Authentic Argentinian Steakhouse
La Cabaña
Hello, fellow travelers!
Melissa, your Spain travel blogger, here to share another incredible culinary find.
Argentina is renowned for its incredible beef – delicious and often surprisingly affordable. The only catch? It's a long, long flight away!
So, imagine my excitement when I saw a popular food YouTuber, Yuksikman, rave about an amazing Argentinian steakhouse right here in Madrid. I knew instantly I had to go! It shot straight to the top of my itinerary, and I made a reservation for La Cabaña as soon as my travel dates were set.
While Spanish cuisine is fantastic, Madrid's colonial ties and proximity to Latin America mean you'll find a surprising number of fantastic Central and South American restaurants.
La Cabaña Argentina stands out with over 7,400 Google reviews and an impressive 4.7-star rating. This place is clearly a local favorite and a traveler's delight.
My husband and I were absolutely thrilled with our meal, so I'm excited to share our review of this top Madrid restaurant recommendation.

You'll find the restaurant tucked away on a charming side street, not directly on a main thoroughfare. It's a pleasant little stroll as you soak in the local atmosphere.
Making a reservation in advance is absolutely crucial, especially for dinner. We visited for lunch and it was almost completely full, so imagine how busy evenings get!

2. La Cabaña: Bustling Even at Lunchtime

This was easily one of the most anticipated moments of our Madrid trip. I couldn't wait to try their renowned steak! A sign outside indicated the restaurant has been serving up delicious meals for 30 years – a true testament to its quality.

The restaurant itself is incredibly spacious. After checking in with our reservation at the entrance, we were promptly led to our table. There's a staircase leading downstairs, but I'm not sure if it's additional dining space or solely for staff access.
Even though I already had my order in mind, I still browsed the menu (available via QR code).

In Spain, and many Western countries, it's common for servers to ask about drinks before you've even fully settled on your food order. At first, I found it a bit odd, feeling rushed to decide on a drink while still looking at the main menu.
You can always order water or ask for a few more minutes. However, I came prepared to enjoy some wine, so I asked for a recommendation for a bottle of red and placed my order.
The wine menu is also available on the website linked above.

I requested a non-sweet Argentinian wine priced under ~$54. The server recommended a Malbec, which I already love, so it was a perfect choice and absolutely delicious.
While the wine list includes some incredibly expensive bottles, there are also fantastic options available for under ~$108.
Spain is a major wine-producing country, offering many delicious and affordable choices. So, whether you're at La Cabaña or any other restaurant, I highly recommend ordering wine by the bottle. While it might feel like a splurge back home, you can often enjoy excellent quality wine at a very reasonable price here.

They brought out complimentary chimichurri sauce, olives, and butter. We also received some bread (not pictured) as we eagerly awaited our meat...
3. La Cabaña Steak Menu Highlights
We ordered the Parrillada de Carne for two (a mixed grill platter) and the Mollejas (sweetbreads), which came highly recommended by Yuksikman.
We knew it would be a lot of food for two people, but we figured, 'When in Madrid, right?' So, we went all out with the mixed grill. (Note: The mixed grill is available for a minimum of two people).

The photo above shows the beef sweetbreads, or mollejas. This is a cut you rarely find in many countries, and it was incredibly tender and savory. The texture and flavor were unlike anything I'd ever tasted. Seriously, you HAVE to order this!

The Parrillada de Carne for two included various cuts like tenderloin, ribs, and an Argentinian chorizo sausage. The flavor was, as expected, absolutely delicious, but the portion size was truly massive!
Even without the Mollejas, it would have been more than enough. Still, I have no regrets – it was wonderful to sample such a variety of incredible meats.

Including a bottle of wine, our epic steak feast came to ~$124. This kind of price for such a meal would be unheard of in many places! At the bottom of the receipt, 'fritas' refers to the french fries my husband insisted on ordering. (Note: Prices may have slightly increased since this visit.)
Also, be aware that 'pan' (bread) at the top of the receipt, while seemingly complimentary, typically incurs a small charge per person (usually ~$3-5). If you don't want it, simply let your server know, and they will remove it.

After a bottle of wine and all that incredible food, I was certainly feeling flushed! Haha!
If you're looking for an amazing steak experience in Madrid, I wholeheartedly recommend La Cabaña. While I visited for lunch due to time constraints, the ambiance is perfect for enjoying wine and a leisurely dinner. I suggest making an evening reservation to truly savor the experience.
May your Spanish travels be filled with delicious food and wonderful memories! :)
Buen Viaje!
Yes, reservations are essential at La Cabaña. It's especially difficult to visit without a reservation during dinner hours, and even during lunchtime, it's almost always full. You can make a reservation on the lacabanaargentina.myrestoo.net website.
La Cabaña Argentina is located at C. de Ventura de la Vega, 9, y 10. It's on a side street, not a main road, so you might wonder if you're in the right place. Just enjoy exploring the alleyways as you make your way there.
Yukshikman highly recommended 'Mollejas,' a beef pancreas cut that is difficult to taste in Korea. In addition, there's also the 'Parrillada de Carne,' a mixed grilled platter for two that includes Argentine sausage, sirloin, and ribs.
Yes, the bread (pan) served automatically at the restaurant incurs a per-person charge. If you don't want the bread, you can tell the staff you don't need it, and they will take it away.
