If you're heading to Japan for the first time, people will tell you to absolutely go to Osaka —
that's how easy it is to travel in Osaka!
Tourist spots are bustling with Koreans,
and most restaurants even have Korean menus as a standard!
This time, during what might be a short 3-night, 4-day trip,
I'm going to introduce an itinerary focused on the **absolute must-visit spots**.
I'll also include **discount codes and the best price links** for each destination
**attached in the main body of the post**!
Dotonbori
An Osaka trip usually kicks off with a photo op in front of the iconic Glico Man sign,
the symbol of Dotonbori Street.
People typically take photos from the bridge, but it gets incredibly crowded,
so you really need to put in some effort to get a great shot! Haha.
There's also the River Cruise or Wonder Cruise, which takes you around Dotonbori Street for about 20 minutes by boat.
If you have some time, it's definitely worth giving it a try!
The staff are energetic and give you plenty of time for photos in front of the Glico Man sign.
Dotonbori Street is absolutely packed with amazing restaurants!
There are tons of great spots, especially for Okonomiyaki and Yakisoba.
I personally recommend Sakaba 0 or Momiji!
Don Quijote has two locations here, but the Dotonbori branch is
extremely, *extremely* crowded.
Since my itinerary took me to Umeda on day 2,
I was able to shop relatively leisurely at the Umeda branch.
Osaka Castle
If it's your first time in Osaka, the castle is definitely worth a visit.
However, I **don't recommend going inside the castle itself**.
The observatory views are obstructed by netting, so you can't really see much,
and there's just one museum, which isn't particularly impressive...
But if it's **cherry blossom season**, it's an **absolute must-visit spot** for photos!
There are tons of parks near the castle, perfect for taking incredible photos with the cherry blossoms in full bloom.
After visiting Osaka Castle, I headed straight to Umeda.
The Umeda area also boasts many tourist attractions,
and it's a great base for visiting Kyoto.
First up, I grabbed a quick lunch at Ichiran Ramen's Umeda branch,
one of the 'Big Three' ramen spots, known to be a real crowd-pleaser!
Umeda Sky Building Floating Garden Observatory
My first stop for sightseeing was the Sky Building Observatory.
You can enjoy panoramic views of Osaka from its 40-story height.
I went during the day, but going at night to see the
**night view is truly so much prettier!**
Tickets need to be booked separately,
but if you have the Osaka Amazing Pass, it's free until 3 PM!

HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel
One of the iconic landmarks symbolizing Umeda,
is the vibrant red Ferris wheel, HEP FIVE!
If you have the Osaka Amazing Pass, you can ride this for free too!
The Ferris wheel is located on the 8th floor of the Hankyu Shopping Mall, which also boasts amazing restaurants
and plenty of shopping, making it a fantastic place to explore.
There's even a Disney Store,
and a cafe where the concept changes regularly.
When I visited, it was a Detective Conan-themed cafe!

The Don Quijote Umeda store is also impressively large,
so if the Dotonbori branch feels too crowded,
I highly recommend doing your shopping here instead.

Universal Studios, Solaniwa Onsen
If you're planning a visit to Universal Studios Japan,
you'll need to set aside an entire day in your itinerary.
With so many attractions to enjoy, like Super Nintendo World, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and Donkey Kong Country,
and notoriously long wait times,
it's impossible to see and do everything in just one day.
To enter Super Nintendo World, you don't just need a regular admission ticket;
you'll also need a timed entry ticket, which can be quite complex to secure.
I've detailed all the relevant information in the post linked above,
so if you're planning to include Universal Studios
in your itinerary, be sure to check it out!
After leaving Universal Studios late in the afternoon,
we headed to the nearby Solaniwa Onsen.
It's right near the studio, so most people
tend to visit this spot in the evening.
Beyond the hot springs and outdoor baths, they've set up numerous photo zones throughout the facility,
making it perfect for snapping some memorable pictures.
It's currently discount season, so you can purchase tickets
at a much more affordable price than usual.

Kyoto Day Trip
If Universal Studios isn't really your thing,
or if the Umeda area doesn't pique your interest,
I also recommend heading straight to Kyoto instead.
I went on a day trip using a bus tour, and even though it was a tour,
it felt as comfortable as a solo trip,
allowing for plenty of leisurely sightseeing!
There was ample personal time and a high degree of flexibility.

so if you plan your itinerary well, you're sure to have a highly satisfying trip.

The Dotonbori branch is very crowded, so if you want a relatively relaxed shopping experience, we recommend using the Don Quijote Umeda branch. The Umeda branch is also quite large.
