History
Narai-juku is a prominent post town from the Edo period,
located along the route connecting Tokyo and Kyoto.
It served as a crucial resting point before crossing the challenging 'Torii Pass,'
and was so prosperous with inns and shops that it was known as 'Narai of a Thousand Houses.'
Even today, there are many shops and charming traditional accommodations,
making it a great place to stay overnight if you're on a longer trip.

Our Visit Experience
The main street of Narai-juku truly begins right in front of the station.
From the moment we stepped in, the unique Edo-period wooden buildings
created an incredibly atmospheric setting.

Along the way, there were small shops and snack vendors,
and true to Japan, many of the souvenirs were surprisingly high quality,
so we spent a long time browsing.

We visited around lunchtime,
and because many of the restaurants are small compared to the number of visitors,
there was a bit of a wait.
If you're planning to have a meal in Narai-juku,
it might be better to aim for an early or late lunch
to avoid the crowds.

The truly delicious wasabi leaf soba restaurant we tried
will be shared in detail in our next post!
