What to Bring & Precautions

Most of the necessary gear is provided by the tour operator
✔ Clothing (jacket, pants)
✔ Boots, socks
✔ Warm Gloves
✔ Bag, Crampons, Poles
During the training session,
the guide will kindly show you how to wear them.

Things I Recommend Bringing Personally
✔ Sunglasses
✔ Gloves

The shoes you wore upon arrival
can be stored in the tour group's communal lockers.

I only wore a zip-up fleece and chino pants,
but they lent me a jacket and a warm jacket, so I stayed warm the whole time.
The sunlight reflecting off the glacier was incredibly intense,
so sunglasses are an absolute must!
*No jeans allowed
Glacier Field Review
Just riding the helicopter itself
is already a unique experience.
Don't worry if you don't get a window seat
on the way to the glacier.
They'll switch you to a window seat on the way back,
so just board in order according to the instructions.

The scenery that unfolds as soon as you step off the helicopter is simply unreal.
To think I could actually stand on the glacier itself,
after seeing it from below...
it was an emotional moment that might never come again in my lifetime.

After arriving at the glacier, we learned how to put on the spikes (crampons)
and followed the guide.

Our first spot was the ice cave.
Seeing the transparency of the glacier, accumulated over hundreds and thousands of years,
with my own eyes left me speechless.
They even give you time to take photos as you go around.

As we moved, we also got to experience an echo in the crevasse area,

and also explored a glacier spot with an open ceiling.
You can only move to the areas where the guide directs you.
The ice felt much heavier and harder than I expected,
making it truly feel like I was standing on a glacier.

One thing that felt a little sad was that
due to global warming, the glacier is melting quite a lot.
The guide explained that even the cave spots are undergoing renovations.
It really made me feel that it's important to visit while you still can.

Based on my visit in May, as the glacier was melting,
quite a bit of water was dripping.
However, since I was wearing waterproof gear,
it wasn't a major inconvenience.
