⚠️ [IMPORTANT] Before the Tax Exemption System Changes in November 2026,
Why You Should Shop NOW!
Starting November 1, 2026, Japan's consumption tax exemption (tax-free) system for foreign visitors
will undergo a complete overhaul.
Travelers heading to Osaka in September and October,
this is your prime time to shop at Don Quijote!
Current Method | Present your passport at the store and instantly receive a 10% consumption tax discount (tax exemption) at checkout. |
New Method (Effective November 1, 2026) | Pre-pay at the store at the regular price including tax, then confirm the export of goods at the airport customs (kiosk/counter) upon departure to receive a post-refund. |
While the minimum purchase amount (¥5,000 or more before tax) remains the same,
an additional refund process at the airport upon departure means
it's a good idea to arrive at the airport with a bit of extra time on your departure day.
The current method for tax-free discounts at Don Quijote is far more convenient and efficient:
just present your passport at the checkout counter
to immediately enjoy tax-free benefits.
This makes shopping now much simpler and more efficient!

🛒 Osaka Don Quijote Shopping List
TOP 10 Must-Buy Items
Before my Osaka trip to Japan,
I did extensive research on Don Quijote shopping lists.
Among these, I'll recommend the items most sought after by Korean family travelers,
and that my own family used and absolutely loved!

1. Tamago Kake Gohan Soy Sauce (Soy Sauce for Egg Rice)
150ml ¥399 /
300ml ¥499
This is *the* sauce for making delicious soy sauce egg rice!
Mix it with a runny egg yolk and rice,
and you get a perfectly balanced sweet and savory sensation – it's absolutely addictive!
It's a definite must-have for families with kids,
or anyone living alone looking for a quick, delicious meal.
It's one of those items that always finds its way into shopping carts!
(Just a heads-up: it comes in a glass bottle, so pack it carefully in your luggage!)
Perfect for: Cooking beginners, solo travelers/livers,
and families with children.

2. Mask Packs (Top 3 Popular Types)
Typically ¥600-¥700
These are a safe bet for family travel gifts or a great addition to your daily beauty routine.
They come in large-capacity packs, offering excellent value for money,
and you can easily pick them out based on your skin type.
Quality First Derma Laser Mask
Quick 3-minute treatment, featuring nano-capsule penetration technology.
Highly effective for refining pores and brightening dull skin.
The Gold (VC100) line is the most popular, and it comes in a pack of 10 sheets.
Keana Nadeshiko Rice Mask
Formulated with 100% Japanese rice fermented extract and oil ingredients.
Perfect for smoothing rough skin texture and tightening pores, in a 10-sheet pack.
Lululun Face Mask
Known for its great value with a generous pack size,
making it perfect as an everyday beauty essential or a thoughtful gift.
But here's a thought...
If you find yourself collecting a lot of sheet masks, they can get quite heavy,
and your luggage space is running low,
it might be worth considering buying them in Korea instead.
The price difference for Don Quijote sheet masks isn't actually that significant!

3. Japanese Nail Clippers
Once you try them, it's hard to go back to other brands – that's how good they are!
These Japanese nail clippers are a definite must-buy for your trip,
and I wholeheartedly recommend them!!!
Green Bell Nail Clippers
This brand is synonymous with luxury nail clippers in Japan.
Their Takumi no Waza (Artisan's Skill) line is particularly renowned.
KAI Nail Clippers
A popular brand celebrated for its kitchen knives and beauty tools,
you'll find them easily in drugstores, convenience stores, and
of course, at Don Quijote stores across Japan.
Don Quijote Private Brand (PB) Tsunetsu Nail Clippers
They are the most affordable, and perhaps because of Japan's fundamental nail clipper manufacturing expertise,
their performance is surprisingly good.
Green Bell: For premium quality
KAI: The king of value for money (with excellent performance)
Recommended for: Anyone looking for practical, high-quality daily essentials
Great as gifts for parents or elders.

