OSAKA
Hi there! I'm Ciel, your friendly travel guide.
Today, I'm sharing Day 1 of our realistic 4-day family trip to Osaka with my mom and dad.
Osaka Day 1 Route |
Incheon Airport → Kansai Airport → Hotel Check-in → Kuromon Market → Fukushima District → Dinner → Dotonbori → Convenience Store Run → Hotel |

📍 Incheon International Airport Terminal 1
271 Gonghang-ro, Jung-gu, Incheon
Since we had an early morning flight, we wanted to avoid the stress of public transit. Thankfully, my younger sibling came to the rescue and drove us directly to the terminal!
A stress-free start to our family vacation! ❤️

📍 Gourmet Bridge, Incheon Airport T1
4th Floor, near Duty Free Gate 12, Terminal 1
Our trip officially began the moment we checked our bags and grabbed some food.
While I always try to look for something unique, the terminal's food court options are a bit limited. We ended up going with a reliable classic: crispy pork tonkatsu at Gourmet Bridge.
It hit the spot perfectly! Meanwhile, my dad was thrilled to start his vacation early with a cold morning beer. ❤️

While waiting at the gate, I quickly set up our travel eSIMs. It connected instantly and provided fast, reliable data throughout Japan!

We flew with Jeju Air, which landed at Kansai Airport Terminal 2 instead of Terminal 1.
We debated taking an airport limousine bus straight to the hotel, but decided to take the free shuttle to Terminal 1 instead. We needed to purchase ICOCA transit cards for our evening plans anyway, so navigating through Terminal 1 made the most sense.

At the station, we debated between the Haruka Express and the standard Airport Express train.
My dad wanted to take the Haruka for extra comfort, but the arrival time difference to Namba Station was minimal. We opted for the Airport Express instead, and kept ourselves entertained during the ride by streaming a live football match on our phones! ❤️

📍 Candeo Hotels Osaka Namba
2-chōme-2-5 Higashishinsaibashi, Chuo Ward, Osaka, 542-0083
The summer heat in Osaka was intense. My phone kept flashing overheating warnings, which made Google Maps glitch and led us on a brief detour.
However, we arrived safely, and the hotel staff kindly let us check in ahead of schedule. Talk about a lucky start! ❤️

📍 Dotonbori
1 Chome-9 Dotonbori, Chuo Ward, Osaka, 542-0071
After dropping off our bags, we headed out toward Kuromon Market.
Since Dotonbori was right on the way, I stopped to take a classic arrival photo of my parents. The lighting was perfect, and they looked so happy!

📍 Kuromon Market
2 Chome-21 Nipponbashi, Chuo Ward, Osaka, 542-0073
Conveniently located near Candeo Hotels, Kuromon Market is a bustling food hub.
It has grown significantly more touristy and flashy compared to my visit a decade ago. While it's a great spot for taking in the lively atmosphere, the steep prices made me realize why many travelers recommend skipping the food stalls here if you are looking for a budget-friendly meal.

📍 Sennichimae Maguro Center
1-chōme-9-6 Sennichimae, Chuo Ward, Osaka 542-0074
By mid-afternoon, my parents were getting hungry and tired. We originally planned to go to Ichiran Ramen, but my dad spotted this retro local spot and wanted to give it a try.
The indoor smoking smell was quite strong, and I initially wanted to leave, but my parents insisted on staying to experience the local izakaya vibe.
Surprisingly, the grilled whole squid was absolutely delicious! We also couldn't help but laugh at the incredibly tiny draft beer glasses—perfect for a quick photo! 📸

Our main highlight for the evening was a traditional hearth-grilled fish (Robatayaki) dinner. Since we had some time to kill before our reservation, we headed over to the Fukushima district early.

📍 MONDIAL KAFFEE 328 NY3
1-chōme-6-16 Kitahorie, Nishi Ward, Osaka, 550-0014
Fukushima is a quiet, local neighborhood with very few daytime attractions. With the afternoon heat rising past 90°F, we ducked into the nearest cafe for a refreshing glass of iced coffee to cool down.

📍 Robata×Sushi Hana Fukushima Osaka
5-chōme-11-16 Fukushima, Fukushima Ward, Osaka, 553-0003
Finally, it was time for our dinner reservation at Robata x Sushi Hana!
Since we were a group of three, we ordered a set course and added an extra portion. There was a minor communication mix-up regarding the final bill, which made the meal slightly more expensive than expected, but the overall experience was fantastic.
The traditional hearth-grilled fish was cooked to perfection, and the staff and owner were incredibly warm and welcoming. Experiencing local dining like this is what travel is all about! ❤️
Osaka Izakaya Recommendation: Robata x Sushi Hana Fukushima

On our way back to Namba, my dad loved the retro-modern architecture around Umeda, so I snapped a quick photo of him posing in front of the city lights.

I wanted to make sure I got in some photos too! My dad did a great job capturing this sweet moment of my mom giving me a surprise back-hug. ✨

You can't visit Osaka without seeing the iconic Glico Running Man sign. I tried to get them to do the classic running pose, but my mom politely declined, so we settled for a lovely couple photo instead!

A friendly fellow traveler offered to take a family photo of us. Pro tip: always ask other tourists to take your photos, they know the best angles! ❤️

Since we were in Osaka, we had to grab some takoyaki. We stopped by a highly popular spot with a massive line.
Honestly, every time I eat at this specific spot, it's not quite my style, yet I find myself buying it every single visit out of habit. It ended up being our least favorite takoyaki of the trip, but hey, that's all part of the adventure!

We admired some of the quirky, oversized street signs nearby as we made our way back to the hotel.

On our way back, we did a quick convenience store run. If you visit Japan, you absolutely must try the frozen candied sweet potatoes (Daigaku Imo) from Seven-Eleven—they are sweet, crispy, and incredibly addictive! ❤️

My dad grabbed some beers, and I popped into Family Mart to grab some yakitori. The chicken skewers were a bit too salty for our liking, but the classic convenience store sausages were a huge hit.

We wrapped up our first day with cold beers and snacks in the hotel room. Meanwhile, our family dog, Lotto, had no idea we had even left the country!
Day 1 of our 4-day Osaka family trip is officially a wrap. ❤️

I took the free shuttle bus to Terminal 1 and bought an ICOCA card. Then, instead of the Haruka, I took the Airport Express to Namba Station, as the arrival time wasn't much different.
You should be careful when visiting, as the inside of the restaurant smells strongly of cigarette smoke. Among the food, the grilled whole squid was delicious, and a notable feature is that the beer glasses provided are quite small.
It is an izakaya where you can taste traditional charcoal-grilled fish (Genshiyaki), and the staff provides very friendly service. However, you need to check your order details carefully, as miscommunication when ordering a course for additional people can lead to unexpected extra expenses.
The candied sweet potato (daigaku imo) sold at 7-Eleven is delicious and highly recommended as a snack. On the other hand, the chicken skewer bought at FamilyMart was too salty and hard to eat, so it is best to avoid it.
