A tight 3-night, 4-day Osaka itinerary...
Should I squeeze in Universal Studios, or not?
If I'm sightseeing, don't I need an Osaka Amazing Pass?
I've planned Osaka independent travel itineraries
over 10 times – let this "Power J" (aka meticulous planner) tell you how!
With only 3 nights and 4 days, if you spread yourself across too many areas,
you'll end up spending more time traveling than actually sightseeing.

That's why for this Osaka trip,
I decided to base all three nights in Namba,
minimizing travel time by grouping activities geographically.
On check-in day, enjoy Dotonbori's night view.
And on check-out day, I've even included Namba's best eateries and a relaxing massage,
creating a packed 3-night, 4-day Osaka itinerary with no wasted time!

1. Airport Transfer to City & Osaka Accommodation Recommendations
📍 Osaka City
Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan
For this Osaka trip itinerary,
the very first thing I decided was the accommodation location.
The conclusion: I recommend staying in Namba for all 3 nights!
Except for Day 2,
all days are centered around Namba.
Osaka 3N4D Day | Itinerary |
Day 1 | Kansai Airport → Namba Hotel Check-in → Shinsaibashi Pokémon Center → Dotonbori Night View → Don Quijote |
Day 2 Option A - Universal Studios Osaka | Universal Studios Japan → Shinfukushima Station Eateries |
Day 2 Option B - Maximize Your Osaka Amazing Pass | HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel → Osaka Castle → Gozabune → Dotonbori River Cruise |
Day 3 | Namba Yasaka Shrine → Shinsaibashi Eateries → Hozenji Temple → Shiba Inu Cafe → Amerikamura → Denden Town |
Day 4 | Namba Eateries → Massage → Nankai Namba Station → Rapi:t train → Kansai Airport |
On the first day, you can immediately explore Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi,
and on the last day, it's convenient to catch the Rapi:t train from Nankai Namba Station.
Day 1: Focus on City Check-in
When you arrive at Osaka's Kansai Airport,
there are primarily two ways to get to Namba:
you can choose between the Rapi:t train or the airport limousine bus.

The Rapi:t train takes you from Kansai Airport to Nankai Namba Station
in as little as 34 minutes, getting you to the city quickly.
All seats are reserved, so you can travel comfortably.
👉 View Namba Rapi:t Booking Method & Seating Tips
Conversely, if you have large luggage or a lot of bags,
I also recommend the airport bus, which goes directly to Namba OCAT without transfers.
It takes approximately 50 minutes from Kansai Airport T1 to Namba OCAT,
and buses are quite frequent depending on the time of day.

Osaka Namba Station Accommodations: From Private Stays starting at ~$41,
to Special Offers with 40-50% Discounts!
Another reason why I recommend Namba Station!
Currently, MyRealTrip has unveiled
hotels with up to 52% discounts!

Namba Station usually boasts an excellent location, but its downside has always been the higher prices.
However, now you can find great value options, starting from around ~$41 to ~$69!

If you choose accommodation near Namba Station,
you can drop off your luggage at the hotel and head straight to the Shinsaibashi Pokémon Center
to explore!
It's located on the 9th floor of the Daimaru Shinsaibashi Main Building,
and current operating hours are from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

If your flight is delayed and you arrive in the city late,
just enjoying Dotonbori's night view and Don Quijote on your first day is more than enough!

Enjoy a delicious dinner at a Namba Station eatery,
and kick off your amazing Osaka adventure!
2. Universal Studios vs. Osaka Amazing Pass Itinerary
Osaka 3-Night, 4-Day Plan | Itinerary |
Day 2 Option A - Universal Studios Osaka | Universal Studios Japan all day → Shin-Fukushima Station Eatery |
Day 2 Option B - Maximize Your Osaka Amazing Pass | HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel → Osaka Castle → Gozabune Boat → Dotonbori River Cruise |
One of the biggest dilemmas when planning your Osaka trip itinerary is
deciding what to do on Day 2.
Will you spend the entire day at Universal Studios,
or will you use the Osaka Amazing Pass to explore multiple key attractions?
It all depends on your preference!
Comparison Chart | Universal Studios Course | Osaka Attractions Course |
Preference | Theme parks are top priority | Sightseeing is top priority |
Attractions | Focus on USJ for the day | Focus on 4 paid attractions |
Must-do | Nintendo World, Attractions | HEP FIVE, Osaka Castle, Gozabune Boat, River Cruise |
What to prepare | USJ admission ticket | Osaka Amazing Pass |
When planning your Osaka travel itinerary,
if you choose the Universal Studios course,
you can boldly skip the Osaka Amazing Pass.
If your focus is on Osaka's attractions,
it's best to use the Amazing Pass to visit as many places as possible in one day.
Option A.
USJ Osaka Universal Studios Itinerary

If you're heading to Universal Studios,
I recommend not trying to squeeze in other Osaka attractions on this day.
It's an itinerary where you enter first thing in the morning, see Nintendo World and the attractions,
and spend the entire day there until evening.
Once your travel dates are set,
after booking your hotel, check the price of Universal Studios admission tickets first!
👉 See Universal Studios insider tips
After spending a full day at USJ,
I also recommend heading to Fukushima Station via the Osaka Loop Line for dinner.
If you include an eatery near Shin-Fukushima Station, which was one of the most delicious places I visited on this trip,
your dinner plans after the theme park will flow naturally.

