Spain, the vibrant country of passion,

boasts warmer weather compared to many other regions,

making it a great country to visit even in winter.

Beyond the already famous tourist cities in Spain like Barcelona and Seville,

Madrid, the capital of Spain, is also an incredibly

charming city.

Let's dive into Madrid's weather in February and March,

and guide you through the must-visit spots both in the city center and its surroundings.

Madrid, Spain: Weather and What to Wear in February and March

Madrid's February weather averages around 6-12 degrees Celsius. While it might not feel as cold as you expect during the daytime when the sun is out,

the temperature difference between day and night can be quite significant.

For your attire, we recommend bringing a thick coat or a padded jacket

so you can layer up.

Madrid's March weather is relatively warmer than February, with an average temperature of 9-16 degrees Celsius.

You can dress a bit lighter than in February, but due to the daily temperature fluctuations, we still recommend bringing outerwear like a jacket or a coat.

During my trip to Madrid, I found there were more interesting places to visit in the city center than I expected. Among them, I'd like to introduce three recommended destinations:

1. Prado Museum

The Prado Museum (El Museo del Prado) is one of the world's top three art museums, where you can admire masterpieces from the Baroque and Renaissance eras.

It's a global magnet, drawing so many visitors that it's often said you haven't truly experienced Madrid if you visit the city without seeing the Prado Museum.

When I arrived at the Prado Museum entrance,

the queue was absolutely massive.

Buying tickets on-site seemed practically impossible, so purchasing a Prado Museum fast-track ticket in advance was

not an option, but a necessity.

For places with high artistic value like the Prado Museum, a guided tour with an expert can make the experience much more impactful, as you learn about the historical background. Therefore, we highly recommend a roughly 3-hour guided tour.

2. Royal Palace of Madrid

Operating Hours: Oct-Mar Mon-Sat 10:00-18:00, Sun 10:00-16:00

The Royal Palace of Madrid (Real Palacio de Madrid) is one of the largest royal palaces in Europe, showcasing magnificent Baroque-style architecture.

As it was the official residence of the Spanish royal family,

the interior of the palace is all about splendor.

With over 3,000 rooms,

only parts of it, such as the Royal Armory, Pharmacy, Grand Theater, and various halls,

are open to tourists.

3. Retiro Park

Operating Hours: April-September: 6:00 AM - 12:00 AM, October-March: 6:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Retiro Park (Parque del Retiro) is

Madrid's most famous park, featuring a large artificial lake at its center.

At the Estanque del Retiro,

you can enjoy boating and take leisurely strolls around the lake.

It's a wonderful place to relax and unwind if you have some extra time.

Madrid isn't just about its city center;

it's also perfectly situated for exploring nearby towns and cities,

making it an ideal base for your adventures.

Segovia is located north of Madrid,

while Toledo lies to the south.

Both are UNESCO World Heritage cities,

and it's common to combine them into a single-day bus tour.

Segovia is a city where ancient Roman architecture has been preserved,

and it's rich in sights to see, such as the Aqueduct, Segovia Castle (Alcázar), and Segovia Cathedral.

Segovia's famous traditional dish is

Cochinillo Asado (roasted suckling pig).

While this roasted suckling pig can be pricey, it's definitely worth trying at least once!

Located to the south, Toledo boasts attractions like

the Toledo Cathedral, the Jewish Quarter, the Alcázar,

and the Mirador del Valle, among others.

It was a city that offered a completely different kind of charm compared to Segovia!

When taking the Renfe train

Madrid → Segovia round trip 18 euros (approximately ~$19)

Madrid → Toledo round trip 28 euros (approximately ~$29)

Since these cities are located 90km and 70km respectively from Madrid,

even using Renfe can result in significant transportation costs.

And if you consider the time and expense to get from the train station to the sights,

it can be quite tiring.

That's why I personally recommend saving both money and energy

by opting for a day bus tour rather than relying on public transportation for your visit.
