Osaka 3-Day Itinerary 2026: Budget-Friendly Guide
Planning a 3-day trip to Osaka in 2026? Discover this budget-friendly itinerary featuring Namba hotel tips, local eats, and airport transfer guides.

Osaka! My very first trip to Japan this year!
Even though it was a quick 3-day, 2-night getaway, since it was a self-guided trip,
I made sure to pack all the iconic sights into our schedule.
I'll share everything from my actual 3-day route
to a few spots I originally planned but couldn't quite make it to,
along with my personal recommendations!
For the full budget breakdown, be sure to check the end of the post!
Day 1 Itinerary
Kansai Airport - Namba Station - Hotel Check-in - Glico Sign
- Okonomiyaki Spot - Tombori River Cruise

To start off, your very first stop on an Osaka trip
will likely be Kansai International Airport. Getting from the airport to downtown
usually comes down to three choices: the Rapi:t Express Train,
the local express subway, or the airport limousine bus.

I really didn't want to drag my heavy bags all over the place,
so I opted for the airport limousine bus.
The driver loads all your luggage for you, making it super comfortable and hassle-free.
It took about 50 minutes to reach Namba Station.
How to book the Limousine Bus⬆
After getting off the limousine bus, we walked for about 10 minutes
and checked into the Arrow Hotel.
While this place is a bit dated, the room rate was only ~$51,
making it incredibly affordable—and it even comes with free breakfast!
Honestly, when it comes to value for money in Osaka, this place is hard to beat.
However, like most budget hotels in Osaka,
the room size is very compact. Once you open up a single suitcase,
moving around gets a little tricky!

After checking in, we headed out to see the iconic Glico Man sign.
Since we went out late in the evening, the area was packed
with tourists all trying to snap their photos.
For dinner, we stopped by a famous okonomiyaki restaurant in Namba
to treat ourselves to savory okonomiyaki and stir-fried yakisoba.
Although the wait is typically at least 40 minutes,
the mouthwatering food made every single minute worth it!
If you've ever thought okonomiyaki wasn't your thing,
you MUST try this place. It will seriously change your mind!

After dinner, we hopped on the Tombori River Cruise
and cruised down the Dotonbori River for 20 minutes to soak in the glowing city lights.
This was the perfect way to wrap up our Day 1 itinerary.
You can reserve tickets for the river cruise in advance,
or simply buy them on-site.
Day 2 Itinerary
Osaka Castle - Shinsaibashi Daimaru Department Store
- Hotel Check-out & Check-in - Ramen Lunch Spot
- HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel - Don Quijote Shopping
- Solaniwa Onsen - Tonkatsu Dinner Spot

On the morning of Day 2, we headed straight to Osaka Castle as soon as we woke up.
Since it's widely considered the #1 must-visit landmark in Osaka,
it’s likely already on the bucket list for anyone planning a trip here.
How to get to Osaka Castle + Shuttle Bus review⬇

After spending about 2 hours exploring Osaka Castle,
I headed over to the Shinsaibashi Daimaru Department Store.
This place is super famous for its Disney Cafe and Pokemon Cafe.
Unfortunately, the Pokemon Cafe requires booking tickets
months in advance, so I wasn't able to secure a spot this time.
But even if you can't visit the Pokemon Cafe,
Daimaru Department Store itself is absolutely massive,
making it a fantastic place to wander around and shop!
After checking out of my Namba hotel, I headed over to the Umeda area
and checked into my second hotel.
Even though it's a 4-star hotel, the room rate was only around ~$96,
and the service and room size were absolutely fantastic.
For lunch, I stopped by one of Osaka's top three ramen spots,
Ippudo Ramen!
A lot of travelers swear by Ichiran Ramen,
but I wanted to visit a spot that's more popular with the locals.
So, I went with Ippudo. It was a bit on the salty side, but absolutely delicious!

The famous HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel and Don Quijote Umeda are
just a 1-minute walk apart, so I did my Don Quijote shopping right here in Umeda.
Carrying heavy shopping bags around can be exhausting,
so I highly recommend saving your big Don Quijote haul
for the night before you head back home!

The final stop of Day 2 was Solaniwa Onsen.
It's so much more than just a hot spring—there are gorgeous photo zones, live performances,
and a beautifully landscaped rooftop garden!
It's the absolute best place to soothe your muscles after a long day of walking.
Since it's quite close to Universal Studios Japan,
if you have some wiggle room on your third day,
I'd highly recommend heading here in the evening
right after your action-packed day at USJ!

Day 3 Itinerary
Local Sushi Breakfast - Universal Studios Japan
- Depart from Osaka Kansai International Airport (KIX)
I kicked off the morning of Day 3 at Endo Sushi, a legendary Osaka sushi spot.
It's a historic, 100-year-old restaurant beloved mostly by locals, and
I heard that if you go around lunchtime, you'll face long lines and might even miss out entirely because they run out of ingredients, so I made sure to head there early in the morning!
Honestly, this was hands down the absolute best sushi I have ever had in my life.
Dragging my tired body out of bed so early was 100% worth the effort!

Universal Studios Japan is so massive and packed with so many incredible things to see that you really need to dedicate an entire day to fully enjoy it.
Since our flight back was around lunchtime on the final day, we sadly had to skip it. But if you have an evening flight or are planning a trip to Osaka for 4 days or more, you absolutely must visit!

The Don Quijote Umeda store is just a 1-minute walk from the HEP FIVE Ferris Wheel, making it a great place to visit right after the ride. Considering heavy luggage, it is recommended to do your shopping on the evening of the second day, the day before your return flight.
