This Open Kitchen was a spot
I absolutely wanted to visit
from the very moment I started planning my Ljubljana trip.
Unfortunately,
due to overlapping public holidays and rainy days,
I was only able to visit once during my month-long stay.
But even so, it was a place where I could fully feel
the vibrant, lively, and joyful energy
of otherwise quiet Ljubljana.

Through their website,
you can check the Open Kitchen dates
and the list of participating restaurants
well in advance.
2. What is Open Kitchen?

The Open Kitchen is
Slovenia's premier culinary project,
which first launched back in 2013.

It's a brilliant outdoor restaurant concept
where top chefs from famous restaurants, farms, and pubs
all across Slovenia gather in one spot
to showcase their unique signature dishes.

From traditional Slovenian delicacies
to Asian, Middle Eastern, and American-style fusion fare,
dozens of stalls are set up so you can
mix, match, and enjoy whatever cravings strike.

There's even a Korean stall
called "Ogam"!
It was incredibly popular, with a constant line
of eager foodies waiting to order.
3. Looking Around the Open Kitchen

The moment you step into the square,
you'll see dozens of stalls lined up under white canopies,
with heavenly cooking aromas
wafting from every single direction.
I noticed so many people
buying a variety of small plates to share.

You can taste traditional Slovenian delicacies
like the famous Kranjska klobasa (Carniolan sausage),
as well as creative, high-end restaurant dishes
at incredibly reasonable prices.
The absolute best part is that
you can enjoy Asian, Middle Eastern, and American flavors
all in one single spot!

There is also a wide variety of drink booths,
offering local craft beers, Slovenian wines,
and fresh-squeezed juices,
along with mouthwatering desserts
like gelato and cakes.
It's the perfect way to wrap up
your meal on a sweet note.

To make things even better, Ljubljana Open Kitchen
is a highly eco-conscious, sustainable festival.
They use 100% biodegradable tableware
and strictly manage their recycling system
to protect our beautiful planet.
4. Tips for Your Visit

✅ Always Check the Weather
Since this is an outdoor event,
it will be canceled if it rains.
It also does not run on public holidays.
Make sure to check their official website
to confirm they are operating before heading out!

✅ Avoid Peak Hours
It gets incredibly crowded
during lunchtime and right after work hours.
We visited around 4:00 PM,
and it was already buzzing with people!
Luckily, the lines to order weren't too long yet.

✅ Payment Options
While most booths accept cards,
there might be a few spots that only take cash.
It's always smart to have a little cash handy.

✅ Finding a Place to Eat
Grabbing a standing table around the square
or sitting along the scenic riverbank
to enjoy your food
is one of the best ways to experience the Open Kitchen vibe.
5. Wrapping Up

Ljubljana Open Kitchen is
so much more than just a place to grab food.
With its lively music and
incredible array of mouthwatering dishes,
I hope you get to experience the true charm of Slovenia here!