Option B.
Osaka Amazing Pass Itinerary
Don't love amusement parks?
Or want to see more of Osaka's must-visit spots than just Universal Studios?
Then use the Osaka Amazing Pass!

With the Amazing Pass, you can visit both the Main Tower and the Toyotomi Stone Wall Museum on the same day.

Total if using 4 places individually: 6,000 yen

👉 Book your Osaka Amazing Pass here
Here's a truly crucial insider tip!
If your accommodation is in Namba, in the morning at Dotonbori,
secure your evening river cruise boarding time first,
then head to HEP FIVE!
Honestly, if you try to maximize your Amazing Pass
by adding more attractions, there's no end to it.
Rather than trying to squeeze in 7-8 places,
just taking pictures and immediately moving on to the next
Osaka attraction,
I recommend truly enjoying about 4 places.
3. Osaka Must-Visits Where You Don't Need a Travel Pass
Day 3: Namba & Shinsaibashi Itinerary
Osaka 4-Day Itinerary | Schedule |
Day 3 | Namba Yasaka Shrine → Shinsaibashi Restaurants → Hozenji Temple → Shiba Inu Cafe → Amerikamura → Denden Town |
On the third day, you can actually forget about wanting to use a pass.
Namba and Shinsaibashi have so many amazing places to visit
that are all within walking distance!

My recommended Osaka itinerary is:
Namba Yasaka Shrine → Shinsaibashi Lunch → Pokémon Center Osaka DX
→ Amerikamura → Hozenji Temple → Dotonbori → Mameshiba Cafe → Denden Town
It might look like a lot,
but this itinerary groups together places that are close to each other,
so it's not as packed as you might think.
If you couldn't make it to the Pokémon Center on your first day due to your flight schedule,
you can explore it leisurely on this day.
Hozenji Temple and Dotonbori are also practically next to each other.

One of my absolute favorite spots in Osaka,
the Mameshiba Shiba Inu Cafe, is also in Dotonbori,
making it a perfect place to take a break while shopping.
👉 Check out my Mameshiba Shiba Inu Cafe review!
In Amerikamura, enjoy shopping and cafes;
in Dotonbori, see the Glico Man and indulge in street food;
and in Denden Town, you'll find figures and anime shops!
This is exactly why, when I plan my Osaka free travel itineraries,
I always make sure to combine Namba and Shinsaibashi into one day.
What about the final Day 4?
Osaka 4-Day Itinerary | Schedule |
Day 4 | Namba Restaurant → Massage → Nankai Namba Station → Limited Express Rapi:t → Kansai Airport |
When planning your Osaka travel itinerary, it's far less tiring to group attractions that are within walking distance
rather than trying to cram in as many sights as possible.
For your last day, focusing on the Namba area is a great idea.

If there's anything you didn't get to see on Day 3,
you can always add one more spot to your Day 4 morning!
Otherwise, you can have a relaxed lunch at a great Namba restaurant,
enjoy a massage near Dotonbori,
then simply walk to Nankai Namba Station and take the Rapi:t train to the airport!

4. Smart Tips for Booking Transport & SIM Cards in Advance at a Discount
Once your Osaka free travel flight dates are set,
it's time to check off what you need to prepare in advance from home.
✅ Osaka Hotel
✅ Kansai Airport Limousine Bus or Rapi:t
✅ Universal Studios Japan or Osaka Amazing Pass
✅ Osaka Metro 26-Hour Pass, if needed
✅ Japan SIM card or eSIM
What I absolutely recommend, in particular, is the
Osaka Metro 26-Hour Pass!

You can book this for around ~$7.
From the moment you activate it, you can use all Osaka Metro lines
for exactly 26 hours.
Unlike a typical one-day pass that expires at the end of the calendar day,
its advantage is that it's great to use even on days when you start your travel later.
👉 Check out smart tips for the Osaka Subway 26-Hour Pass!
For SIM cards or eSIMs, I recommend getting them set up in Korea
rather than buying them after you arrive.

From the moment you arrive at the airport,
you'll constantly be checking maps, transportation QR codes, and hotel locations.

This article recommends staying in Namba for all three nights. Namba offers easy access to Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi on the first day, and convenient access to Nankai Namba Station for the Rapi:t train on the last day. Additionally, basing your itinerary in Namba allows you to efficiently group your travel routes by area.
If you use the Osaka Amazing Pass on Day 2, the four recommended spots are the HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel, Osaka Castle Main Tower, Osaka Castle Gozabune Boat, and Dotonbori River Cruise. Individually, these four places would cost a total of 6,000 yen, but with a 1-day Osaka Amazing Pass (3,500 yen), you can save 2,500 yen.
The two main ways to get from Kansai Airport to Namba are the Rapi:t train and the airport limousine bus. The Rapi:t takes approximately 34 minutes to Nankai Namba Station, while the airport limousine bus takes about 50 minutes to Namba OCAT.
For the third day, we recommend the following route: Namba Yasaka Shrine, Shinsaibashi restaurants, Hozenji Temple, Shiba Inu Cafe, Amerikamura, and Denden Town. These places are close to each other and can be reached on foot. The Shinsaibashi Pokemon Center, which you might have missed due to a flight delay on the first day, can also be visited at your leisure on this day.
The HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel costs 1,000 yen, Osaka Castle Main Tower costs 1,200 yen, Osaka Castle Gozabune costs 1,800 yen, and the Dotonbori River Cruise costs 2,000 yen. If you visit these four places individually, a total of 6,000 yen will be required.
