So, for my recent trip to Nagoya, Japan, I'm excited to share a clear and concise guide on **how I traveled from Chubu Centrair International Airport to Nagoya City (Nagoya Station/Sakae)**.
If you're planning a trip to Nagoya, this post will definitely be a huge help!
👉 **My recommended way to travel is the Meitetsu Limited Express (either the μ-SKY or a regular Limited Express reserved seat). But if you have plenty of time, taking the Meitetsu Local train doesn't make a huge difference in travel time.**

📍 Departure Point: Nagoya Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO)
Chubu Centrair International Airport is
an artificial island airport built on the sea
south of Nagoya.
From the airport, you can reach Nagoya's city center,
Nagoya Station, in about 35-40 minutes by Limited Express train,
which is a huge advantage as it means much less travel fatigue
compared to Osaka or Tokyo!

Whenever I travel from Chubu Centrair International Airport to the city, I always opt for the **Meitetsu Line train**.

Using the Limited Express, you can get to Nagoya Station directly, without any transfers,
and especially if you book a reserved seat in advance, you can comfortably store your heavy luggage,
making it a much more pleasant experience than taking the subway.

These days, it's become super convenient to board with a mobile QR code or an exchange voucher.
Travel Tip
When heading from the airport to the city, taking the fastest Limited Express train is often the best choice for speed,
but when traveling from the city back to the airport, it's perfectly fine to use a local (ordinary) train.

As a traveler, I naturally ended up arriving earlier than my train's scheduled departure.
When I got there about 15 minutes early,
a local train had already arrived.
Since the μ-SKY and Limited Express trains have a 30-minute interval,
it's a good idea to check the schedule carefully when booking! 😉
Realistically, there's only a
10-15 minute difference in arrival times, so
if you depart 10 minutes earlier on a local train?
You'll arrive at the same time as the express...

If you're a traveler who likes to arrive well in advance,
taking a local train might not be a bad option after all.
[Comparison Table: Transportation Options from Airport to Nagoya Station]
Essentially, the μ-SKY and Meitetsu Limited Express
Method | Route / Transfers | Travel Time | Fare (Adult) | Features |
μ-SKY Direct | Airport → Nagoya Station (Direct) | Approx. 28~35 min (Frequency: every 30 min) | Approx. ~$9 (Base Fare + μ-Ticket) | Fastest / All seats reserved / Airport-exclusive express |
Meitetsu Limited Express (Reserved Seats) | Airport → Nagoya Station (Some stops) | Approx. 35~40 min (Frequency: every 30 min) | Approx. ~$9 (Base Fare + μ-Ticket) | Recommended for balancing cost-effectiveness and speed |
Meitetsu Semi-Express / Local | Airport → Nagoya Station (Many stops) | Approx. 50~60 min | Approx. ~$6 (Base Fare only) | Most affordable / Subway-style / Standing room available |
Airport Limousine Bus | Airport → Sakae-bound | Approx. 60~88 min | Approx. ~$13 | No transfers / Affected by road traffic Currently suspended for Nagoya Station |
💡 Meitetsu Line Travel Hacks &
μ-SKY Differences

Differences Between μ-SKY and Regular Limited Express
✅ μ-SKY
All cars are special cars (reserved seats), and it's the
fastest way to Nagoya Station (approx. 28 minutes).
It's recognizable by its distinctive blue design on the front.

✅ Regular/Limited Express

You can board regular cars with just the base fare,
no reservation needed, but be prepared to stand if there are no available seats.

If you're traveling with family or
have a lot of luggage, I highly recommend adding a 'μ-Ticket' (reserved seat ticket, ~$3)
for a comfortable journey in a reserved seat!

✅ Frequency
Trains run frequently, approximately every 15-30 minutes,
so you'll have plenty of time to exchange your ticket or board
after clearing immigration.

✅ How to Board
If you book online in advance,
you can exchange your voucher for a physical ticket (or reserved seat ticket) at the
Meitetsu ticket counter or an automatic ticket machine inside the airport.
Then, simply insert it into the ticket gate and you're good to go!
🚌 Airport Limousine Bus

From Chubu Centrair International Airport,
not only to Nagoya Station but also to major hotels nearby,
airport limousine buses also operate.
However, because Nagoya City is so well-connected by train (Meitetsu Line),
I recommend considering the bus only as a secondary option if your accommodation isn't within the Nagoya Station radius or
if you have a lot of luggage and want to minimize transfers.
✅ Travel Time
Approx. 60+ minutes from Airport → Nagoya Station
✅ Features
Travel time may be longer due to urban traffic conditions.
Recommended Guide by Situation
