The timer doesn't start when you pick up the card;
it begins the very first time you tap it to use a service!
Because of this, timing your activation
dictates how much you can actually fit into your schedule.

Key Free Benefits of the Lisboa Card ✔ Unlimited public transit ✔ Free entry to Jerónimos Monastery ✔ Free rides on Tram 28 ✔ Free access to Santa Justa Lift ✔ Free entry to São Jorge Castle ✔ Free entry to major viewpoints |
There are plenty more perks, but even if you just hit
these spots, the card easily pays for itself!
You'll especially find yourself using the free transit constantly.

When you purchase the card, you'll be given pick-up instructions.
There are about 5 locations scattered around downtown Lisbon,
but we picked ours up right by the main tourist hub.
Be sure to check Google Maps and verify
the operating hours of your chosen pick-up spot.

Strategic 24-Hour Itinerary
The ultimate value-packed route

The secret hack to the Lisboa Card is activation timing.
If you start it first thing in the morning, your schedule gets weird,
and it ends up feeling more like a half-day pass.
To maximize it, activate the card around 4:00 or 5:00 PM.
v Day 1 Evening: Viewpoints + Tram ride
v Day 2 Morning to Afternoon: Full sightseeing blitz
By splitting it this way, you essentially get
two days of benefits out of a single 24-hour pass.
My Tried-and-True Route
Here is exactly how I did it.

Here is a breakdown of how I utilized the card
for the 24 hours after activation.
My 24-Hour Lisboa Card Itinerary Day 1 16:00 Pick up the card 16:30 Activate card & ride Tram 28 17:15 Explore Lisbon Cathedral (Free) 17:40 Free entry to São Jorge Castle (Free) *Use as a transit pass for the rest of the evening Day 2 09:00 Jerónimos Monastery (Free) *Usually costs ~€15 without the card 12:00 Monument to the Discoveries (Free) 13:00 Belém Tower (Free) - explore the surroundings 15:00 Ride the Funicular (Free) - great photo op! 15:20 Ride the Santa Justa Lift 16:00 Head to the final viewpoint (Wrap up at Miradouro de Santa Luzia or Graça) |
On Day 2, I hopped on and off buses and trams
more times than I could count.
If you follow this exact route, everything listed
is fully covered by the Lisboa Card with zero extra fees.
Talk about getting your money's worth, right?
📌 Important Note for 2026
The Belém Tower is currently undergoing renovations
and is closed for approximately a year.
As of 2026, it's difficult to use the interior access benefit,
so I recommend just admiring the exterior when you visit the monastery.
If the renovations are finished when you visit, definitely go inside!

If you're feeling overwhelmed and don't know where to start,
just copy and paste this itinerary.
You'll hit 2 viewpoints, the monastery, the castle,
the iconic lift, and the funicular.
You'll easily extract double the value of what you paid for the card,
so take a screenshot or save this page for your trip.

I honestly felt like the Lisboa Card was my best purchase.
Because transit is completely free, I took the tram for even short distances,
rode the funicular multiple times,
and always took the bus back to the hotel.
It genuinely pays for itself.
The 48-hour pass is a bit steep and slightly less cost-effective,
but the 24-hour pass is highly recommended!

If I had bought individual tickets for all these spots,
the wait times would have been brutal, and it would have cost a fortune.
Thanks to the Lisboa Card, I had an incredibly fulfilling trip.
If you're heading to Lisbon,
don't hesitate—just buy it.
I've provided a promo code, so be sure to use it
to save some extra cash while booking!
