Today, I'm sharing the highlights of
Days 3 & 4 of our 4-day, 3-night family trip to Osaka with my parents.

We tried going to Don Quijote Dotonbori the night before, but it was so incredibly crowded.
Not only was it hard to browse for souvenirs, but the checkout line looked like it would take a lifetime.
So we decided to make a quick pivot
and rescheduled our shopping spree for the next morning.
That's how we ended up back in Dotonbori bright and early!
We grabbed some souvenirs here, went back to the hotel to drop off our haul, and then set off again.
It was only possible because our hotel was so close, which was an absolute lifesaver!

Whenever I travel to Japan, Matsuya is my go-to spot for a quick breakfast.
Since there was one right near our hotel,
we grabbed a quick, delicious breakfast there once again.
Should we go with our usual favorite, the Dotonbori River Cruise? Or
should we try the Wonder Cruise this time? After much debate,
we figured the Dotonbori River Cruise's location
would make it easier to hit up the nearby outdoor food stalls afterward.
So, we decided to stick with the classic River Cruise.
They say if you want to get a prime evening slot,
you have to line up and book right when they open at 10:00 AM.
I don't remember the line being this long in the past,
but even arriving about 20 minutes before 10:00 AM, there was already quite a crowd!
Thankfully, we successfully secured our 8:30 PM tickets! ‼️
📍 Osaka Castle

Our next stop: Osaka Castle!!
Originally, we wanted to make the most of our Osaka Amazing Pass
and take a ride on the Gozabune Boat.
But we realized if we did that, we'd be late
for our lunchtime eel rice bowl reservation. So, we skipped the boat
and decided to treat my parents to the stunning views from the observation deck instead.
It's been a while since I last visited. Back then, we walked
all the way from the subway station to Osaka Castle.
But now, you can take a road train for a small fee!
They have 1-day passes and single-ride tickets.
At first, I thought a single-ride ticket at 300 yen (~$2) per person was a bit pricey,
but once we got on, it turned out to be a pretty long distance. It was totally worth it!
If you're not a fan of long walks, I highly recommend taking it.
After taking in the panoramic views from the top of Osaka Castle, we walked back down.
As we were strolling, I found a spot that looked perfect for photos,
so I had my mom and dad strike a kissing pose. It turned out so sweet—so happy with how it looks!
So I tried to get a sweet shot with my dad too...
But my dad was having none of it! 😂
So annoying but so funny! ‼️
📍 Tsuyunoten Shrine (Ohatsu Tenjin)

Since we had some time left before our eel rice bowl reservation,
we visited Tsuyunoten, a nearby shrine famous for love and relationships.
To be honest, I was never really interested in shrines,
but I saw a post on Instagram and thought,
"Wow, is there really a shrine this gorgeous?" so I had to see it for myself.
Maybe because it's a love shrine, the pink vibes made it so beautiful and unique!!
While we were there, I even prayed for my parents' eternal love.
Stay happy you two! (haha)
This was the incredible eel rice bowl spot we booked as a sponsored review experience!
There was a warning about lots of eel and tiny bones, which made me slightly worried,
but honestly, I didn't feel any bones at all! (Maybe I'm just not very sensitive to that stuff 😜)
Either way, it was absolutely delicious and we loved it.
Osaka Umeda Eel Restaurant: Unagino Naruse Ohatsu Tenjin Branch

