Where to Use, How to Use, Price Comparison

On my recent Osaka trip, I used the Kansai Joy Pass and

saved over ~$66!

The Joy Pass is your ticket to enjoying multiple tourist attractions for free for a week, and the Premium version even includes Universal Studios Japan admission!

Today, I'll break down where you can use the Osaka Kansai Joy Pass, compare prices, explain how to use it, and even compare it to the Osaka Amazing Pass.

Where to Use Your Kansai Joy Pass

First, the Joy Pass comes in two main types:

1. The Basic 1-Week Pass, and

2. The Premium Pass.

The Basic Pass further offers options for 3 facilities or 6 facilities.

Universal Studios Japan popcorn bucket, USJ Express Pass 1,

USJ Shopping & Dining Voucher, USJ Restaurant Priority Seating Voucher, and more.

There are so many options, so I've just highlighted the main Osaka city attractions here.

(Kyoto is also an option, but focusing on Osaka city is more practical for this post.)

Since I had Universal Studios Japan on my itinerary and was already planning to buy a popcorn bucket, I went with the Premium Joy Pass.

Even without the popcorn bucket, the Premium Pass was a steal! I even got a Mario Kart item (which is usually pricier than a regular popcorn bucket) for free, making it an even better deal!!

Price Comparison

I compared the individual prices for the attractions I used with the price of the Joy Pass Premium.

Based on the official website and an exchange rate of 927 JPY, I saved approximately ~$66 with the Joy Pass!

Osaka Amazing Pass Comparison

So, what's different about the Osaka Amazing Pass?

✔️ The Osaka Amazing Pass costs ~ $22 for a 1-day pass and ~ $29 for a 2-day pass,

allowing free access to various tourist attractions, including public transportation.

✔️ The Kansai Joy Pass costs about ~ $29 for 1 week,

allowing you to choose and use 3 or 6 tourist attractions.

The places you can use them are quite similar, but for the Umeda Sky Building, the

Osaka Amazing Pass offers free admission until 3 PM, while the Joy Pass offers it until 5 PM.

How to Use the Joy Pass

Let me also tell you how to use the Joy Pass!

If you've purchased the Joy Pass, you'll need to

download the 'Travel Contents' app from the App Store,

verify your email, and sign up.

On the main screen, tap the 'Link E-ticket' button.

After purchasing the Joy Pass, you'll receive a PDF file.

Either enter the number below the QR code,

or scan it with your camera for automatic entry.

Then your e-ticket will be linked. If your travel itinerary is confirmed,

you can link it in advance from your home country before heading to Japan.

(Note: The pass is valid for 270 days from the purchase date)

Since I have the Premium Pass, my available uses are displayed as 7, but for those who

purchased the basic pass, it will likely show 3.

Ticket activation is the step where you confirm which day you want to start using your Joy Pass for one week.

Again, if your travel itinerary is set,

you can activate it in advance from your home country.

I even exchanged my Universal Studios admission ticket

in advance from my home country! (Because I heard they sometimes sell out.)

Restaurant vouchers, popcorn buckets, and admission tickets

MUST be exchanged at least one day before use.

For attractions like the Dotonbori Wonder Cruise or the Umeda Sky Building,

there's no need to book in advance.

Simply display your Joy Pass QR code on the screen and

exchange it for a ticket at the counter.

Come April, entrance fees for many major attractions

went up by over 500 JPY, making the Joy Pass an even smarter choice!

And guess what? Traveling as a pair, we managed to save nearly

~$146! What a win!
