Planning a trip to Lisbon? Have you heard about the Lisboa Card yet?
I debated whether to buy it until the very last minute,
but in the end, even with just a 24-hour pass,
I found it to be incredibly cost-effective after my trip!
I'm excited to share all the places you can visit with the Lisboa Card,
where to pick it up in the city, and a table I put together myself showing just how much you can save! :)

1. Where to Use Your Lisboa Card
With just one card, you get free public transportation around the city,
and even free train rides to Sintra, a popular nearby destination!
And guess what? You can even hop on the famous Tram 28,
that iconic yellow tram synonymous with Portugal!
You can get free entry to 51 museums and attractions,
and even enjoy priority access at some tourist spots!
Many places offer free entry, like São Jorge Castle, Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower,
Santa Justa Lift, and Augusta Arch Viewpoint!
For palaces in Sintra or Lisbon Cathedral, you can get discounted entry, making them much more affordable.
It's kind of like the Paris Museum Pass, wouldn't you say?
However, when I visited, some facilities were under construction and unavailable,
so it's a good idea to double-check their status before your visit :)

I recommend either the 24-hour or 48-hour pass.
If you're planning a self-guided trip to Sintra, I recommend the 48-hour pass,
but if you're only exploring Lisbon's city center, 24 hours is plenty!
It's not 24 hours from when you purchase and exchange the card,
but rather 24 hours from your very first visit to an attraction!
So, it's a great idea to plan your schedule strategically to maximize your benefits :)
3. Exchange Locations in Lisbon City Center
While exchanging your pass at Lisbon Airport might seem like the easiest option,
let's be honest, you're usually a bit overwhelmed after collecting your luggage, right?
Turns out there are quite a few convenient exchange points right in the city center!
Search for Ask me Lisboa on Google Maps,
check their opening hours, then simply visit and show your pre-purchased QR code
to exchange it – super easy!
There's also a location at Rossio Station, which is super convenient for heading to Sintra...
However, it seemed to be closed or no longer operating when I visited in April.
So, I headed to another spot just a 4-minute walk from the station.
It opened promptly at 9 AM,
so I was able to exchange my pass right away and hop on the train.
A crucial tip: Always double-check their opening hours and holiday schedules before you go to exchange your pass!
If your Lisbon travel plans coincide with a holiday, you absolutely
*must* exchange your pass at the airport beforehand!!

4. An Efficient Itinerary Using the Lisboa Card
My itinerary was 3 days and 2 nights, with an evening arrival on the first day,
and airport transfer scheduled after lunch on the last day,
so I opted for the 24-hour pass.
Excluding the Belém district, most of Lisbon's must-see attractions are clustered in the Baixa area,
making getting around a breeze!
Even if you only visit the Jerónimos Monastery and rely on public transport,
the Lisboa Card will easily pay for itself, offering incredible value!
But if you're a fan of breathtaking panoramic views,
I highly recommend adding São Jorge Castle and the Augusta Arch Viewpoint to your list!
Day 1 Evening: 24 hours start after your self-guided Sintra trip
Day 1 Itinerary
Sintra > Rossio Station (transport): 5.1 Euros
São Jorge Castle Viewpoint: 10 Euros
Day 2 Itinerary
Jerónimos Monastery: 22.9 Euros
Belém Tower: 17.9 Euros (Currently under renovation, so I couldn't go inside/see it properly)
Santa Justa Lift: 6 Euros (Currently under renovation)
Augusta Arch Viewpoint: 5 Euros
Even if you only use it like this, excluding the two places under construction,
and adding transportation costs, it would be 45 euros + more,
but you can use it for 31 euros, which means a saving of over 14 euros!
That's a difference of over ~$17 at the current exchange rate!
Honestly, I didn't have much time, so out of all the attractions I could visit,
I only managed to see a few due to construction and my schedule.
But even then, I realized I would have lost out if I hadn't bought this card.
I'd heard people say Lisbon wasn't that special, so I went without many expectations.
But the atmosphere of the yellow trams alone was absolutely beautiful,
and all the nearby attractions, like Sintra, which is perfect for a day trip,
were so wonderful that I want to come back for a longer visit!
Especially since the Lisboa Card offers such great value,
if you plan on doing a lot of exploring, I definitely recommend getting one! 😉