Honestly, this was a place where I wondered, "Do we really need to go here?"...
Back then, I was so focused on the night view
that I didn't give the escalator a second thought.
But since today was our Osaka Amazing Pass day,
we could enter the observatory for free before 3:00 PM,
so we decided to go check it out!
Apparently, this has become a super popular photo spot lately,
so I snapped some pictures of my parents here too.
My mom was looking a bit tired, though,
so we decided to cancel our plans to go to the HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel
and just hang out at a cafe instead... lol.
I told them to grab a seat while I went to buy some treats,
and look at my sweet parents securing the perfect window seats! ♥️
I was originally planning to just get regular coffee,
but since everyone else was drinking the Color Pop Soda Float,
my mom and I got the Color Pop Soda Floats, my dad got a beer,
and we relaxed for a bit while watching the rainy view outside.
With our dinner reservation time approaching,
and since we were already at the observatory, it felt a waste not to go all the way up just because we were tired.
So we headed on up and took some photos!
Somehow, we managed to get some really pretty shots on the escalator!
To be honest, when people talk about the Umeda Sky Building Floating Garden Observatory,
you always see those gorgeous photos taken on the escalator.
I used to wonder, "How on earth do they get a clean shot all by themselves?"
But it turns out, if you time it just right on the way down,
you can frame it so nobody behind you is in the shot!
And that's how I managed to capture some epic shots of my mom and dad (?)
Our dinner was actually a sponsored/review invite. Even though I used to love anime and manga,
that was literally a million years ago... so I was a bit worried about my Japanese.
Surprisingly, I didn't have to speak much at all,
and they explained everything so kindly and slowly! lol
Thanks to them, we had an absolutely perfect, top-tier meal. Haha.

Japan Osaka Travel: Fukushima Station Local Teppanyaki Restaurant - Steakhouse Loin
Every time I visit Osaka, I ride the Dotonbori River Cruise
using the Amazing Pass. In the past, I just rode it because it was free,
and I did the same this time around too,
but it turned out to be an absolute blast!
Since we sat right at the front, we got to interact a lot with the guide (or should I say entertainer?).
We had so much fun with them.
I remember the cruise used to be just a simple explanation of the 7 bridges in Dotonbori,
but this time, we learned the "Takoyaki Song," did the hand gestures, and sang our hearts out!
We also learned that in Osaka, "thank you"
is said as "Ookini"!
As it turns out, the ultimate prime spot to see the Glico Man
was right from the Dotonbori River Cruise... lol
Honestly, this was the most fun thing we did during our entire Osaka trip!
After getting off the Dotonbori River Cruise,
we decided we had to grab some food at a nearby street stall!
Since I had already sworn to eat "one takoyaki a day" on this trip,
we grabbed some at Kukuru. Other than the one we had near our hotel,
this spot was definitely my second favorite.
I said "Ookini!" to the staff there, and they absolutely loved it!!!!
They started chatting with me so much, haha!
It was such a fun interaction! ‼️
You know how people say that in Osaka, if you pretend to shoot a stranger,
they'll actually pretend to get hit and play along? I never really believed it...
But even though it wasn't a finger gun, the reaction to my "Ookini"
proved to me that the friendly Osaka vibe is 100% real! lol
(Even the Dotonbori River Cruise staff recognized us and gave us a big, friendly wave! Hahaha)
Osaka really is such a fun and lively place.
Of course, the super friendly staff made it great, but
the takoyaki itself was absolutely delicious too! ♥️
Since it was our last night, it felt a bit too early to head back to the hotel right after the takoyaki,
so we hopped over to another spot to get some okonomiyaki.
Eating it right by the Dotonbori River made it taste even better!
After having a blast in Dotonbori, we were absolutely stuffed,
so we just grabbed a few light snacks from the convenience store
and bought some amenities back at the hotel...
After enjoying one last relaxing soak in the public bath,
I tried eating the dried squid back in our room that I'd bought at Don Quijote earlier that evening...
But I threw it away after just one bite, haha..
This cost almost ~$18? Like ~$19... Total waste of money.
The squid tried to ruin an otherwise perfect day,
but Day 3 was still an absolute blast!

