Free parking available

The Muju Hyangrosan Natural Recreation Forest Monorail is located about a 30-minute drive from Gucheondong Valley. If your itinerary involves exploring the valley or other mountain areas, we recommend visiting the monorail on your first or last day of the trip!

We didn't know about the strict schedule and ended up waiting for quite a while, so checking the Muju Hyangrosan Monorail's operating hours is absolutely essential. It only runs for about 2 hours and 30 minutes in both the morning and afternoon. Remember to factor in time to purchase your tickets in advance!
We unfortunately arrived during the break time and waited over an hour. Also, keep in mind that the monorail does not operate on weekdays.
* Operating hours may vary during peak season (check official website)

There are about 2-3 parking lots available, starting from the entrance.
While the parking lot at the very beginning is spacious, it's a bit of a walk to the monorail. We recommend parking in the upper lots if possible for convenience. They even have a few EV charging stations, which is a nice bonus!

Monorail Ticket Office

Once you park and head up, you'll find the 'Soop Market,' which is essentially a small shop that also serves as the monorail ticket office. Remember, an adult ticket costs ~$3!

When we went to buy tickets for the afternoon session, people were already lining up at the ticket office about 15 minutes before it opened. We highly recommend arriving at least 20 minutes before ticket sales begin!

Our Family's Riding Experience

The Muju Monorail definitely attracts a lot of families. We saw many groups like ours, with parents and children, as well as couples. My dad, for one, found it quite enjoyable! : )

The Muju Monorail ride takes about 25 minutes round trip. At the top, you can walk for about 5 minutes to reach Hyangrobong Peak, then simply take the monorail back down. There are only 5 monorail cars in total, and each can accommodate up to 6 people.

There are surprisingly steep sections along the track! While the safety belts kept us secure, we had to be careful not to drop our phones while taking photos. Some parts even felt like riding a slow roller coaster, adding to the fun!

From the monorail station, it's about a 5-minute walk to Hyangrobong Peak. However, the path isn't perfectly maintained and can be quite steep, so it might not be ideal for elderly visitors with knee discomfort.

Hyangrobong Peak, at almost 1,400 feet (420 meters), feels more like a charming local hill, but even on a slightly cloudy day, the view of Muju town from the top was absolutely stunning! : )

The Muju Hyangrosan Natural Recreation Forest Monorail was definitely worth a visit. Gliding through the mountains on the monorail offered fresh air and a really fun experience. My dad loved it, and the kids on board seemed to have a blast too, so if you're planning a family trip to Muju, it's a great stop!
Just remember to double-check the operating hours before you go!
