Planning a trip from Manchester to London in 2026? Discover why the train beats flying or buses, plus how to score tickets for as low as $32.

When it comes to traveling from Manchester to London, you have three main options:
flights, trains, or buses.
While flights only take about an hour in the air, they are highly impractical. Tickets cost around ~$102 before adding hefty baggage fees, and when you factor in the transit time to and from far-flung airports, it is simply not worth the hassle.
Taking a long-distance bus (like National Express) is even less appealing. Sure, it is the cheapest option, but it takes about 5 hours. Plus, UK coaches are notorious for delays—I once had to wait over 2 hours for a delayed bus!

The best option by far is the train, specifically the Avanti West Coast high-speed service.
It takes just over 2 hours, is reasonably priced, and connects Manchester Piccadilly directly to London Euston—both located right in the heart of their respective city centers.
Booking Train Tickets & Prices

I booked directly through the official Avanti website and paid around ~$177 for two tickets. However, I later realized you can find tickets on third-party booking platforms starting as low as ~$32 per person if you book ahead!

Among the various booking platforms, Klook offered some of the best rates. Train ticket prices vary heavily by time, so if you are willing to travel in the late afternoon, you can snag some incredibly cheap deals. Tickets usually open for booking around 90 days in advance.

Book cheap train tickets on Trip.com
While Klook is often the cheapest, they sometimes only show schedules up to two months in advance. If you need to book further out, I highly recommend checking Trip.com. Their pricing is very competitive, and their booking window is wider.
Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston

Manchester Piccadilly Station is located right in the city center, making it incredibly easy to reach.

Head toward Platform A, and you will soon reach a bustling main concourse where passengers gather.

The platforms are divided into sections (1–7, 8–9, 10–14). Keep an eye on the large departure boards to see which platform your train is assigned to.
Look out for the "On Time" status, as well as any delay or cancellation notices—UK trains do occasionally get cancelled, so staying updated is key.

You can purchase tickets at the station kiosks, but to avoid sold-out trains and high last-minute fares, I strongly recommend booking online in advance.

Since I had some spare time, I explored the station. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and convenience stores. However, seating in the main concourse is fairly limited, so I would recommend grabbing a drink at a cafe to relax while you wait.

Before entering the platform, you will need to scan the QR code from your PDF ticket at the barriers. Station staff are always nearby to help, so have your digital ticket ready on your phone!

The train itself is very modern and comfortable, featuring spacious seating, dedicated luggage racks for heavy bags, and convenient power outlets. The only downside was that the onboard Wi-Fi was quite spotty.

After a smooth 2-hour journey, we arrived safely at London Euston Station!

Taking the Avanti West Coast train takes only about 2 hours, and traveling from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston offers excellent city center accessibility at both ends. On the other hand, flights are expensive at ~$102 and airports are far away, while express buses take 5 hours and are frequently delayed, making them less recommended.
Train tickets can usually be booked from 90 days before departure, and if you book for a late afternoon time slot, you can get the lowest prices starting around ~$32 per person. Klook is the cheapest, but you can only book schedules within 2 months, so for tickets beyond that, we recommend buying them on Trip.com, which offers similar prices.
You should find the platform number for your booked time on the electronic display board in the station, and make sure to check if the train is 'On time', delayed, or canceled. Staff members are stationed at the platform entrance, so you can enter after scanning the QR code on your prepared PDF ticket.
Inside the train, there are luggage racks for heavy suitcases and charging ports, and the seats are comfortable. However, the disadvantage is that the Wi-Fi connection on the train is quite poor.