Since we flew Jeju Air, we had to go to Terminal 2.
I really wanted to take the airport bus straight to Terminal 2,
but if we took the first bus, we would have missed our flight...
So we had no choice but to take the express train to Terminal 1 first, and then transfer to Terminal 2.
We had breakfast at the airport...
But because Kansai Terminal 2 is much smaller than Terminal 1, there weren't many food options,
and things were surprisingly expensive!
To make matters worse, all the decent stuff was sold out...
Still, my mom needed to eat to take her medicine, so we ordered a curry,
and my dad got a bento box with a drink...
We're in the land of bento boxes, but this one was so bland..
Now I get why everyone was just grabbing onigiri (rice balls)...
I highly recommend either sticking to onigiri like everyone else,
or spending a bit more to get a proper hot dish like Hayashi rice.
Even though the airport food at Kansai was a major letdown,
once we landed back at Incheon Airport,
reality hit us that our amazing trip was officially over, and we felt so wistful.

When we dropped by the Dotonbori Don Quijote the previous evening, it was ridiculously crowded.
It felt like picking out souvenirs, let alone waiting in line to pay, would take literally forever.
So, we decided to call it quits early
and rearranged our schedule to visit the next morning instead,
which is why we found ourselves back in Dotonbori bright and early!
We quickly grabbed some souvenirs and headed back to the hotel to drop off our shopping bags.
This was only possible because our hotel was so close—such a lifesaver!

should we try the new Wonder Cruise? After debating for a bit,
we figured the traditional Dotonbori River Cruise was in a better spot
to easily hit the nearby outdoor food stalls afterward.
So, we bypassed the Wonder Cruise and locked in the River Cruise once again!
If you want to secure a spot for the popular evening slots,
they said you have to line up at 10 AM right when they open.
So I joined the queue, but I don't remember the line being this long in the past!
Even though I arrived about 20 minutes before 10:00, there was already a pretty big crowd.
But luckily, we successfully managed to get tickets for 8:30 PM! ‼️

Our next destination was Osaka Castle!!
Since we were using our Osaka Amazing Pass today,
we originally planned on taking the Gozabune Boat ride.
But we realized that if we took the boat, we'd be late for
our lunchtime reservation at the eel rice bowl restaurant. So, we skipped the boat
and changed our plans to show my parents the view from the observatory instead.
It’s been a while since my last visit, and back then,
we had to walk all the way from the subway station to Osaka Castle.
But now, you can actually pay to take a shuttle bus!
They offered a 1-day pass and a single-ride ticket.
At first, I wondered if 300 yen (about $2) per person for a single ride was a bit steep...
But once we got on, the distance was surprisingly far, so it was definitely worth it!
So, if you aren't in the mood for a long walk, I highly recommend taking the bus.
After enjoying the view from the top of Osaka Castle, we headed down.
As we were walking, I found a spot that looked like it would make a great photo,
so I had my mom and dad strike a kissing pose. It turned out so cute, I was absolutely thrilled!
So then I tried to get a sweet photo too,
but my dad clearly didn't want any of my daughterly affection 😂

We had a little time left before our eel rice bowl reservation,
so we headed over to Tsuyu-no-ten Shrine, a "shrine of love" located nearby.
I wasn't originally interested in shrines,
but I saw it on Instagram and thought,
"Wow, is there really a shrine this pretty?" so I decided to check it out.
Maybe because it's a shrine of love, everything was decorated in beautiful pinks—it was so pretty and unique!!
While we were there, I also made a wish for my mom and dad's eternal love.

that I didn't think much of the famous escalator.
But since we were using our Osaka Amazing Pass today,
we could enter the observatory for free
before 3:00 PM, so we decided to go for it.
It seems like a lot of people take photos here lately,
so I took a picture of my parents here too.
But my mom was looking a bit tired,
so we decided to cancel our plan to go to HEP FIVE
and just chill at a cafe instead... lol.
I went to buy some treats and told them to grab us a seat,

