I've visited Osaka many times, but taking a cruise along the Dotonbori River was a first for me this trip, and it turned out to be an even better experience than I expected!

First things first, for both the Wonder Cruise and the Dotonbori River Cruise, I highly recommend booking your tickets in advance. These tours are popular, and walk-up purchases can be tricky to secure.

While both cruises offer a similar duration and route, their boarding locations, operating hours, and unique features differ significantly. Unless you absolutely need to cruise in the morning, I highly recommend the Wonder Cruise, especially for that iconic Glico Man photo opportunity!

Both the Wonder Cruise and the Dotonbori River Cruise depart from the Dotonbori River itself, but their boarding points are conveniently located on opposite sides of the waterway.
I personally used my Joy Pass to board the Wonder Cruise, having made my reservation through their official website in advance.
A bonus: they allow you to bring your own drinks, and they also sell beverages and alcoholic drinks onboard!
My Cruise Experience
I took the last cruise of the evening, departing at 9:30 PM. The boat I was on was playing music super loud – apparently, that's a signature vibe for the Wonder Cruise, and it really adds to the lively atmosphere!
The boat was clean, had individual seating, and even a restroom onboard, which was a nice convenience.
On both the Wonder Cruise and the Dotonbori River Cruise, a guide stands at the front, explaining Osaka's famous landmarks and even teaching you some basic Japanese greetings. While the commentary is primarily in Japanese, they do sprinkle in some English, making it easy enough to follow along.
As you pass the iconic Glico Man sign, don't worry if other passengers are holding up their cameras – the boat actually stops here for a dedicated photo opportunity! The guide will even take individual photos for everyone.
Just a heads-up, their photography skills might not be professional-level, so it's a good idea to have someone from your group snap a few extra shots for you! 😉
