Nagoya is on a whole different level!
Why, you ask?
Because you can see those incredibly rare orcas
right up close!
For those who thought, 'Why go to an aquarium all the way in Japan?'

2. Orca vs. Dolphin? Show Review & Best Seats Recommendation

Once you're inside the aquarium, don't get sidetracked by anything else;
your first mission is to race straight to the stadium!

Why? Because the star attractions, the orcas and dolphins,
have set show times!
Show Type | 1st Show | 2nd Show | 3rd Show | Notes |
Orca Public Training | 12:00 | 14:30 | - | Only Twice a Day! You'll regret missing it! |
Dolphin Performance | 11:00 | 13:00 | 15:30 | Held at the Main Stadium |
Show times can slightly vary depending on the aquarium's daily schedule or season.
As soon as you enter, snapping a photo of the
'Today's Events' signboard at the entrance
with your phone is the most accurate way to get the latest info!
I arrived for the 11 AM dolphin show,
and even 30 minutes before it started, it was already quite full.

Here's Ssoejini's Tip!
The main center seats are great for seeing the screen clearly,
but if you truly want to feel the mighty presence of the killer whales,
aim for the side sections.

Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between the two...
I saw the beluga and exclaimed, "It's a dolphin!"
and my friend quietly told me to "Shhh..." haha.
Make sure you do your research beforehand so you can
impress anyone, whether it's kids or your significant other, with your knowledge, right?
Anyway, my dream is to swim with dolphins,
and just watching them, I thought, "Wow, this is true happiness!"
Especially when the killer whales greeted us by spouting water,
even as an adult, I couldn't help but exclaim, "Wow!"
3. Recommended Must-See Sights at Nagoya Port Aquarium

Those of you who just watch the killer whale and dolphin shows and then quickly leave...
Nagoya Port Aquarium is divided into the North Building and the South Building.
While the North Building focuses on spectacular performances,
the South Building is a treasure trove of experiences where you can truly feel like you're
journeying through the ocean depths.
I'll share the three hidden gems that I discovered firsthand and thought,
"You absolutely HAVE to see this!"

Sardine Tornado (South Building)
Tens of thousands of sardines, illuminated by light,
create a giant whirlpool in the
'Sardine Tornado' — it's truly a spectacular sight!
It's like a galaxy has descended into the ocean!
You're guaranteed to get a once-in-a-lifetime photo here.

Penguin Village: Antarctic Sea
Don't miss the penguin exhibit, which perfectly recreates
an Antarctic environment.
The penguins here are exceptionally active, and you can see them
'flying' (?) through the water.
Both kids and adults find it hard to tear themselves away from this spot.

Mysteries of the Deep Sea Touch Pool
There's also an interactive zone where you can directly touch marine creatures.
It's perfect for engaging with kids as you explore starfish and even small sharks (?).
Of course, don't forget to wash your hands immediately afterward at the nearby sinks!

Worried about getting lost?
The Nagoya subway is similar to Korea's Line 2...
It's simpler than you think!

If you look at the Nagoya subway map,
the purple line (Meijo Line) is a loop line, which might seem confusing,
but from either 'Kanayama' Station or
'Sakae' Station,
just take the train marked 'Nagoya-ko' direction.
Just like catching a connecting train,
simply confirm the direction and you're all set!
Each station has a number,
but all you need to remember is E07 (Nagoya-ko Station)!
Ssoejini's Bonus Tip
Nagoya Must-Visits

After you've finished exploring the aquarium,
right in front of you, you'll find the massive
Sea Train Land Ferris Wheel and
the Antarctic Observation Ship Fuji.
If you have extra time, grabbing a combined ticket
to explore them all together is also a great option!

Especially if you ride the Ferris wheel at sunset,
you'll get a breathtaking panoramic view of Nagoya Port –
it's an absolutely fantastic spot for a date
and a highly recommended itinerary for family trips~!
Wishing you a happy trip to Nagoya!
I'll be back soon with more Nagoya travel destination recommendations :)
