Osaka Namba to Kansai Airport: Rapit Train Ticket Guide 2026
Navigate your journey from Osaka Namba to Kansai Airport with ease! This guide covers Rapit train options, ticket purchase methods, and how to snag the best deals.

Today, we're diving into the best ways to get from Osaka city to Kansai International Airport (KIX), specifically focusing on how to purchase Rapit train tickets on-site, and comparing various booking options and prices!
Getting from Osaka City to Kansai Airport

1️⃣ Rapit Train: This express train offers a direct route from Namba, taking approximately 35 minutes. It features reserved seating and a quick journey, with an official fare of 1,670 JPY.
2️⃣ Nankai Airport Express: Think of this as a rapid subway service. It's more budget-friendly at 970 JPY, but the journey takes around 44 minutes and seats are not reserved.
3️⃣ Limousine Bus: An airport bus service that takes about 48 minutes, with a fare of 1,400 JPY.
If your destination is Tennoji, Umeda, or Kyoto, consider taking the Haruka train instead.
Buying Rapit Tickets On-Site

You can board the Rapit train from Nankai Namba Station. There are several ticket gates, with separate machines for cash-only purchases and those accepting credit cards.

Look for machines with VISA and Mastercard logos at the top. These are the ones where you can pay by credit card.
📌Rapit Train Price Comparison

Even if you buy a discount ticket on-site, it's significantly cheaper to book in advance online.
Currently, Trip.com offers the best price, so I highly recommend booking there in advance. (Same-day booking options are also available!)

To purchase from a machine on-site, first, change the language to English (or your preferred language) in the top right corner. Then, select Kansai Airport or the plane/train icon at the very bottom.
(I'll explain what that icon means below.)

Next, choose the Nankai Line Airport Line.

Select Kansai Airport, then press OK.

Choose your desired train departure time.

Select the number of passengers and your preferred car.
Wondering what a Super Seat is? While standard Rapit seats are arranged 2+2, Super Seats offer a more spacious 2+1 layout. They cost about 200 JPY extra.

Now, pick your seats.

This part can be a bit confusing: unlike the Airport Express, the Rapit train requires both an Express Ticket and a Basic Fare Ticket.
The Basic Fare Ticket covers your entry through the gate and general travel, while the Express Ticket is an additional fee for using the Rapit's reserved seats.
Remember that plane icon I mentioned earlier? That refers to the Kanku Tokuwari Ticket, which bundles both the Express and Basic Fare tickets at a discounted price.

Even though the screen recommended the discounted Kanku Tokuwari Ticket, I missed it and ended up buying a regular one. (Honestly, booking online in advance is still cheaper than even this discount ticket!)
With the Super Seat, my ticket came out to 1,880 JPY per person.

Since I selected the option for both tickets to be identical, I received a single combined ticket.
Where to Board the Rapit Train

Insert your ticket into the slot; it will be returned to you. Make sure to hold onto your ticket until you exit the station at your destination.

The Rapit train departs from Platform 9!
Super Seat Review

The Super Seat definitely felt more comfortable and spacious than the regular Rapit seats! There are even single seats, making it a great option if you're traveling solo.

There's dedicated luggage space in the aisle, along with overhead compartments for your personal belongings.

The ample space and ability to stretch my legs made the journey incredibly pleasant. It's also much faster than the Airport Express or Limousine Bus, which is perfect for maximizing your time on a shorter trip.

Booking in advance is significantly cheaper, so even for same-day travel, purchase your tickets online!