I thought it'd be a shame to come all the way to the observatory and skip the actual deck just because we were tired,
so we headed up to take some photos,
and we even managed to get some gorgeous shots on the escalator.
Honestly, when people talk about the Umeda Floating Garden,
they always post stunning photos on the escalator.
I used to wonder how they managed to get those perfect, empty shots,
but it turns out if you time it right on the way down, you can angle it
so that other people behind you aren't visible!
So, I managed to get some great shots for my mom and dad (?)
Our dinner was also a sponsored visit. Although I used to love anime and manga,
that was practically a million years ago... so I was a bit worried about my Japanese.
Surprisingly, I didn't actually need to speak much at all, and

Osaka, Japan Travel: Steakhouse Loin, a Local Teppanyaki Hotspot near Fukushima Station
Every time I come to Osaka, I always ride the Dotonbori River Cruise
using the Osaka Amazing Pass, but in the past, I only rode it because it was free.
This time, I also hopped on just because it was free,
but it ended up being an absolute blast!
Since we sat right in the front, we got to chat and joke around with the guide
(or should I call them the host?) and had so much fun.
I remember before it was just a simple explanation of the seven bridges of Dotonbori,
but this time we learned the Takoyaki Song, did the little hand dance, and sang along at the top of our lungs!
We even learned that "thank you" in Osaka
is said as "Ookini"!
It turns out the ultimate prime spot to see the Glico Man

Anyway, it was hands down the most fun experience of this entire Osaka trip.
After getting off the Dotonbori River Cruise,
we thought, "We have to grab a bite at one of the outdoor street food stalls nearby!"
Since we had decided on having "one takoyaki a day" for this trip,
we tried it at Kukuru. Next to the one near our hotel,
this was definitely our favorite takoyaki spot.
I said "Ookini" to the staff there and they absolutely loved it!!!!
They kept chatting with us, haha!
It was so much fun‼️
I heard rumors that if you pretend to shoot a finger gun at a random stranger in Osaka,
they'll pretend to get shot and dramatic-gasp "Arrgh!!"—which I never believed...
But even though it wasn't a finger gun, seeing their reaction to just one word, "Ookini",
proved that the rumors are 100% real! lol
(Even the Dotonbori River Cruise guide recognized us later and waved warmly! Hahaha)
Osaka is such a fun place.
The friendly staff made it great, but of course,
the takoyaki itself was absolutely delicious! ♥️
Since it was our last night, it felt a bit too early to head back to the hotel after takoyaki,
so we moved to another spot to grab some okonomiyaki.
Eating while looking out at the Dotonbori River made it taste even better!
After having an amazing time in Dotonbori, we were about to burst.
Still, we grabbed a few light late-night snacks at a convenience store,
bought some amenities back at the hotel,
enjoyed the hot spring bath one last time,
and then opened the dried squid we'd bought at Don Quijote in our room...
but we took one bite and threw the whole thing away.. lol

For a country famous for its bento, this bento was surprisingly tasteless..

I was super disappointed with the Kansai Airport food,
but landing back at Incheon Airport
made me realize our amazing trip was finally over, and I felt so sad.

To get tickets for popular times like 8:30 PM, it is recommended to line up and reserve them when the ticket booth opens at 10:00 AM. Since quite a few people wait even 20 minutes before 10:00 AM, it is best to arrive early.
You can take a paid bus that runs from the subway station to Osaka Castle. A one-way ticket costs 300 JPY per person. The distance is surprisingly far, so if you find walking burdensome, taking the bus is recommended.
To enter the Umeda Sky Building Kuchu Teien Observatory for free using the Osaka Amazing Pass, you must visit before 3:00 PM. The free admission benefit does not apply after this time.
In the evening, it is very crowded, and it can take a lot of time to buy souvenirs and check out. To reduce waiting time and shop comfortably, it is better to visit in the morning when it is relatively quiet.
Terminal 2 is smaller than Terminal 1, so there are fewer restaurants, prices are on the higher side, and menu items can sometimes be sold out. If you need to eat, it is recommended to grab a triangle gimbap (onigiri) or choose a dish like hashed beef rice (Hayashi rice).
