Livraria Lello - The Most Beautiful Bookstore in the World

When you land on the Livraria Lello homepage, you'll be greeted by a bold red banner.
To start, click on the €8 (~$9 USD) Ticket Voucher option, which is the standard entry ticket.

There are currently three ticket tiers available:
Standard Ticket: €8 (~$9 USD)
Gold Ticket: €15.95 (~$18 USD)
Platinum Ticket: €50 (~$55 USD)
For most travelers, the standard €8 (~$9 USD) ticket is more than enough to experience the magic of the bookstore!

Once you select the standard ticket, choose the number of guests. For this trip, we booked for two adults.

Review your cart and click the black button at the bottom to proceed to the next step.

Next, select your desired date and time slot. Many blogs recommend booking the earliest slot at 9:00 AM.
However, having been there, you don't necessarily need to "open run" to enjoy it. Unless you're absolutely determined to get a crowd-free photo, just pick whatever time fits best into your Porto itinerary!

You don't need to create an account to purchase. Simply choose "Continue as Guest."

Fill in your name, email address, phone number, and country, then click next.

The first checkbox is optional, but make sure to check the second one (terms and conditions) before clicking next.

Select your payment method. For international credit cards, Visa or Mastercard works perfectly.

Double-check your details on the summary page to ensure everything is correct.

Once payment is complete, your tickets will be sent to your email. Be sure to verify that you've received the confirmation email before heading out on your trip!

Livraria Lello is easily one of Porto's most iconic and must-visit landmarks.
👉 Opening Hours:
09:00 AM - 07:30 PM
*Closed on December 25th, January 1st, Easter Sunday, May 1st, and June 24th.

We arrived just in time for our pre-booked slot.

Even though we arrived about 5 minutes before our 9:00 AM entry, there was already a pretty long queue forming.

Staff at the door scan QR codes as visitors enter. Here's a crucial tip: we realized that while we received a payment confirmation email, the separate email containing the actual QR code ticket never arrived!
Luckily, the staff were incredibly helpful. After we explained the situation and showed them our payment receipt, they looked up our transaction code and let us in without any hassle. (Shoutout to the wonderful staff!)
Pro-Tip: Make sure you locate the actual QR code email before joining the line!

The view as soon as you step inside is absolutely breathtaking. I've never seen a bookstore quite like this!
The main reason the line moves a bit slowly is because everyone pauses at the base of the iconic staircase to snap photos.

Flanking the central staircase are floor-to-ceiling shelves packed with a diverse collection of books.

The ceiling detail is mesmerizing. It looks like intricately carved wood, but it's actually masterfully painted plaster. The level of detail makes you feel like you've stepped straight into Hogwarts!

One of the best perks of visiting is that your ticket voucher price (€8 / ~$9 USD) can be deducted from any book purchase!
Because of this, many visitors pick up classics like The Little Prince or Harry Potter as a souvenir. They have a dedicated section for English books alongside the Portuguese editions.

There's even a special room dedicated entirely to The Little Prince collections. I was so tempted to buy an English edition, but decided against it to keep my luggage light for the rest of our journey.

After exploring the ground floor, head up to the second level. Looking down from above gives you a whole new perspective of the bookstore's unique, flowing architecture.

Don't forget to look up and admire the beautiful stained glass ceiling—it's absolutely stunning.

Since everyone wants a photo here, it's all about timing. Just wait for a brief lull in the crowd and snap away!

Looking at the winding red staircase from different angles, you can easily see why it's rumored to have inspired J.K. Rowling's moving staircases in Harry Potter. The fluid curves and bold crimson color are truly surreal.