4. Don Quijote Honey Sweet Potato Jerky
Chewy, sweet, and bursting with the natural flavor of sweet potato,
these are perfect as a nutritious snack for kids or a delightful treat for adults.
They're generally loved by everyone,
making them easy to stash into any spare corner of your luggage.
Recommended for: Travelers looking for a quick bite when hunger strikes,
and families traveling with children.

5. Kit Kat Variety Pack (Matcha, Strawberry, Sake, etc.)
This chocolate offers an incredible array of seasonal and regional flavors,
making it the unofficial, must-have souvenir from Osaka that's easy to share.
With so many unique flavors not available back home,
you'll have a blast picking out your favorites!
Recommended for: Gifts for friends and loved ones with a sweet tooth.
Individually packaged, they're ideal for sharing with colleagues or neighbors
as a convenient and delightful bulk souvenir.

6. Cup Noodles (Nissin UFO Yakisoba & Donbei Fried Tofu Udon)
Japanese cup noodles are an absolute essential for any late-night snack craving!
Especially the Donbei Udon, packed with a large, whole piece of fried tofu (yubu),
and the UFO Yakisoba with its irresistible sweet and savory sauce are both
a perfect match for Korean palates (and likely yours too!).
Personally, I *highly* recommend the Donbei Udon!!!
Recommended for: Late-night snack enthusiasts, noodle lovers.

7. Curry
Here are the top
3 popular types of Japanese solid (block) curry that are great to buy at Don Quijote, along with their features.
They're cheaper than in Korea and compact,
making them perfect to slip into your luggage,
which is why they're considered a must-have on any shopping list.
House Vermont Curry: A mild flavor perfect for kids
S&B Golden Curry: The classic with a rich, deep aroma
(Wide range of spice levels available.)
House Java Curry: A clean and spicy option for adults

8. Suntory Whiskey (for Home Use)
You can buy it at a much cheaper price than in Korea,
making it a definite item to toss into your basket for making highballs — a Don Quijote shopping list staple!
(※ Duty-free alcohol limit: 2 bottles per person, total 2L, under ~$400)
Recommended for: Home drinkers & highball enthusiasts

9. Kyusoku Jikan (Calf Patches)
Given the nature of a trip to Osaka,
walking over 10,000 steps a day is practically a given.
When you return to your hotel at night, just stick these on your calves before bed,
and the next morning, you'll notice a significant reduction in swelling and fatigue.
Since the whole family uses them, you'll find yourself adding at least 2-3 boxes to your cart — they're an absolute essential!

10. Furikake
Just a quick sprinkle over rice,
and this 'rice thief' powder will have you emptying a bowl in no time.
With various flavors like egg, salmon, and vegetables,
it helps ease worries about kids' side dishes.
Recommended for: Families with children,
and solo travelers who prefer a simple breakfast.
But...
Honestly, for our family, this was a failed shopping list item.
It's always recommended on Japanese shopping lists as a rice topping, so we bought it with high hopes,
but it just didn't suit our family's palate, including the kids.
In the end, we gave it all to our niece who goes crazy for furikake. Haha.
It's one of those items recommended on Don Quijote shopping lists by everyone *except* our family,
so I decided to include it as the last one!!!
You should open the official discount coupon link provided in the article beforehand and present the barcode at checkout. This will apply a 10% tax exemption and an additional discount of up to 5-7%.
From November 1, 2026, the system will switch to a post-refund method where you first pay the full price including tax at the store, then confirm the export of goods at airport customs upon departure to receive a refund. Currently, you can receive an immediate 10% discount by presenting your passport at the store.
The 150ml size of Tamago Kake Gohan Shoyu is sold for ~$2, and the 300ml size for ~$3. Since it's a glass bottle product, please be careful when transporting it in your luggage.
Don Quijote recommends Green Bell, KAI, and Don Quijote's own private brand product, Zunetsu nail clippers. Green Bell is introduced as a premium option, and KAI as a cost-effective product.
When traveling in Osaka, it's common to walk over 10,000 steps a day, leading to tired calves at night. Using Kyusoku Jikan before bed can reduce swelling and fatigue the next morning, making it an essential item for the whole family.
