Maximize Every Moment in Osaka, Including Universal Studios Japan
Ready for an unforgettable 3-day adventure in Osaka? We're sharing our action-packed itinerary that squeezed in as much eating, shopping, and fun as possible, including a full day at Universal Studios Japan!
1. Your Osaka 3-Day Itinerary at a Glance
📍 Osaka City
Osaka Prefecture, Japan

When I was planning my Osaka trip, finding amazing restaurants was my top priority. As you can see from my map, most of my saved spots are eateries! Of course, with just 3 days and 4 nights, I couldn't hit them all, but I certainly tried.
2. Preparing for Osaka & Day 1: A Taste of KALDI!

📌 From Your City to Osaka – Sushi Hiro – Takoyaki – KALDI
Before jetting off to Japan, there are a few essentials I always make sure to book in advance:
These four items are pretty much essential to sort out beforehand.
I highly recommend booking your USJ tickets as soon as your travel dates are set. The others you can often book even the day before your trip.

After arriving in Osaka and smoothly taking the Nankai Rapi:t Airport Express, our first meal was at Sushi Hiro. I highly, highly recommend this spot for an affordable omakase experience. This was a personal expense, not sponsored, and I was so impressed by their friendly service and delicious sushi.
We went straight from the airport with our luggage, and they kindly stored it for us.
After savoring some delicious takoyaki, my absolute must-do for Day 1 was visiting KALDI!

A seasoned traveler's tip I always follow:
When people recommend local food items, I try them as soon as possible in the destination. This helps me decide if I want to buy them to take home, and if so, how much. That way, the joy of the trip lasts long after I return! 😄
Even though our first day was incredibly packed, I rushed to KALDI, picked up a few recommended items to try, and then returned later to buy more. I also planned to visit a local supermarket, but it was too late by the time I got there, and I didn't get to browse as much as I wanted. A bit of a regret!
3. Day 2: Conquering Osaka with the Osaka Amazing Pass

📌 Dotonbori Boat Reservation – Osaka Castle – Sukiyaki – Umeda Station – Izumo Unagi – Bic Camera – Boat Ride – Okonomiyaki – Don Quijote
On Day 2, I made full use of my 1-day Osaka Amazing Pass and really packed in the sightseeing! I had actually tried to book the Dotonbori boat cruise online beforehand, but I was too late, and all my preferred time slots were gone.
This forced me to get same-day tickets, which completely threw off my morning schedule. Live and learn, right?

If I had booked in advance, I would have visited Osaka Castle first thing in the morning. Instead, I only got to see Osaka Castle from the outside before heading off for sukiyaki. Food always wins!
This sukiyaki spot is a local favorite with long waits if you don't "open run" it, so if you're planning to go, aim to be there right when they open!

Our next culinary stop, Izumo Unagi, was in the Umeda area, so we headed there and did a bit of department store browsing around Umeda Station.
I popped into LUSH and bought a few items. LUSH products are often more affordable in Japan, so if there's anything you use regularly, it's definitely worth checking out!
Then, we indulged in the Instagram-famous Izumo Unagi for some incredibly delicious eel donburi.

We then made our way back to the Namba area and visited Bic Camera, where I picked up some whiskey! Bic Camera has an amazing selection of whiskies and other spirits – if you're looking to buy alcohol, it's a must-visit.

After all that walking, we enjoyed a relaxing Dotonbori boat cruise to give our legs a break before finishing the day with some okonomiyaki and a shopping spree at Don Quijote. With the Osaka Amazing Pass, I made sure to take the subway even for short distances.
Even with all the subway rides, I still managed to walk over 8 miles that day!
4. A Full Day at Universal Studios Japan, Then Heading Home

📌 Universal Studios Japan – Sake Bar
My number one reason for wanting to visit Osaka was, without a doubt, Universal Studios Japan! I purchased the Express Pass 5 in advance and had an absolutely incredible day. It was so much fun and truly magical, but my legs felt like jelly by the end of it! If you're planning a trip to USJ, learn from my mistake: don't have such a demanding itinerary the day before. Your legs will thank you!

After a full day of excitement, we wound down at a sake bar near our accommodation. It was a fantastic experience for trying different sakes, and the food was delicious too!

We successfully wrapped up our trip, and the next day, I hauled all my shopping treasures back home, even paying extra for baggage fees! (Worth it!)
So, what do you think of my jam-packed 3-day Osaka adventure? Personally, my only regret is that I didn't have even more time! My planning was pretty solid, with just one major hiccup:
Ah, yes! Not booking the Dotonbori boat cruise in advance! 😭 Please, everyone, learn from my mistake and book ahead to save yourself some precious travel time!
It's essential to prepare four things in advance: airport express train tickets, an eSIM, USJ tickets, and the Osaka Amazing Pass. Book USJ tickets as early as possible, while the others can be booked the day before your trip.
For the first day, the author recommended Sushi Hiro as a cost-effective omakase. They mentioned it was self-funded, friendly, and offered luggage storage upon arrival.
The author regretted not being able to book the Dotonbori boat in advance from Korea, which meant they couldn't ride at their desired time and had to book on-site. This significantly disrupted their morning schedule.
The author recommended visiting Bic Camera. They mentioned that Bic Camera had a wide variety of alcoholic beverages, including whiskey.
