This isn't one of those famous Osaka must-visit spots you'll find plastered all over travel guides. But on a previous trip, I happened to walk past it and felt an inexplicable pull to go inside. My schedule was packed back then, so I couldn't make it work, but I tucked it away in my memory. This time, on a completely free-and-easy trip with no strict itinerary, I decided to wander wherever my feet took me, and that brought me right back to this charming little cafe.

The signboard, adorned solely with Chinese characters, reminded me a bit of Taiwan. Perhaps it's because I haven't explored much of mainland China myself, but the aesthetic felt distinctly Taiwanese to me.
Cafe Causerie

The interior space isn't huge, with just a bar seating area and perhaps four or five small tables beside it. Looking at the tables near the entrance, it evokes that charmingly old-school Japanese cafe vibe, yet the menu items they serve have a surprisingly modern touch.

They have an inviting selection of desserts, and a small oven is used to bake or warm them right on the spot. The delicious aroma of other customers' orders being heated and baked wafted through the air, making me crave something even when I wasn't particularly hungry.

Despite the compact space, the large window offered a wonderfully open view. However, if you sit at the bar, your back is to the window, so that lovely view is mostly for the staff. It also allows passersby to peek inside, adding to the cafe's charm.
Coffee (light roast / dark roast)

For coffee, you can choose between a light or dark roast.

And in a style often seen in Japanese cafes, they use a siphon method for brewing. Heat is applied to send steam upwards, then removed to draw the coffee down, creating a unique and precise extraction.
The brewing equipment and the warm glow of the flame are quite beautiful to watch. It's a method you'll often encounter in other Japanese cafes too.

A comforting cup of hot Americano.
Desert (Seasonal Tart)

When it came to dessert, I decided on the seasonal tart (even though I hadn't planned on it, the aroma made me!). I checked some Google Maps reviews beforehand, and many praised the seasonal tart. When I ordered, it was a delicious pear tart, though previous reviews mentioned other fruits. I wasn't expecting much from a pear tart, but it was surprisingly good – both the crust and the sweet, tender pears on top were delightful.

You can refer to this for their dessert menu.

This cafe is located in Nishinari Ward, an area not typically frequented by most tourists. However, its roadside location right by a train station makes it quite visible if you happen to be in the vicinity. It’s not necessarily a spot you’d plan your entire itinerary around, but it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby and craving a coffee or a sweet treat. As I was taking photos before heading in, I noticed other international travelers on their own Japan adventures doing the same, snapping pictures from various angles. This created a sense of shared appreciation for this unique spot, though I was also a little surprised. After all, it's not a grand attraction, just a local, authentic cafe. But for those who appreciate that kind of genuine, understated charm, it’s absolutely perfect.
Cafe Causerie is located at 1-2-28 Taishi, Nishinari Ward, Osaka. While it's not a commonly sought-after area, it's situated right in front of the station on the roadside, making it noticeable when you visit.
You can choose between light roast and dark roast coffee. They use a brewing method where heat is applied to create steam, and then the heat is removed to extract the coffee.
The seasonal tart, which received many compliments in Google Maps reviews, is the recommended menu item. When the writer visited, it was a pear tart, and it was said to be even more delicious than expected.
