After a fantastic trip to Nha Trang in 2025, our decision to visit Phu Quoc this year, 2026, was largely influenced by friends. Everyone in our travel group had already explored Phu Quoc and raved about it! When I asked for restaurant recommendations, two friends independently suggested Meo Kitchen. So, on our last day, right before heading to the airport, we made sure to stop by.

We stopped by Meo Kitchen in the central district after a fun day at VinWonders, just before heading to the airport. While there were outdoor seats, they weren't for dining, and the interior was packed, so we had to wait for a table. They handed us a waiting ticket that was entirely in English, making us wonder if we'd stepped into a globally-friendly spot!
Since it was still warm even at night (around 85°F), we had a backup plan to visit Som Moi Garden if the wait was too long. However, the staff informed us we could comfortably wait next door at the Tour Trip Lounge. That sealed the deal!
The lounge was bustling with travelers waiting for airport pickup services, and it was a great way to escape the heat. We enjoyed refreshing mango smoothies while we waited. When our number, 24, was called over the loudspeaker, it felt incredibly convenient. No more sweating it out on the street!
Meo Kitchen's banh mi came highly recommended, so we ordered the couple's set, which included pho and banh mi. We also heard great things about their skewers, so we added a set with four skewers and the famous Grandfather Beer.
And yes, the Grandfather Beer truly lives up to its name, featuring a charming old man enjoying a brew right on the bottle! I hadn't encountered this beer during my trip to Nha Trang in 2025, but it turns out it's a unique local craft beer exclusively available in Phu Quoc. I felt like I was drinking all the beer I'd planned for 2026 right here in Phu Quoc, but it was incredibly refreshing and delicious. It has a strong malty flavor and a crisp carbonation that paired perfectly with the banh mi.
We ordered the beef pho for our child, and it had a distinctly rich and flavorful broth, different yet delicious compared to typical local pho.
The moment I bit into the banh mi, I had an epiphany: Meo Kitchen must be run by someone with an international palate, perhaps even catering to a global audience! The perfectly seasoned bean sprouts and the extra-crispy fried egg inside were a delightful twist, making it incredibly appealing. It felt like a gourmet version of the classic Vietnamese sandwich.
When the Grandfather Beer arrived, there was a multi-language note about bottle restrictions, and similarly, with the morning glory, helpful instructions were provided in several languages on how to mix it. While many customers seemed to be international, we also noticed Chinese visitors, highlighting the restaurant's broad appeal.
The skewers further cemented my impression that this place cleverly blends Vietnamese flavors with broader culinary sensibilities. It felt like a lively izakaya, with the beer flowing freely! The bean sprouts in the banh mi even reminded me of a Japanese-style stir-fry, which explains why I enjoyed it so much.
I was so tempted to try the banh mi ice cream, where they scoop out the bread and fill it with ice cream, but I was simply too full to manage another bite!
We had a 10% discount coupon from Tourpick, but showing a screenshot wasn't enough; you need to have the app installed and present it directly to get the discount. While the skewers and drinks weren't included, we still got a decent discount, bringing our total bill to approximately ~$229 (5.73 million VND). Having been recommended by two different groups, Meo Kitchen truly exceeded our expectations. If anyone asks me for a recommendation in Phu Quoc's central district, I'll enthusiastically say, 'Meo Kitchen!'
If there are no seats available inside Meo Kitchen, you can comfortably wait at the TourTrip Lounge right next door. At the lounge, you can enjoy a mango smoothie, and your waiting number will be announced verbally, for example, "Waiting number 24, please enter."
'Grandpa's Beer' is a local beer that can only be enjoyed in the Phu Quoc region. Its bottle features a grandpa drinking beer, and it boasts a strong barley flavor and high carbonation. The Banh Mi is a unique style, perfect for Korean palates, as it contains bean sprouts and crispy egg.
