The restaurant we're diving into today is Unagi no Eito Dotonbori, a recently opened branch of a popular unagi donburi specialty restaurant that already has locations in places like Fukuoka, Hiroshima, and Tokyo's Ginza.
Situated in Soemoncho, just north of the Dotonbori River, it's incredibly convenient for anyone staying nearby.
Plus, with operations until 10 PM, you can satisfy your unagi donburi cravings any time!

Just a heads-up: the actual opening hours have been adjusted compared to what's currently listed on Google Maps, so please keep that in mind.
Also, the entrance to the restaurant is on the Dotonbori River side, so look out for that when you visit!
Since the restaurant is relatively new, it might currently only show up on Google Maps under its Japanese name.

It's worth noting that for the same dishes, the options listed later (and priced 500 yen higher) are prepared using Japanese-sourced unagi!
Restaurant Interior & Atmosphere

The restaurant has a cozy, intimate feel, featuring two 2-person tables, one 4-person table, and about five counter seats.

As expected from a newly opened establishment, the interior was remarkably clean and featured an impressive design that beautifully captured a distinct Japanese atmosphere.
We got there right at opening, so it was nice and empty inside,
but it quickly filled up once mealtime hit!
What We Ordered & Our Meal Review (Plus, How to Enjoy It!)

We ordered one 'Eel and Beef Hot Stone Pot Set' and one
'Unaju Yaki Set,' both in the 'Premium' tier,
and before our food arrived, we also ordered a beer and a cola.
That beer, especially, was incredibly refreshing and smooth,
making it the perfect companion for our eel rice bowls.

Before our dishes arrived, a staff member set out our individual plates,
cutlery, side dishes (banchan), and the broth for Ocha-zuke.
They even walked us through how to best enjoy our meal!

First up for our side dishes were seaweed, two kinds of pickles,
wasabi, and a spicy miso sauce.
Each one was an absolutely perfect accompaniment for the eel.

We were also given a guide on how to best enjoy both the Hot Stone Pot Set
and the Unaju Set.
It was all clearly explained in Korean, complete with pictures,
so we had no trouble understanding anything!

Before long, our delicious ordered dishes arrived.
The elegant dishes and plating immediately caught our eye,
and with the rice completely covered in generous portions of eel,
it looked absolutely irresistible!

The Hot Stone Pot Set, in particular, came with a special touch:
after it was served, a staff member lightly grated cheese over it,
and even performed a mini fire show!

With the enticingly melted cheese and perfectly grilled, golden-brown eel,
it was a visual feast that made our mouths water just by looking at it.
For the Hot Stone Pot Set, you can choose to mix all the ingredients together,
or you can enjoy it like a deconstructed rice bowl, scooping it up, just as I did!

Each piece of eel was notably generous in size,
practically filling our mouths with every bite.
A subtle, fragrant smokiness filled our mouths, and the firm yet incredibly tender flesh
delivered an umami punch that grew with every single chew.

A special highlight of the Hot Stone Pot Set is that since the rice is served in a scorching hot stone pot,
it develops that fantastic layer of crispy, scorched rice at the bottom – 'nurungji'!
This nurungji was truly a delightful surprise!
I'd never thought to combine savory nurungji with eel before, but the harmony between these two was absolutely incredible.
(Trust me, any Korean will absolutely adore this flavor combination!)

Next, we had the Unaju Yaki Set, which arrived with the eel
beautifully and neatly arranged in a classic square lacquered box.
While the Hot Stone Pot Set had a slightly more Korean-influenced presentation,
the Unaju, right from its appearance, completely captured that authentic Japanese essence.

For Unaju, you'll want to scoop small portions onto the individual plate provided,
then customize it with your favorite sauces or side dishes.
Personally, I highly recommend savoring your Unaju
in four distinct ways.
First, dive into its pure, original flavor without any additions.
For your second bite, try pairing it with a touch of wasabi and miso sauce.
Next, for the third way, pour some flavorful broth over it to enjoy it as ochazuke.
And finally, for your last serving, go with whichever method you found most delicious
among the first three!

My absolute favorite way to enjoy it is as Ochazuke.
It's super simple: just transfer some rice and eel to a fresh bowl,
add a sprinkle of seaweed and a dab of wasabi, then pour over that
comforting warm ochazuke broth – and voilà!

While pouring broth over an eel rice bowl might sound a little unconventional at first,
Unagino Eito's special ochazuke broth perfectly complements the eel's rich flavor,
letting you savor an even deeper and cleaner taste experience!
Plus, if you save it for your grand finale, that comforting broth will leave you
feeling wonderfully full and satisfied.
Dotonbori's Must-Visit Spot for Eel Rice Bowls? Look No Further!

Today, we took a delicious dive into Unagino Eito, a freshly opened eel rice bowl sensation
right here in Osaka's lively Dotonbori.
Since it's a brand-new spot, the interior is absolutely pristine, and having a staff member
who spoke Korean made the dining experience incredibly comfortable and hassle-free.
But the real showstopper? The generously sized eel, its melt-in-your-mouth texture,
and that rich, deep flavor — it all surpassed my expectations, truly!

What truly stood out was their hot stone pot eel rice bowl – a rarity you won't easily find elsewhere.
That combination of perfectly cooked eel and crispy scorched rice? Absolutely unbeatable!
I'm convinced that not only eel lovers but also fans of Korean cuisine will find immense satisfaction here.
So, if you're exploring Dotonbori and craving a hearty, incredibly delicious eel rice bowl,
this place is an absolute must-visit!
