Your December Lisbon Adventure:
Exploring the City's Sweet Side
Cafe A Brasileira
Amorino Gelato - A Must-Try!
Lisbon in December offers surprisingly mild and pleasant weather, with average temperatures hovering around 59°F (15°C). This makes it absolutely perfect for enjoying desserts at outdoor terraces and strolling through the charming streets.
As you explore the city, you'll want to take a break at these two fantastic spots: a historic cafe and a visually stunning gelato shop!

📍 Amorino Gelato - Lisboa Garrett

Looking back at photos from wandering through Lisbon's city center always brings a wave of nostalgia.

One thing that truly stood out about Lisbon's city center was its unique sidewalks, mostly paved with beautifully arranged stones. They felt both exotic and remarkably clean.
The buildings aren't excessively tall, which creates an open, uncluttered feeling throughout the city.

As you stroll through Lisbon in December, you'll see shops everywhere embracing the festive Christmas spirit.
From grand Christmas trees to charming wreaths and countless decorative items, the city truly comes alive with holiday cheer.

The architecture itself was fascinating, offering a quintessential European streetscape that was a joy to behold.
During my casual strolls through Lisbon, I stumbled upon some amazing dessert spots, and I'm excited to share two of my favorites!
A Century of History: Cafe A Brasileira
As you wander through the Baixa district, you'll eventually spot the historic A Brasileira cafe, often greeted by the statue of Portugal's renowned poet, Fernando Pessoa, seated outside.

Opened in 1905, this iconic spot is famous for its opulent Art Nouveau interior.

I didn't specifically plan to visit this cafe; I simply discovered it while exploring, drawn in by the lively crowd.
The ambiance of enjoying a coffee on the outdoor terrace, watching the romantic Lisbon trams and people pass by, was simply irresistible. I immediately found a seat! 🤣

I can't recall the exact name of my drink, and as I'm not a regular coffee drinker, I can't really comment on its taste. 😅
However, for coffee aficionados, a tip: A Brasileira's recommended specialties are Bica (espresso) and Galão (milk coffee)!
The Rose-Petal Gelato Experience: Amorino

After all that walking around the city, you might find yourself craving something sweet and refreshing. That's when Amorino is the perfect stop!
Like A Brasileira, I simply stumbled upon this place in Lisbon's city center. The inviting exterior and the happy buzz of people inside drew me in.

It turns out Amorino is a hugely popular gelato chain with locations all over the world!
They offer an incredible variety of flavors, so you'll be spoiled for choice.

So many delicious gelatos, it's hard to capture them all in one photo!

After browsing all the flavors, I opted for some refreshing choices like passion fruit. You can pick as many flavors as you like!
I ordered one cone and one cup. The cone came with a beautiful rose crafted from gelato!

No matter which flavors you choose, the staff expertly sculpts the gelato onto your cone, creating a stunning rose shape with a spatula. It's so pretty, I had to take a picture immediately!

Every single flavor I picked was absolutely delicious; I'd go back for this gelato in a heartbeat! 👍👍
If you're looking for the best gelato in Lisbon, this is my top recommendation!
And if you're worried about cold treats in winter, Amorino also offers warm desserts like waffles or crepes topped with gelato – a perfect hot and cold combination.
My December trip to Lisbon was unforgettable, and I still fondly remember sipping coffee on A Brasileira's outdoor terrace, enjoying the cool breeze, and getting a delightful sugar rush from Amorino's rose-shaped gelato.
If you're planning a winter trip to Lisbon, don't worry about the cold – it's quite mild! Make sure to soak in the outdoor terrace vibes and treat yourself to these beautiful desserts when the sun is out. 👏
