My sister actually discovered Kongsure Tofu, a renowned eatery in Muju, Jeonbuk province. Sometimes locals refer to it as 'Kongsure Tofuga.' We headed straight there for a late lunch on our first day in Muju.
Their **break time starts at 3:00 PM**, but we arrived just after 1:00 PM, giving us plenty of time to enjoy our meal!

First off, the **parking lot** was impressively spacious, which is always a plus! Seeing so many cars already there, even with plenty of spaces, made us even more excited, knowing we were likely in for a real Muju treat.
They even offer **waiting list registration via a tablet system**, but since we arrived a bit after the main lunch rush, we were able to walk right in without any wait.

As the name 'Kongsure Tofu' (meaning 'Tofu Cart' or 'Tofu Wagon') suggests, the menu is a haven for tofu lovers. From rich tofu hot pots and savory tofu bossam (boiled pork belly with tofu) to classic soft tofu stews, they truly offer **almost every imaginable tofu dish**.
My dad, who isn't a fan of spicy food, was thrilled to find the **Perilla Seed Soft Tofu Stew** on the menu. And at just ~$6 for a stew, the prices were incredibly reasonable! We felt the hot pot options were also about ~$3 to ~$7 cheaper than what you'd typically find in larger cities like Seoul.

Our Lunch Experience

The interior of the restaurant is quite spacious. There are plenty of tables in the main hall as you enter, but there are also additional tables tucked away in a back section.
While not private rooms, these inner tables offer a cozier, more intimate dining experience.

Truth be told, we had already grabbed a Subway sandwich before heading out, so we decided to keep our order light: **one plate of Modubu (sliced firm tofu), a Perilla Seed Soft Tofu Stew, and a regular Soft Tofu Stew**.
The **Modubu** was the first to arrive. It clearly had that homemade touch, thick and hearty, served with kimchi and soy sauce for dipping. It was simple, yet satisfying!

The tofu itself had a subtle, rich soybean flavor without being overpowering, making it incredibly easy to enjoy. After tasting it, I definitely found myself wanting to try their Tofu Duruchigi (spicy stir-fried tofu) next time!

Next up were the soft tofu stews! My dad, as mentioned, opted for the **Perilla Seed Soft Tofu Stew**, and he absolutely loved it, finishing every last drop. He raved about its clean, savory broth.
The **regular Soft Tofu Stew**, which is more familiar to many, was also quite good. It wasn't overly salty or sweet, which I appreciated. Plus, it came with some decent-sized shrimp, making it feel quite substantial!

Kongsure Tofu was our very first meal on our Muju adventure. While I wouldn't say it was the most amazing tofu I've ever had in my life, it's definitely a reliable Muju restaurant that **most people would enjoy**. It's a solid choice for a delicious, no-fuss meal.
It's also super convenient, less than a **5-minute walk from Muju Bus Terminal**, making it easily accessible even if you don't have a car. So, if you're a tofu fan like me, or just looking for a dependable meal in Muju, I highly recommend giving Kongsure Tofu a try!
