Hello, fellow travelers! Lisa here.

It's been quite a while since I last visited the vibrant streets of Myeongdong in Seoul.
Walking through the area in 2026, the contrast from the quiet pandemic years is incredible! The neighborhood is fully back to life.
If you head there around 6:00 PM, you'll find blocks lined with sizzling food trucks, creating an electric atmosphere packed with locals and international visitors alike.

Amidst all this culinary chaos, I decided to visit a spot that is legendary among both Koreans and global foodies:
Myeongdong Kyoja.
As I was eating, I honestly caught myself thinking, "Wait, was it always this incredibly good?"
So, here's my honest, out-of-pocket review of this iconic eatery!
Location & Getting There
I visited the Myeongdong Kyoja branch location! Both the main restaurant and this branch are just a short walk from each other, so you can just head to whichever has a shorter line.
Here is the info for the branch I visited!
Myeongdong Kyoja Branch: Naver Map
Address: 10 Myeongdong 10-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul

Parking Information
There is no dedicated parking at Myeongdong Kyoja.
You'll need to use a nearby public or private lot. Since I planned to spend the whole day exploring Myeongdong, I used a local parking app called "Modu's Parking."
I grabbed a full-day pass for about ~$12, which is a steal for this area.
If you're renting a car in Seoul, utilizing local parking apps is highly recommended!
Hours of Operation
Every Day: 10:30 AM - 9:00 PM
Open year-round
Last Order: 8:30 PM
The Exterior

As you stroll into the Myeongdong food alley, you'll spot this dedicated building. This is the branch location; the main store is just a little further down the street!

Right by the entrance, you can't miss the bright red Michelin Guide plaques.
It earned the prestigious Bib Gourmand status for six consecutive years from 2017 to 2023! It's no wonder this place is on every international traveler's foodie bucket list.
Inside the Restaurant

The restaurant spans the first and second floors. When we visited, there was no wait, and they were only seating guests on the first floor.
It was around 4:00 PM on a weekday. The place was bustling, but the first floor alone was handling the crowd perfectly!
The table turnover rate here is unbelievably fast.
Menu & Taste Test

The menu is beautifully simple.
Signature Kalguksu (Noodle Soup): ~$8
Mandu (Dumplings): ~$9
Bibim Guksu (Spicy Noodles): ~$8
Kongguksu (Cold Soy Milk Noodles): ~$9
We decided to go with the classics: one bowl of Kalguksu (~$8) and one steamer of Mandu (~$9).
Note: You pay upfront at your table right after ordering!

The food arrived almost instantly.
Myeongdong Kyoja has even introduced serving robots to help navigate the busy aisles—a fun modern touch! haha

Behold, the famous Myeongdong Kalguksu!
It's characterized by its rich, earthy broth, topped with four delicate mini-dumplings and a savory minced meat garnish.

And the Mandu!
You get a generous serving of 10 plump dumplings per order.

And we can't forget the legendary garlic kimchi!
The staff constantly roam the aisles with small buckets, proactively refilling your kimchi so you can eat to your heart's content. We happily accepted three refills!

Just looking at these photos makes my mouth water again.
True to their name ("Kyoja" implies dumplings), their mandu is absolutely spectacular.
We only ordered one noodle soup to share because we wanted to save room for Myeongdong's famous street food later!

Pro Tip: If you order one main dish per person, they offer complimentary noodle refills!
If you arrive with a big appetite, definitely take advantage of the free extra noodles.

First, I dove into the Kalguksu.
The broth is thick and deeply savory, almost reminding me of a hearty wok-fried soup!
It even has a subtle, addictive smoky flavor.

The bowl is packed with meat, and the hand-cut noodles are incredibly silky and slurpable.
It's the kind of soul-warming soup that would make the ultimate hangover cure!

But the ultimate flavor bomb comes from pairing it with Myeongdong Kyoja's signature item.
Eating the noodles with their famous garlic kimchi.
The sharp, pungent kick of the garlic kimchi cuts perfectly through the rich, thick broth. It's a match made in heaven!

Next up, the dumplings!
I'm a massive dumpling enthusiast, but I usually heavily favor spicy kimchi dumplings.
Because of that, I'm pretty strict when it comes to standard pork dumplings. However, Myeongdong Kyoja completely won me over. The filling is incredibly juicy and substantial, while the wrapper is paper-thin. It was exactly my style.
I would happily return just to eat these dumplings alone!

Naturally, the dumplings also taste phenomenal when eaten with a slice of that fiery garlic kimchi.

At ~$9 for the steamer, it works out to less than a dollar per dumpling. For this level of quality, it's absolutely worth every penny.

As we were leaving, I spotted their official certification plaques by the door.
There's no doubt why this historic restaurant has been so deeply loved for decades in a neighborhood that sees millions of international tourists.
Final Thoughts

My return trip to Myeongdong Kyoja was a massive success. As a restaurant that held Michelin recognition for six straight years, it absolutely lives up to its reputation. From the silky hand-cut noodles to the perfectly crafted dumplings, everything was phenomenal.
I genuinely believe a huge part of their enduring success is thanks to their signature garlic kimchi.
If you're not used to it, the intense raw garlic flavor might catch you off guard at first bite! But it's an incredibly addictive, authentic Korean flavor that you'll quickly fall in love with.
The lines here can get notoriously long, so I highly recommend visiting during off-peak hours (like mid-afternoon on a weekday) to walk right in without a wait.
If your 2026 travels bring you to Seoul, Myeongdong Kyoja is an absolute must-visit!! Highly recommended.
Will I return? 100% Yes.
