Hellooo, it's Toffee💛
It's already April, and everywhere I look, the flower petals I adore have started to bloom! I just love it!
So, I bet many of you are already thinking about your spring weekend getaways, right? Haha!
Recently, I took a trip with my in-laws to
Munbaemaeul Village in Gangchon, Chuncheon, and I'm excited to share the 'walk' (let's be honest, it was more of a hike!) course with you!

📍 Munbaemaeul Village
444-11 Gangchon-ri, Namsan-myeon, Chuncheon-si, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province

The Munbaemaeul Village course typically kicks off from the Gugokpokpo Waterfall parking lot.
The parking area is wonderfully spacious and well-organized,
making it super convenient even for families bringing multiple cars!
My mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law's family, and us – a grand total of six of us embarked on this adventure~!

And seriously, don't underestimate this as just a casual stroll! You'd be mistaken!
Think of it as trekking, and make sure to wear proper non-slip shoes.
You'll thank me later! 👼
Munbaemaeul Village Entrance Fee

The entrance fee for Munbaemaeul Village is ~$1.
Cash isn't accepted; you'll need a 'card'‼️
But here's the cool part: the full payment amount is refunded as Chuncheon Love Gift Certificates,
which means many people used them to grab some delicious snacks nearby! 😊

Residents of Chuncheon, Hongcheon, Hwacheon, Inje, and Yanggu
in the lake region get free admission!
Wouldn't it be absolutely perfect for locals from these areas to come for a family outing on the weekend?!
Gugokhun (Spirit of Nine Bends): Bringing Dreams and Hope to All

The path leading up to Munbaemaeul Village offers no chance for boredom!
Everywhere along the way, on each of the nine bends of Gugokpokpo Waterfall,
there are nine words hidden that give people dreams and hope,
and they all start with the Korean consonant 'Ssang-giyeok (ㄲ)'! 🤗
I absolutely love a good scavenger hunt, so finding these words was a blast!
Check out the ones I found 💕

[Kkum (Dream), Kki (Talent), Kkang (Grit), Kkun (Expert), Kkeun (Perseverance), Kkal (Style)]
I only managed to find six out of the nine words.
I guess I must have simply walked past the remaining two somewhere along the way ㅠㅠ
If any of you explorers find all nine, please do let me know in the comments! Hahaha!!

This is my fiancé, painstakingly dragging himself up to Munbaemaeul Village on an ankle he bravely sacrificed to win a badminton tournament the day before...
I visited in March, and the waterfall was completely frozen!
However, on our way back down, my father-in-law shared a secret about this waterfall with me.
Since some of you might not know it, I won't spoil the surprise! ••🤐

The really steep uphill climb
begins right when you spot this sign!

Honestly, because my friends always said, "Wanna go to Munbaemaeul Village for some makgeolli (rice wine)?", I just figured it was a casual stroll up a nearby local hill, you know?!
While I was a little taken aback that it wasn't quite what I'd imagined,
as someone who absolutely loves hiking,
it turned out to be a 'win-win' situation! It was perfect for working off the drinks from the night before and getting in a good workout🍀

Even with a sprained and heavily swollen ankle,
this passion to go to Munbaemaeul for makgeolli...

After a continuous steep section,
this spot is a gentle slope, perfect for taking a breather and continuing on! ️
Munbaemaeul isn't far now, fighting! 💪

Breathing in plenty of mountain air and walking diligently, we finally reached the peak!
Since we made it to the summit, we took a moment to rest and snap some photos before heading down to Munbaemaeul 📸
We were moving with my husband's family,
a total of six of us, and I thought that was quite a big group?!

But as we walked, we saw some incredible extended families with well over a dozen people,
all enjoying the journey together! 😂
Seeing such heartwarming scenes,
it instantly made me understand why Munbaemaeul is so beloved as a family outing course,
regardless of age or gender! 👍

Ah, the real reason for coming to Munbaemaeul... it was to eat THIS, right? 😍
Just looking at the photos makes your mouth water, doesn't it? Now I understand why the people of Chuncheon
sing such praises for Munbaemaeul ^^

We leisurely ascended, chatting away,
and it took us about 40 minutes!
If you pick up the pace a bit, you can definitely reach it in 20-30 minutes,
making it a relatively short course.
So, even if you're not particularly fond of hiking or mountain climbing,
for the sake of Munbaemaeul's beautiful scenery and incredibly delicious bibimbap,
it's definitely worth giving it a try! 👍
The restaurant I visited in Munbaemaeul
was so delicious that I wrote a separate post about it! 😍
