My recent 2-day trip to Jinju felt less like a vacation and more like a dedicated food pilgrimage!
Surprisingly, I found myself drawn to bakeries far more often than cafes, a complete switch from my usual travel habits.
And topping my list of must-visit spots was Olki Bakery, one of Jinju's most celebrated local bakeries. Come along for the delicious details!💜

I really wanted to capture the front of the bakery, but the stream of customers constantly entering and exiting this charming little shop made it impossible! I could only snap a picture from the side.
While Jinju has a few famous bakeries that tourists frequent, Olki Bakery felt different. The crowd here seemed to be mostly locals, which is always a great sign!

Inside Olki Bakery: A Look at Their Delicious Bread Lineup
The shop itself is quite modest and compact – what you see is truly what you get. Yet, the bread selection is anything but simple; each loaf looks substantial and bursting with flavor! ‼️
I didn't manage to get there right at opening, so many popular items were already sold out!
In the back, you can see the busy workspace where all the magic happens.
The baskets with tongs were adorable, and the vibrant, colorful posters throughout the shop really caught my eye.
Look at this long Nunettine! 〰️〰️ I used to eat so much of this when I was younger, it brings back such nostalgic memories! (Cue a "Reply 1988" vibe, for those who know!)
And how cute is this Gromit doll, holding a baguette, guarding the counter? 👩🍳 So charming!
The Baguette Campagne was fantastic! The price was excellent for its generous size, and you could tell at a glance how abundant the ingredients were.
And the Olki Sandwich? It wasn't just plain bread; it was made with flaky, delicious layers of pastry!
They also had cakes, puddings, and cream breads, but since I was constantly on the move, I decided to pass on anything that needed refrigeration.
However, the Cream Ggaechal-ppang (Cream Sesame Bread) looked perfect for eating on the go, so I grabbed one!
The bread names here are absolutely adorable and witty!
They have "Mom's Bulgogi Baguette" and "Imja Tteok Baguette."
I initially wondered if "Imja" meant something like 'owner' or 'acorn', but it turns out it's from "Heuk-imja" (black sesame)! Haha!
And then there's "Jolamanuel"! ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
It's a clever combination of Gorgonzola cheese and garlic (maneul in Korean). It feels like the owner is so friendly with the bread, they're on a first-name basis! I loved that sense of familiarity! ✌🏻
Even though a line formed at the counter, it actually gave me more time to calmly browse all the delicious breads – so I guess it was a good thing!
They even kindly sliced the bread for me.
I ended up buying the Myeongnan Gamja (Pollack Roe Potato Bread) and the Ggaechal-ppang (Sesame Bread), and they were so incredibly delicious that I completely forgot to take pictures before devouring them!
The Ggaechal-ppang had a sweet, creamy custard filling with a wonderfully nutty sesame flavor. The Myeongnan Gamja was slightly spicy, perfectly complemented by the hearty potato🥔 – making it an ideal meal replacement! ‼️
