Knowing that people enjoy snacks and drinks while watching the sunset at Jardim do Morro, we pondered what to bring.

Since the garden was so close to our accommodation, we simply picked up whatever we fancied during our grocery run.

We grabbed some bottled beer from the supermarket, heated up a frozen pizza in the oven, and carried it over to Jardim do Morro – plate and all! (Being so close to our Airbnb was a huge plus!) Once we arrived, we found an empty spot and took in the surroundings.

The date of our visit was December 2026, so as it was winter, everyone's attire was quite varied.

The evening breeze can be quite chilly, so I highly recommend dressing warmly. I wore a long-sleeved top and a light puffer jacket, but even then, sitting still for a while, I felt a bit of a nip in the air.

Even before the sun began to set, many people had already arrived to soak in the views.

The tiered, staircase-like seating arrangements at Jardim do Morro make it easy for everyone to enjoy unobstructed views of Porto's stunning sunset and captivating nightscape.

From our seats in Jardim do Morro, we gazed out at Porto.

The Douro River, flanked by charming houses and buildings, creates an absolutely picturesque scene.

Before the sunset truly began, the red-tiled roofs of Porto's homes looked particularly beautiful.

The weather was a bit cloudy that day, but despite the overcast sky, it was still incredibly lovely.

From every angle, Jardim do Morro, Porto's premier sunset and night view spot, was simply stunning.

The clouds might have hidden some of the vibrant colors of the sunset, which was a little disappointing, but it was still there, peeking through!

With such a magnificent backdrop, we enjoyed our beer to the fullest.

Sipping on Super Bock, Porto's iconic beer, we savored the panoramic views of the city.

Pairing it with pizza, we indulged in the true "pizza and beer" experience, and let me tell you, Porto's frozen pizza was surprisingly delicious! (Not only was it affordable, but it tasted great too.)

As we enjoyed our pizza and beer, the sun gradually dipped below the horizon, and one by one, the lights of Porto began to flicker on.

With the lights illuminating before complete darkness set in, Porto took on a stunning deep blue hue that was truly captivating.

The string of lights along the Douro River, coupled with the brightly lit buildings, created a harmonious and magical scene.

Wanting to leave a little mark of our visit, we even took a fun photo of our feet. (A little "we were here!" moment.)

Looking to the side from our spot in Jardim do Morro, you can see the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge and the Serra do Pilar viewpoint.

You can watch the tram pass over the bridge, and for an even higher vantage point, you can head up to the viewpoint for more incredible night views.

I'm still curious about the little partitioned sections next to the viewpoint building – they look like they might have seating, making me wonder if visitors can enter them.

As we simply sat and let time pass, the night grew darker, revealing an even more stunning Porto. It's truly amazing how beautiful the city becomes after dark!

Even the reflections of the lights on the darkened Douro River were absolutely gorgeous.

We stood up from our seats and tried taking photos closer to the wall, but the buildings obstructed too much of the view. (It definitely looks better from a distance!)

Nevertheless, watching the boats float on the Douro River, the line of bars and restaurants along the banks, and the people enjoying themselves there was pure bliss.

Just sitting there, lost in thought, taking it all in, I truly felt what happiness was.

While Porto always looks beautiful, I personally highly recommend the evening hours when the city is bathed in that enchanting blue darkness!
