish, which is the foundation of sushi, was a bit flimsy,

When I think of Japan, I imagine thick slices of sashimi... so it was disappointing that it wasn't thick at all. haha.

Also, the freshness was much lower than expected, which was a huge letdown.

I wouldn't recommend going just because you think 'Oh, it's cheap' : )

It's cheap, but it definitely isn't good value for money ㅠㅠ

Instead, I strongly recommend exploring other food options around Shinsekai Street.

(There are plenty of Kushi-katsu restaurants and atmospheric eateries)

Just to clarify, not all Kura Sushi branches are like this; the particular Kura Sushi I visited left quite a bit to be desired.

(You know how delicious Japanese supermarket sushi can be, right?!)

This is the aged sea bream, and this one was actually quite good.

The aged sea bream was available, and it had a good, thick texture to chew on. It felt like they sliced it fresh and sent it straight to the conveyor belt. Since only one piece comes on a plate, it's not exactly cheap price-wise! Also, the chocolate ice cream was delicious!

Overall Review & When Settling the Bill

**Turns out my sister had also recommended against this place, but I didn't listen properly and ended up visiting by chance... I'll make sure to listen carefully next time!

When I put the sushi in my mouth, instead of a cool, clean taste, it felt more like I was eating something a bit lukewarm. I can't really recommend it due to the freshness.

The gashapon (capsule toy) system that activates when you put plates in offers a small, fun diversion.

There weren't many people, so we were able to enter without any waiting~!

When Settling the Bill

It was convenient because there was a machine where you could pay, just like at a convenience store!

If you stumble, the staff will help you out. That person was incredibly, incredibly kind :)
