Nagoya 2-Day Itinerary 2026: Costs, Where to Stay & Packing Tips

While perhaps not as widely known to tourists,

Nagoya is truly a captivating city worth exploring.

Despite its unfortunate reputation as a "boring city,"

Nagoya actually boasts a surprising number of fun things to do,

making it perfect for a short 2 or 3-night trip.

Today, I'll share everything from the 2-night, 3-day itinerary and course of my trip to Nagoya, Japan, to essential packing tips and accommodation location insights!

Nagoya Travel Essential Recommendations

First, let's dive into some essential items for your Nagoya trip.

📍Your first essential is a 20-inch carry-on suitcase and a folding bag for all your souvenirs.

While it varies depending on your arrival time, if the immigration line isn't too long, using a carry-on suitcase will save you time waiting for checked luggage, allowing you to reach the city center as quickly as possible.

Then, for your return home, you can simply use the folding bag for all your souvenirs – it's a fantastic way to save time!

📍Next up, a Japanese multi-outlet power strip.

Japan uses 110V outlets, so you'll definitely need to bring a travel adapter (or 'pig nose' plug, as it's sometimes called).

However, if you have many devices to charge,

bringing multiple adapters can be a hassle.

In that case, preparing a travel multi-outlet power strip compatible with 110V beforehand will make your trip much more convenient!

📍Our third essential is your Meitetsu train ticket.

To get from Nagoya Airport to the city center,

you'll need to take the Meitetsu line to Kanayama Station or Nagoya Station.

The ticket queues at the station can sometimes be long,

and navigating the purchase process might be confusing for first-timers.

you can bypass all those troublesome on-site procedures and hop right on the train!

What's more, you can often book it cheaper than buying at the station,

so I highly recommend booking in advance if possible.

Where Should You Stay in Nagoya?

If you're visiting Nagoya for the first time,

you're probably wondering where the best place to stay is.

Let me guide you through it with the map below.

First off, if you're looking for accommodation in Nagoya city center,

I absolutely recommend staying near Sakae Station.

Sakae Station is essentially the heart of Nagoya, bustling with fantastic restaurants, shopping districts, and must-see attractions, all conveniently concentrated in one area.

As you stroll through the streets, you'll find luxury boutiques and large department stores lining the main avenues, along with an abundance of Nagoya meshi (local specialty food) restaurants.

You'll also find Nagoya's landmark, the Mirai Tower,

and even the popular new Chunichi Building observation deck,

so you'll definitely find plenty to see and do.

Plus, you can easily access nearby spots like the Osu Shopping District, Nagoya Castle,

and the Kirin Beer Museum.

Since it's also the meeting point for Shirakawa-go tours,

you absolutely won't regret choosing a hotel here.

In this fantastic Sakae area, the accommodation I want to recommend is

none other than &ANDROOMS Sakae.

While it's about 500m from Sakae Station,

it's in a relatively quiet area,

and you can even walk to Nagoya Castle, a must-visit attraction.

So, its location is actually pretty great!

The rooms themselves are quite spacious and clean, and

the biggest perk is definitely the large public bath on the 12th floor.

Even with all that, the hotel stay often costs under ~$73,

offering incredible value for money.

Nagoya 3-Day / 2-Night Itinerary & Course

Now, let's dive into the full 3-day / 2-night itinerary and course

I personally experienced in Nagoya!

I departed from Busan, leaving in the evening on the first day

and arriving back home on the evening of the last day, so keep that in mind.

Day 1

After arriving at Nagoya Airport and heading into the city,

the very first thing I did was have dinner.

I visited 'Menya Kiyo', a clam ramen shop famous even among Koreans.

The broth was slightly salty yet refreshing, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It was already nighttime after dinner on the first day, so

I spent the remaining time shopping.

There's a 24-hour Don Quijote in the heart of Sakae,

so you can shop late into the night there.

If possible, finishing all your shopping on the first day

will make the rest of your trip much more relaxed.

Day 2

The main event for Day 2 was a tour of Nagoya's neighboring cities:

Hida Takayama and Shirakawa-go.

