Porto's Legendary Francesinha Spot
Majestic Café
When you think of Porto, you might instantly picture its connection to the magical world of Harry Potter!
It's widely known that J.K. Rowling, the brilliant author behind the series, found inspiration and even penned parts of Harry Potter in various spots around the city.
Among these iconic locations, one café stands out as a particularly famous writing haunt: the magnificent Majestic Café.
So renowned, in fact, that Majestic Café has been featured on numerous travel shows, cementing its status as a must-visit in Porto.
📍 Majestic Café
R. de Santa Catarina 112, 4000-442 Porto, Portugal
You'll find it conveniently located right in the heart of Porto's city center.

Nestled along a bustling city street, Porto's Majestic Café boasts a unique charm.
While its opulent interior is legendary, there are also several outdoor tables available if you prefer to enjoy the street ambiance.
If you're traveling with your furry friend, like the adorable dog pictured, the outdoor seating is perfect!
The café's exterior ornamentation is truly distinctive, featuring two angelic figures holding what appears to be a decorative banner.

Stepping inside Majestic Café, you're immediately struck by its soaring ceilings and rich, antique atmosphere that exudes pure luxury.
During my visit, every table was occupied, bustling with a diverse mix of locals and international travelers, all soaking in the vibrant energy.
It was clear this place is a favorite for many.

I was guided to a table tucked away towards the back of the Majestic Café, where I spotted a grand piano. It looked as though it could be played, perhaps offering live music on some evenings – a truly enchanting thought.

After being seated by a friendly waiter, I perused the menu.
I was craving something hearty and, having seen it featured on TV, decided to try the famous Francesinha.
Francesinha
A hearty, toast-like dish layered with steak, spicy sausage, ham, and smothered in a special, rich sauce.
It's a dish you absolutely have to try at least once when in Porto, so I ordered it right away.
At Porto's Majestic Café, the Francesinha served with a side of fries costs 30 Euros.
Keep in mind that prices here are generally higher compared to other establishments, but the experience is truly unique.

While waiting for my order, I took the opportunity to admire the café's interior.
The high ceilings certainly contributed to an incredible sense of openness, and the wall mirrors, coupled with the intricate lighting, created a design that felt truly unique and harmonious. The craftsmanship in the decorations was simply stunning upon closer inspection.

And then, my Francesinha arrived!
When I ordered just one Francesinha, the waiter kindly asked if I'd like it cut in half for two people to share. I happily agreed and thanked him – such thoughtful service!
True to his word, it arrived perfectly halved and served on separate plates, making it incredibly easy to enjoy. (Talk about amazing hospitality!)
The accompanying fries weren't your typical thin-cut variety, but delicious wedge fries! (A pleasant surprise!)

Here's a closer look at the Francesinha.
The sandwich was completely enveloped in melted cheese, promising an incredible depth of flavor.
The special sauce pooled generously at the bottom, ensuring every bite was perfectly coated.

Unable to resist, I cut into it with my knife to reveal the cross-section.
Bread, ham, sausage, and steak were stacked in delicious layers within the Francesinha.
Just looking at the layers, you get a sense of this being a delicious calorie bomb!
It's a protein-packed sandwich, so a drink is definitely a must!
Paired with that unique, indescribable special sauce, it was incredibly tasty.
If you visit Porto, I highly recommend trying this dish at least once.

Just the Francesinha and a Zero Coke came to 35 Euros (around ~$35)! Wow!
Even the coffee options weren't exactly cheap.
As a café known for its somewhat steep prices, the cost is certainly something to consider, but there's a clear reason why so many people flock here. For a truly memorable experience in Porto, a visit to Majestic Café is well worth it.
Go see for yourself!
The Francesinha at Majestic Cafe costs 30 euros and comes with French fries. It is a toast-like dish with steak, spicy sausage, ham, and a special sauce.
Yes, if you order one Francesinha and mention that two people will be sharing it, the staff will neatly divide the dish into two equal portions and serve them on separate plates. The fries will be served as wedge-cut potatoes.
Majestic Cafe is generally on the more expensive side compared to other establishments. For example, ordering a Francesinha and a Coke Zero totals 35 euros, and coffee varieties are also not cheap.
