Muju Sketch Pension Review: Budget Valley Stay
Discover Muju Sketch Pension, a budget-friendly cozy stay right by the stunning Gucheondong Valley, perfect for nature lovers and families visiting Muju.

Here is my review of Muju Sketch Pension, which I visited last week, fully self-funded!
Since it's located right in front of the valley creek, it's perfect for a summer getaway,
and being so close to Deogyusan Mountain, it's also a fantastic spot for a winter trip.
This time, we visited as a family of four for about ~$83, which was an incredible value.
The vibe was absolutely lovely, so if you're looking for a cozy aesthetic stay in Muju, I highly recommend it.
I've also packed in some tips on how to get a discount,
so if you're searching for a pension in Muju, make sure to read to the end!

Location & Price
📌 Key Highlights
✅ Located right in front of Muju Gucheondong Valley
✅ Just a 6-minute drive to Deogyusan Recreational Forest
✅ A family-of-four friendly stay in Muju for about ~$83 a night

Muju is famous for its gorgeous Gucheondong Valley.
Sketch Pension is located right along this very valley,
meaning you can walk right out of your room to splash in the water.
It was still a bit chilly in early May, so we couldn't jump in,
but the valley was so beautiful that it definitely made me want to come back.

From Sketch Pension, it's just a 6-minute drive to Deogyusan Recreational Forest,
and only a 10-minute drive to the ski resort, which is why it's a popular choice in winter too.
Unfortunately, due to a recent forest fire, we couldn't visit the forest itself,
but the entire area was literally surrounded by the majestic Deogyusan Mountain.

Usually, a great location means a hefty price tag,
but Muju Sketch Pension is only ~$83 per night (for 4 people).
Since other nearby accommodations easily go for over ~$128 a night, this is an incredible bargain!
Plus, I scored an extra discount and booked it in the ~$70 range,
which made me love it even more! :)
* Check the bottom of this post for the discount tip! *

However, no matter how important budget is,
giving up on the overall vibe is always a bummer.
Fortunately, Sketch Pension is a sensibly and beautifully decorated aesthetic stay.

Exterior & Room Review
✅
Check-in 3:00 PM / Check-out 11:00 AM
✅
Based on Room B5
2 Double Beds, 1 Bathroom
1 Sofa, 1 Terrace

Sketch Pension is completely embraced by the mountains.
There were actually more buildings than I expected,
giving it the peaceful vibe of a cozy village tucked away in the woods.

As soon as you walk through the entrance, you'll spot the front office and a sparkling clean swimming pool.
While the pool isn't massive, it looked more than big enough to splash around and have fun.
Getting pool access at this price point felt like an absolute steal!

Room B5, where we stayed, is standard for 2 people,
but since it has a loft layout, there was plenty of space for the 4 of us.
The moment we opened the door, my immediate thought was...
...how immaculately clean and beautifully decorated it was, fitting its aesthetic reputation perfectly!

Because of the clever layout, the villas don't face each other at all,
meaning you can enjoy a private BBQ with your favorite people in total comfort!
We stayed in B5, and literally no one walked past our terrace. Talk about privacy!
📌 Charcoal & Grill Fees
2-3 people: ~$13 / 4-5 people: ~$19 / 6-8 people: ~$26

Upstairs on the second floor, you’ll find two comfy double beds.
There's plenty of space between them, making it a great setup even if you're traveling with friends.
Plus, the view of the surrounding nature right through the window was absolutely gorgeous :)

Although the first floor is on the cozier side,
it’s packed with everything you need, from a sofa and clothes rack to a kitchen and dining table.
They even have two refrigerators, which made storing all our groceries super easy!

From a microwave, mini rice cooker, and electric kettle to plenty of cooking utensils,
it had every essential you’d want for a perfect pension getaway.
They even provided rubber gloves so you don't have to wash dishes barehanded!

The bathroom is quite spacious with great water pressure and plenty of hot water.
If I had to nitpick, the toiletries were a bit on the smaller side...?
But honestly, they were more than enough for the four of us for a one-night stay.
To sum it all up:
If you're looking for a cozy valley retreat in Muju surrounded by Deogyusan Mountain,
and want an incredibly aesthetic stay for around ~$19 per person,
Muju Sketch Pension is hands down the ultimate spot!