This tour visits two charming towns in one day and is

one of the must-do experiences when you come to Nagoya.

First up was Hida Takayama, a place brimming with old Japanese charm.

Just strolling through its streets allows you to fully immerse yourself in its atmosphere.

Every nook and cranny is a photo spot, so

it was absolutely perfect for capturing memorable photos.

This area is particularly known for its many sake breweries.

I visited the Hirase Brewery,

where for just 1,000 yen, you can enjoy unlimited tastings of over 20 types of Nihonshu (sake) for 30 minutes.

It's truly a dream destination for anyone who appreciates fine spirits!

The next destination was Shirakawa-go,

It's a place that truly feels like a village out of a fairy tale.

This area receives even more snowfall than Sapporo,

so to prevent heavy snow from piling up on the roofs,

the buildings here feature distinctive triangular roofs.

This unique design gives them the enchanting appearance of fairy homes.

Unfortunately, when I visited, there was a sudden downpour,

so I only got a quick glimpse before taking refuge in a cafe.

However, it's a region that gets completely covered in snow, especially during winter,

so you're sure to witness a truly breathtaking landscape if you visit then!

This tour is an absolute must-do for any Nagoya trip,

so I highly recommend you experience it for yourself.

After the tour, we returned to the city center

and had dinner at 'Katsudon Daiki' in Osu Shopping Street.

The fluffy egg rice, savory sauce,

and thick tonkatsu were all incredibly satisfying!

Then, we headed back to Sakae to enjoy the city's night view.

We went up to the 7th floor of the Chunichi Building.

This spot is apparently a trending hot place among Nagoya's MZ generation (millennials and Gen Z),

and you can enjoy a drink while taking in the night view for free!

It's definitely worth a visit!

Since it was our last night, we stopped by an izakaya for a late-night snack,

one that specializes in Nagoya-meshi (Nagoya cuisine).

The place I went to was 'Garakutabunko Sakae branch',

and their tebasaki (chicken wings) and chicken skin skewers were particularly delicious.

The beer was perfectly chilled too – I highly recommend it!

Day 3

Day 3 was our final day and also the day we returned home,

so I planned a slightly tighter schedule.

First, we went to Nagoya Castle early in the morning.

While the main keep itself was impressive, what really stood out was

the abundance of cherry blossom trees planted along the moat,

making it incredibly beautiful when viewed from the outside!

Afterward, we returned to Sakae for lunch at Sushiro,

and then headed up to the observation deck of Mirai Tower,

Nagoya's iconic landmark.

Its unique feature is that, despite not being extremely tall, it offers such a clear and detailed view of Nagoya's cityscape.

Being a bustling urban center, it was impressive to see so many tall buildings packed together.

For the final stop on our Day 3 Nagoya itinerary,

we took a tour of the Nagoya Kirin Beer Factory.

Since it's a factory easily accessible from the city center,

most of the visitors there seemed to be tourists.

You can even experience tasting wort for 500 yen,

and you get to sample up to three glasses of Kirin beer.

Personally, it was a truly satisfying part of the trip!

With all our plans complete, we headed back to the airport.

Just a tip: the airport is home to some of Nagoya's most famous 'Nagoya Meshi' restaurants,

so it's a great idea to head there a bit early,

grab some dinner, and then depart!

What Did I Spend for 3 Days and 2 Nights?

Today, I've shared my 3-day, 2-night itinerary and course information for Nagoya.

Curious how much it cost to have all this fun and delicious food?

I'll share the approximate expenses below.

First, airfare for two people was approximately ~$409,

accommodation for 2 nights was roughly ~$292 (for a weekend),

local expenses totaled ~$358, and tour fees were ~$102.

The total cost came out to approximately ~$1161.

Since Nagoya isn't exactly cheap, and

we stayed for two weekend nights, the accommodation costs were higher,

so I don't think the overall expenses were particularly low.

Nevertheless, it was a satisfying trip with a charm distinct from other Japanese city destinations!
