When planning a trip to Onomichi,
it seems like most people
visit just for a day trip.
But for me, I skipped downtown Hiroshima entirely
and used Onomichi as my base
to explore the surrounding islands!
The home base I chose was none other than
the Green Hill Hotel right in front of JR Onomichi Station!
Here is my completely honest, self-funded review.
Let's go!

⭐️ Google Rating: 4.1 (1,018 reviews) ✔️ Prime Location 🚶♀️ 2–3 minute walk 💳 Price: From ~$63 |
🎐
Why you'll love this hotel:
① Just a 2 to 3-minute walk from JR Onomichi Station |
② The ferry terminal is right downstairs, making island hopping super easy |
③ Ocean-view rooms are available |
④ Friendly and helpful staff |
Green Hill Hotel Onomichi
(Green Hill Hotel Onomichi)
Above all, the biggest perk is the location!
It's just a 2 to 3-minute walk from the station,
and the ground floor is actually a
ferry terminal—such a unique setup!

I traveled from Hiroshima Airport through Mihara
to visit Okunoshima (Rabbit Island),
and then took a ferry to Onomichi.
Stepping right off the boat and directly into my hotel
felt so cool and convenient!
It almost felt like taking a boat into Boracay
and arriving straight at an island resort! haha

The bathroom was spotless, and the water pressure was great—super satisfying!
As you can see in the photos,
the room came fully stocked with all the basic amenities.

The View

Room Types
✔︎ View: City View / Bay View (Waterside/Harbor)
✔︎ Bed: Double / Twin
🛏 Room Booking Info |
Booked: Waterside Semi-Double Room |
Stayed in: Deluxe Twin Room (Harbor View) |

This was the room I originally booked...
But the room I actually got assigned was the Deluxe Twin Room (Harbor View)!

The price for the room had dropped a bit,
so I cancelled and rebooked it.
But maybe there was some kind of system glitch?
When I went to check in, they told me my booking wasn't for an ocean view (harbor/bay view) room!
The staff double-checked everything,
realized there was a mix-up on their end,
and upgraded me to an even better room!
Talk about a lucky break! 🍀

So, the room I actually stayed in was the
Deluxe Twin Room (Harbor View)
This room had two large windows,
and both of them offered gorgeous views of the sea!

The room was also incredibly spacious! haha

They even had a Dyson hair dryer!

I wasn't trying to snoop,
but as I walked past some other rooms that were being cleaned
with their doors open,
I got a peek at what I think was my original room choice—
the Waterside Semi Room.
The interior design looked pretty similar,
but it definitely felt a bit more compact!

In the mini-fridge, they provided two complimentary bottles of mineral water
and a local specialty from Innoshima (an island right off the coast of Onomichi)—
some delicious
Hassaku Jellies!
*Hassaku: A citrus fruit native to Japan.

The lobby itself wasn't huge, but it was cozy and perfectly fine for a quick transition.
Since this area is world-famous for the Shimanami Kaido cycling route, they even have a dedicated space to park your bicycles!
I couldn't get a photo of it, but there are actually massage chairs on every single floor!
