Hello, I'm Ciel, your travel influencer!
I've always dreamed of bringing my parents here to witness their hilarious reactions to these wild, yet friendly, creatures. Today, I'm thrilled to share my review of "Nara Deer Park" – a dream that finally came true when I visited with my family!

What is Nara Deer Park?
Nara Deer Park is a quintessential attraction in Nara, Japan, famous for its population of approximately 1,300-1,400 wild deer that roam freely throughout the park. Here, you can get up close and personal with these gentle animals, touch them (respectfully, of course!), and even feed them special 'senbei' crackers, creating truly unique interactions.

Considering a Bus Tour? I recommend Rakutour!
And why do I recommend it? Because I experienced it myself and was thoroughly impressed!
My parents also loved our guide, Natto-chan!
While navigating from Osaka on your own isn't overly difficult, if you're already traveling, why not explore Kyoto alongside Nara? A bus tour is a fantastic way to see both, which is why I highly recommend it.

The moment you arrive at Nara Deer Park, you'll be greeted by deer everywhere!
They gracefully wander among visitors, even taking leisurely naps amidst the bustling crowds.
We truly encountered countless deer during our visit.
Why Are There So Many Deer in Nara Park?

You might wonder why so many deer roam freely through Nara's streets and parks.
The answer lies in Nara's deep cultural belief: deer are considered messengers of the gods.
According to the legend of Kasuga Taisha Shrine, a deity descended to Nara riding a white deer during the Nara period.
Since then, deer have been revered as sacred beings serving the gods.
This profound respect meant people never harmed them, allowing the deer population to thrive under protection.
Today, approximately 1,300-1,400 deer live freely in Nara Park.
They aren't just wild animals; they are living symbols of Nara, carrying centuries of faith and legend.
How to Get (Intense) Love from the Deer!

✨️ The secret? Feeding them senbei crackers! ✨️
You'll find vendors selling these special crackers throughout the park for just ~$1 per pack!
Each pack contains about 10 crackers, which is usually plenty for a fun interaction!
A word to the wise: once you buy your senbei, quickly hide them! ✨️
If you're not careful, the deer will snatch them in a flash!

Holding senbei reveals the deer's true, less-than-subtle nature – they'll practically mob you! Haha.
I'd hoped to capture my parents hilariously running from the deer, but they were surprisingly calm... though Mom did get a little startled!
✨️ Regardless, I had a blast capturing their joyful moments being 'chased' by our furry friends. ✨️

If you don't have senbei, you can still snap photos with individual deer!
Just be quick – once they realize you're out of treats, they'll likely move on, so act fast! Haha.

I almost missed getting a cute deer picture while filming my parents, but then I found this adorable shot in my gallery ❤️
This little deer has a wet nose just like my beloved pet, Lotto-ko! 🦌
Tips for Taking Adorable Photos with the Deer!
For the cutest deer photos, try holding a senbei cracker above the photographer's head.
This often makes the deer look straight at the camera, resulting in some truly charming shots!
The video below is an example of a *slightly* less successful attempt at getting a cute deer photo...
My mom just waved at it! Haha.
💗 But my mom is adorable, so I'm sharing it anyway! 💗
Why You Should Visit Nara Deer Park Between June and September

You might be wondering about visiting Nara Deer Park in the summer, concerned about the heat and potential smells from the deer droppings.
When I visited in June, I honestly didn't notice any strong smells, though it was certainly warm!
However, June through September is the birthing season for fawns, so if you're hoping to see those incredibly cute baby deer, I highly recommend planning your visit during these months.

✔︎ Nara Deer Park: My Osaka Day Trip Review
