My Honest, Self-Funded Review
Hey there, fellow travelers!
It's no secret that Japan is a paradise for dessert lovers, right?! I even have a friend who literally visits Osaka just to indulge in their incredible parfaits. The city is absolutely brimming with amazing dessert spots, and I'm excited to share my favorites with you, one by one!
Today, we're kicking things off with a true gem:
W Osaka Hotel MIX UP
You'll find "MIX UP" conveniently located on the first floor of the stylish W Osaka Hotel. This isn't just any cafe; it's a full-fledged patisserie where you can enjoy everything from delightful afternoon tea sets to champagne, refreshing beverages, and, of course, exquisite cakes. What's even cooler is you can often watch the pastry chefs crafting these edible works of art right before your eyes!

Just a 5-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station, Exit 3.

One minor drawback, for a hotel cafe, the operating hours are a bit on the shorter side.
I often stop by for takeout on my way home after running errands in Namba or Shinsaibashi. But a word to the wise: if you go in the late afternoon, many of the popular cakes tend to be sold out, limiting your choices.
The Exterior
The W Osaka is actually my personal favorite hotel in Osaka, hands down! I'll be sure to share a full review of my stay at W Osaka in a future post.
Unlike some other luxury hotels, the W Osaka boasts a vibrant, playful, and utterly charming atmosphere. MIX UP, being an art-inspired cafe and patisserie, perfectly complements this vibe, even featuring a famous cat sculpture right outside its entrance.
You'll find MIX UP easily on the first floor of the W Hotel, just to the left of the main entrance.
The Interior
The interior is designed with tables circularly arranged around a central kitchen area. When I visited, it was almost closing time, so there was only one other table occupied.
The Menu
Since I was only getting takeout cakes, I didn't get a chance to photograph the full menu. However, from what I recall, they offer a range of coffees, teas, various beverages, afternoon tea sets, and parfaits.
Here’s a general idea of the prices:
Coffee or Tea: Around ~$6
Smoothies and other drinks: Approximately ~$9
Dessert & Drink Set: Roughly ~$12
Crepe & Drink Set: About ~$22
Cakes (Takeout): ~$6
Cakes (Dine-in): ~$8

The Cakes
I picked up two cakes: the Shine Muscat Lemon & Jasmine Tart and the Fromage Blanc Tropical Mousse, each priced at ~$6.
While I was really looking forward to the Shine Muscat, it was actually the Fromage Blanc that stole the show for me – it was SO much more delicious!
Being a hotel patisserie, the quality is inherently high. However, the Shine Muscat, while tasty, felt like something you could find at a high-end department store bakery. The Fromage Blanc, on the other hand, was wonderfully sweet and tangy, with a unique coconut tart base that added a delightful nutty and subtle flavor.
I would absolutely buy the Fromage Blanc Tropical Mousse again; it was truly exceptional!
The Shine Muscat was good, but honestly, it was a bit too sweet and rather straightforward in flavor. Haha.
One of my favorite things about MIX UP is how often their menu changes. Every time I visit, there are new and exciting creations to try!
If I can dig up some old photos, I'll share more of their past cakes, and I'll definitely keep you updated on their seasonal offerings whenever I visit again. Haha!

MIX UP is a cafe & patisserie located on the left side of the main entrance on the 1st floor of W Osaka Hotel. It's about a 5-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station Exit 3.
MIX UP operates daily, year-round, from 11:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last order at 5:30 PM. The operating hours are short, and if you visit in the afternoon, cakes might be sold out, limiting your choices.
Cakes are 950 yen for takeout and 1,350 yen for dining in. The article specifically mentioned that the 'Fromage Blanc Tropical Mousse' was particularly delicious and expressed an intention to repurchase it.
